Genuinely really proud of Doug for being this transparent about how he wants to run his stream, I think these shifts should all have a positive impact
Yass queen
i hope the change in how the tts is going doesn’t mean broculuigi is going away. he’s honestly what i associate with the text to speech the most.
I think one thing that affected how chat behaved regarding TTS is that the yt videos only show the funny hahaha TTS, so if they are only yt watchers that is the expectation of a DougDoug stream.

Hey DougDougDougDoug, I'm sure you were happy about the shoutout from DougDoug at 7:11

Totally respect the choice and that you've come up with a plan to tackle this. You're one in a million if you can look at a situation and say "This isn't going in a direction I enjoy. I need to do something about it." instead of letting it grow in to a bigger problem.
I've been watching you on youtube for a while and, while I would love to be able to catch your streams more, I would much rather you enjoy what you're doing as that ultimately leads to you putting in your best. Thanks for giving us a try, Doug!
Side note: If you have the message be the response from a Chat GPT prompt, you should give it a unique voice.
37:43 Don't worry Doug, I'm pretty sure the VOD audience and the main channel audience, while being on the same platform, is pretty different.
As others mentioned, the main channel audience is mostly just seeing rapid fire TTS and joke after joke, while here on the VOD channel we see all of the coding adventures, unfunny TTS messages, and every down time in-between.
Most of us probably would watch your streams live, but you know, time zones, obligations, family, etc., all factor in to if someone is able to watch live or not.
(I personally just like the convenience of being able to pause, haha)
At least that's how I like to view the situation.
Hey you, random person in the comments, you better not be here to skip to the funny parts! You're gonna watch this whole VOD and YOU'RE GONNA LIKE IT!
I'm gonna watch the whole VOD and I'M GONNA HATE IT!!!!!
As someone who watches both, can confirm I would catch his streams if I wasn't busy most of the time. I like watching his videos when I don't have a lot of time (because they're shorter) and the vods as things to listen to while doing coding/art.
As much as I want to scream RIGGED at Doug for his persecution of RUclips Chat, he absolutely does have a point. There comes a point when old recycled memes and the sheer stupidity gets a bit stale. Not to say I don't find it funny, of course. It's definitely difficult to balance the well-loved community memes with staying engaging and fresh, but good to see he recognises that.
Born a twitch watcher forced to be a youtube vod watcher. Late gang. Dougdoug hates europeans.
In all seriousness tho i love these streams where doug just talks about stuff. Its great that he has a platform where he can be true and open
Vod chat lore. Vod lore. Vore. You’re welcome 🤝
why…
and that's enough internet for me today
Thanks

Surpirsed Doug remembered that RUclips chat lives in the attic
If twitch is in the basement and youtube is in the attic, i think discord is in the shed and vod watchers are just the stalker neighbors
@@Pixelusually doug has mentioned we vod watchers live in his sink I think
@@paulomatute4114 where do discord people live, his walls?
17:10 the entirety of chat self-reporting that they're little kids is hilarious
I bet that’s actually sorta true. I highly doubt that the entirety of twitch chat is not 13. Like come on.
I also want to let them know that they were a kid once too. I’d like them to think how they would react.
I was twice a drive-by TTSer. Both times I immediately hated myself.
Not automatically knowing when streams are happening is sad, but honestly it's for the best. If your audience can't handle long-form interaction, they shouldn't be in the streams.
Save the Peppa pigs and make them auction items for the next Rosa birthday stream.
Eggcellent idea
I feel like a mix of the TTS solutions are probably best. Making sure everything is clear and communicated is definitely the most import part. This was two weeks ago, so I'm sure it's already been completed and tested in chat already, but yeah!
1) Have the option to mute/unmute as needed all messages AND pause/unpause (depending on the stream, it may be preferred to hear all messages out loud). Make sure if TTS is muted or paused, the appropriate icon is on screen. Skipping messages is also a good feature
2) Additionally, having a mod screen the messages and put them into three categories is the best idea in my mind. Some messages (hog cranking) can be outright removed and nothing is lost. Others that aren't really funny or relevant can appear as text only (potentially for a briefer amount of time, or a separate section, or whatever) at the mod's discretion (and could even encourage a channel meme of appeasing the fickle god of TTS). And then most are allowed through TTS. If you are worried about the mod filtering out something that may be good, have a section dedicated to the rejected messages. Never read out loud, always relegated to where YT chat once was. Could even have chat involvement of occasional chat participation of polls as to whether they actually were bad or not (some are obvious, others are not).
3) Saying how far behind the queue is (including a timestamp on all messages, showing how many messages are in queue, whatever) would also help immensely. Encourage people to not send message that are time sensitive and more importantly removes any incentive for people to have TTS messages that are just, "This message was sent at 5 pm GMT". Those messages really don't add anything and only further delay the stream.
4a) Encourage sub messages in some way (bump in queue, messages guaranteed after a number of months (not necessarily out loud, but at least on screen), sub exclusive TTS channel point rewards) is worth trying out.
4b) I also do like the idea that some senders are considered VIPs. Pepsiman, Tetra, Soviet, etc. Could even have a special alert, completely bypass the queue, something. Would be funny to see one of his friends just abuse that system to send some meme out from time to time.
4c) TTS license with channel points before you're allowed to donate?
4d) TTS speed button?
4e) TTS queue cap? Could just say FULL onscreen if at/above 10
5) Misc ideas mentioned during the stream I like as temporary, one off, etc
Word of the day as an IQ test (or math problem)
Self designating a message as relevant or non relevant (would never work, but it's certainly an interesting social experiment)
Only have a 25% chance of a message reading (Roll a d20, must be a 15 or higher). Nat 1 is a ban. Perhaps would be a good idea for channel point TTS to prevent channel points from being _too_ valuable. If you're not even guaranteed to get your message read, the reward isn't as valuable.
Emotions (including Geraint)
You have to win a game against ChatGPT or next chatter to get your message read
Your message gets Google Translated multiple times
Ask chatGPT to write the donation message for you
Approved by Twitch chat, only. First time, they vote. No means you're banned. Yes means you're whitelisted for the stream.
Automatically send unfunny messages to PointCrow (donate the money donated to Doug to PCrow with the bad message)
Reward good TTS? One gift sub per funny one at the end of stream?
I LOVE your ideas at the end even just for a test stream this would be fun to see
I really hope this works. Doug is an inspiration to me because even when something not good happens he makes it funny and give it a twist to make it better somehow
To be honest, being a part of the dark forest stream was the most fun stream I've ever been in. I'm loving this new direction
37:44 HE HATES US
the coding segments itself feels like main channel videos with a story, little goofs and distractions, built up jokes, and a very clear line of progress to anchor it on.
Genuinely the can chat beat 1 level before I beat the whole game was such a fun stream and video for that reason
It sounds like DougDoug is being proactive and protecting himself from burnout which is such a great idea. It's a different situation but with my mental health I try to do the same when it comes to things like my hobbies. I realized I was putting too much pressure on myself when it came to my hobbies and it was causing me to lose interest in them. Now I check in with myself to make sure my hobbies are still sparking joy and not becoming a source of stress. Read the silly romance book if thats what you want to read and don't feel bad about not picking up the lauded 800 page plus fantasy book. Or play the same favorite videogame again instead of the new one everyone is talking about if thats what you want.
41:50 "Did he teach you to code with a belt" genuinely laughed at loud at that
Dev-Discord Hackaton idea:
1. Break the discord link for dev helpers into 3
2. Use 3 simple cryptography algos and give hints for what they are in a system similar to that "chat follows x rule or gets banned" so non-devs participate trying to guess what is the algorithm
3. You can only give hints using quotes from actual Peppa Pig episodes, to honor the new members of the Doug House.
4. Profit.
Real talk for a sec tho, I’m glad Doug is working on prioritizing his health and taking time to do mental health stuff. Hope he finds a med or med-less situation that works for his brain
DouglasDouglasDouglasDouglas seems to forget that he *is* the specimen that we love watching intently
I feel like a lot of the chaos that you describe, comes from the rivalry between twitch chat and youtube chat, where then people from youtube and twitch will "invade" each other's chats. Also, it brings a lot of toxicity and spam between twitch chat and youtube chat. I definitely feel that twitch chat are also a part of the problem there
Twitch chat? A problem? No way
It sucks to know at least for the time being that RUclips streams are done as its the kind of thing I could listen/watch while doing tedious tasks at work. But I also understand why you're doing it.
Hopefully this semi-open discussion with the community will help improve it and we can go back to streaming on both. For now Ill continue to listen to the old vods!
But if he never actually interacted with youtube chat, then how is watching the vod any different?
@@snally6111not having to wait however long it takes for the vod to be posted
Honestly I don't really interact with streams it's more of a background thing while doing something else, but the RUclips player is way more convenient for me to use than twitch's so I'll probably wait for the vods
Hey Doug! Not sure if you'll see this but I personally prefer watching streams on RUclips, and being able to watch-along live (and having twitch chat up in a different app) still means I get the best of both!
I will patiently await to see if there's a stream happening after two weeks!
Honestly, I think Doug just enjoys banning people because he likes it when chat runs a little slower.
As he said, he enjoys being able to have a back and forth with his chat, and when its at 10k+ people its incredibly difficult to do that... Ban a few thousand people and chat speed goes way down.
Hey Doug, the Lexapro sleep disturbances do improve over time. I used have it rough with that but it's all good now, hope you find something that works
I never really comment on anything, and that’s why I use RUclips instead of Twitch. Most people I know that use RUclips to watch streams and so on, don’t comment anything either (aged between 26-31). But they’re just enjoying the content for themselves, or just to have something to listen to. That, and also the people who join the chat who’s only watches the main channel videos don’t think about the “downtime” in a 5-10 hour stream, because they just see the 20 min cutdown version. I think that is why they come in and expect the same nonstop energy as the videos.
That said I think it is a great decision if it helps him in any way. But I hope he finds a way to stream on RUclips again. Twitch has way too many ads and in general too many “engage with the stream!”-things going on for me. I just want to watch the stream.
Wow, this live was really fun. good April 1st joke man, it's a shame that starting tomorrow we return to the usual
If you like to organize your Notes and ideas I recommend you Obsidian. You can write notes in simple markdown, link them, do todo lists and much more. Just because you make Notes in simple textform anyway like I do personally.
26:37 oh my god I feel ancient
I also don't watch exclusively on one platform, so maybe I'm a majestic unicorn outlier
I had this on the second monitor as background while working. There was a sudden silence and I looked over to see if the video was buffering or something and just saw this 1:00:02 . Didn't expect this to be a horror stream..

Hey dude. Rust is a wonderful game for quick and creative modding. C# / unity, could even import your own custom models into the server. Could be a rad convergence of players and code.

I dont think adding an already established platform, that has had set regulations is the issue. You started on a platform that's called "twitch" and regulations that it had to figure it out, and punished those that fell outside it newly devoloped lines..
To say you have to take therapy is in itself a big enough problem. Take a vacation, dude! You deserve it. People are here to watch you.. not the other way around.
