    Hi Bailey, I majored in oil painting at uni and I know you said you dont usually use solvents but I notice you dont have proper ventiliaton in your room! You can have a look at some information online but I'd suggest windows open and fans or vents - especially if you are leaning over your painting like in a skethchbook. Another thing you can do is put the sketchbook in another room near window to dry instead of leaving it in the same room you are in all the time. Sorry for the unsolicited advice but just want to make sure you are looking after your health

    Hi, if you want to prevent a spread in your sketchbook to stick together, you can just add a protective sheet, like war paper before closing your sketchbook, that works for me, I usually tape the waxpaper down on the other sie with washi tape, that way, the wax paper does not fall off, when I turn the page, love your work ^^

    If you want a solvent free method for faster drying of your oil paints, try mixing powdered chalk with linseed oil, it will make a putty that will absorb the oil in the paint so it dries faster! Using it I've had oils dry in a day or two once I learned the proper ratio! (2 parts chalk mix to 1 part paint) and it doesn't distort the color at all!

    • @Noelh96

      Also when making the putty try 2 parts chalk to 1 part oil, it should make a thick mix that ribbons when you pick some of it up

    Hullo Baylee! I have had nasty brushes and I have found that floating them in solvent loosens the glue in the ferrule and hairs start falling out when you start using them! You can use MASTERS Brush cleaner Soap, wash the brushes as best as you can, coat the bristles with the cleaner and goop it on thick! Then set the brush out on a towel flat, wait hours or days, then wash again and depending on how thick and gunky they were, you might need to do it again and the soap cleans and conditions! If you paint with oils paint on paper if you do not use gesso or use an oil paper (Arches sell some) Oil paint will "eat" paper! you might need to gesso both sides! Well if you want it to last more than a few months! Double coat the front side for sure! I enjoy this kind of content from you! Wonderful portrait painting!! I hope you keep going and work those "sketchbooks"!

    Oh Survivor season 1 was something else! You’re going to love it. I remember we had a company meeting, and there was a scavenger hunt after. Everyone rushed thru it to get home to watch Survivor. The one huge thing about season 1 was it was the first time networks realized that they could get huge audiences airing new programming in the summer. As a chemist seeing a bunch of jar of hazardous liquids unlabeled, seeing you using a cooking utensils to funnel the galkyd without gloves was very upsetting ....
    PLEASE ! PLEASE label your jars. And please never use again that funnel in your kitchen.
    I hope that you did not rinse it in the sink...
    I would recommend wiping it with a coton saturated with acetone first (while wearing latex gloves). A couple time. Let the solvent evaporate out of reach of your cats (like windowsill ) . Wipe a second time with a cotton saturated with water
    Then you can rinse it under the sink.
    But even after that don't use it for cooking. Plastic are kinda porous materials....

    • @Lexouchan

      @@MariaRevArt
      Water soluble oils are solvent free.
      But normal oils can't be as you need solvent to thin regular oil and wash your brushes. Yes Gamsol is a solvent. Probably less harmful than turpentine but still a solvent (just the same way acetone or 99% isopropyl alcohol are solvents).
      The main danger being irritation if in contact with skin and the flammability of the vapors.
      And the fact that you can't wash oil paint from your hands with water .. so you would need to use solvents ... Yeah.
      That jar she has with solvent soaked rags? Flamming hazard that would be 100% forbidden in a lab.

    • @MariaRevArt
      @MariaRevArt 2 года назад +1

      @@Lexouchan You do NOT need to use Gamsol to thin your paint. You can just use oil or a solvent-free medium of which there are quite a few. And I am aware that Gamsol is a solvent. Also, traditional oils do not contain solvents. Solvent may or may not be used to paint with or clean your brushes. You can use oil instead.
      Also, you can wash oil paint from your hands with soap and water.
      As for her jar of rags, I agree that they were improperly stored, but that's likely due to lack of awareness on how to safely manage them. There are 100% ways to use oils safely, even if those ways were not presented in the video.

    • @Lexouchan
      @Lexouchan 2 года назад +2

      @@MariaRevArt
      Yeah I knew that they are solvent free medium (like oils for example).
      Is there is a solvent free thinner ?
      I guess it's not a necessary part to oil paint but I always heard about underpainting and lean to fat rules that does requires thinning the paint and so solvent.
      Didn't know about solvent free ways to clean oil paint from brushes though so thank you for that.
      And yeah there is safer ways that what she does to paint, and while I agree that you can paint safely with oils it is a technique that can be hazardous and I wish there were more informations out there. Like pamphlets provided when you buy turpentine or stuffs
      Or like in pharmacies where when you buy a medicine they give you a speech about dosage and when and how to take it.
      Like vendors in art shop shoul be like "you should do this not that work in a well ventilated area" etc

    Hi Baylee! I’m looking for a house in the US - is the Canadian house market as crazy as the US? Offers over 50-100k the asking price, 21 offers on an average house - It’s nuts!!

      I will bring it back someday, but it's taking a break since it took a long time for my latest batch to sell out.

    I missed the part when you said you were going to wash your hands after touching the poison because I was reading comments. Glanced up and saw you eating a triscuit and was like “whaaaa?!”
