It’s referenced in the game that is more than likely was at some point. But I don’t want to go into game spoilers on why I say at some point it was. You’ll just have to play it. Alan’s Typewriter = the Projector is a better equivalent to it and it seems like the FBC haven’t been able to secure it yet. Either way it’s going to be interesting for DLC and Control 2 tie in.

Sam Lake was probably like “Let’s give them all the drafts of this plot regardless if it makes any logical sense” - the whole writing process is full of rewrites, and they probably decided to include them all in instead of cutting it out. There was so many good bits recorded in both the Ashtray Maze and We Sing that never made it to the 'single'. In this version of Herald of Darkness I think the jazzy portion of the song comes to an end way too quickly making it not fit in as well as it would have if it'd had more of what was in the game.

And then you see that it payed off because everyone is just having a blast during the performance, like sure the initial reaction was "This cannot be for real..." but then it's like "Ok that was a ton of fun once I got into it!" you can see the actors are having *Fun* and that's always a wonderful thing to see. :)

The same timeframe question could be asked if The Return of Twin Peaks, especially since the 25 years is mentioned in season one, episode three, in 1990. How much was intentionally, especially around the time of not only working out a deal on a new season but being actually 25 years irl. Like at that point was there a deal then a decision to wait two years to start since why not?
In Alan Wake the 13 years isnt mentioned that I'm aware of. But The Lynch references go beyond Twin Peaks in AW2

just to make it clear if poets of the fall did many musics for remedy games, the old gods of asgard were made up for alan wake as part of the plot "spoilers after this point" it is part of the story being theses creators are being used by the witch of the lake to make things (mostly nightmares) come true out of their creativity.
the only other links that exist actualy are with control, alan wake american nightmare and alan wake 2, there are two songs in alan wake (the poet and the muse and children of the elder god) one in alan wake american nightmare (balance slays the demon) one in control (take control) and one in alan wake 2 (herald of darkness)
all together they do write out parts of the story of this conex univers being, old gods of asgard having powers to make things come true through their music, poet and the muse being the begining of alan wake telling you they are at the origin of him going to the lake with his wife, balance slays the demon his basicaly telling that alan wake can do something to fight the demons from the stories he wrote to find a way out of the story, control is explaining that you need to take control of the power of your imagination to get to the end of things, and finaly herald of darkness being a recap of the situation of alan wake telling you he is being the hero of the light (the torch bearer) the one to destroy the darkness they created as the old gods of asgard planed their escape route from the witches powers by giving alan wake the power to destroy theses demons.
from what i understand from the story alan wake was called by the witch to the lake because the old gods of asgard included him as part of their plan to destroy the witch, leading him to write a story that will ultimately end her but by doing so he woke up the source of her powers being a demon that took alan's face and place in the real world to force him to keep on writing more things and he now has to destroy that demon as he is the champion of light brought here by the old gods of asgard to fight the herald of darkness (the demon that now is the one trapping him in his own stories)
he is not responsible for the darkness despite what we are made to think, but he is the champion of light chosen by the old gods of asgard that saw the potential through his stories knowing that being the writer he is, he would interest the witch, it being a subtil trap because the dark stories he writes should end well but his writing and personal story are similar to thomas zane making him the perfect candidate to being the hero they need to save the creators that are traped under the witches/demon spell.

I don't think the wait between iterations was on purpose, since they had to buy the rights back from Microsoft in 2019. Alan Wake 1 also didn't do well upon release, even though it was critically loved and developed a cult following over time. American Nightmare only really happened because they were working on some stuff for a sequel that wasn't really going to plan and Microsoft demanded something for the work they were putting in. After that, as far as I know, they were encouraged to work on a new IP, which was when they did Quantum Break. They were only really able to return to Alan Wake proper after they split from Microsoft and got the rights to the IP back fully.

Alan Wake kind of was trying to sace his marriage, it wasn't outright said in the first game, but Doctor Hartman had been in contact with Alice Wake by phone, they use a spliced together recording of the conversation where she was talking about her concern for Alan's negative behaviour as a result of his writers block and stress to pretend to have her as a hostage and bait Alan. Coming to Bright Falls was Hartman's idea

As for Zane and Alan it's pretty convoluted but the end of AW implied that Zane wrote himself out of reality except for a box and then the box had the lightswitch. Maybe Pandora's Box? The lightswitch but also a page about the beginning of Wake's life, and the childhood memory of mom getting the lightswitch. So is the lightswitch hope? Or is Alan? There is a heavy suggestion that Zane created Alan and uncreated himself and thus Alan is actually him creating a loophole to get out of the dark place which both works and doesnt work. Also this part of the plot and multiple people both being amd playjng mutlitple versions of themselves written into out of and around it make this thread much more like Inland Empire than Twin Peaks. The whole getting trapped inba reality that others got trapped in before by trying to make the same movie that was initally failedbl at finishing...anyone who's reading this and got this far if you didnt get Inland Empire entirely (as much as it can be) then play AW2 (and maybe the first and Control) and then go back to Inland Empire. There are aspects of AW2 that made me see IE in a brand new light or perspective(s)

The game version of the song is longer and the video is the official band version for RUclips. Watching the RUclips band and Remedy approved version is probably much better for revenue than a recording of a video game playthrough, that would also increase the length of the ntire video by probably 5 to 10 minutes, since the recent video version cuts out about 4 to 5 minutes of the song and even the radio in the writers room version is still slightly shorter than the game playthrough by a small or large margin depending on skill and exploration.
