I'm 66 years old and this song, although from the 90's, has always brought tears to my eyes by bringing back the freedom I felt as a teen in the 70's. Absolutely brilliant!

Written in the '90s, but songwriter/singer Billy Corgin was about 13 in '79, hence the title. I'm between his age and yours. The song, while not in the style of music we listened to back then, still somehow feels like an anthem of that era -- which is a testament to the extraordinary brilliance of Billy Corgin. The only other example I can think of that achieved this, is Frankie Valli's title song for the movie, Grease. "Grease", the song sounds nothing like the music from the late '50s, and yet it magically captures that "greaser" era.

Zipper blues: the depression of someone who is constantly moving from one place to another or not able to stay in one place (as in having to keep zipping up ones jacket because of constant mobility and always having to leave).

Really? Is that why I've always been a nomad my entire life? I feel trapped and I will have to leave. Hard to describe but I always have been curious why I do what I do.

Born in Jan of '78, graduate in '96, I remember very well when this song dropped and I loved the song. At the time when this released and the video aired, it was easy to enjoy and it has a very chill beat, now that I'm older, this song, especially with the video, hits WAY different, yes, it does truly remind me of being a kid, or teen, again and the fun and freedom that i had then. The lyrics to this song couldn't be more on point.

For lack of word to describe this time stopping anthem, I would use melancholy and timeless nostalgia. I think a lot of people, and dare I say most people, are reluctant or afraid of those, and they are such powerful emotions in search of mental health as you said in many ways, songs like this are lifejackets, the light at the end of the tunnel, the perfect sunset companion, the perfect answer to the question you didn´t know, etc...
And to reporpose a legendary one, We are all Childs in Time, the XX century is marked by song in it´s entirety, and totally relatable to the emerging youthfulness of the 90s, time to feel, time to think, time to listen, now....., all kinds of sad that it´s dimming....

This is my favorite band from the grunge era (even though I consider them slightly different/unique from the rest). Their concerts were so so good back in the 90’s. Also, their first album, Gish, was so underrated and one of my all time favorites. Bury Me and Siva are so good but Rhinocerous is my fave from that album. Such a great band

I grew up hearing this band on the radio but thought they were ok. A friend had an extra ticket to the concert and I went about 7 years ago. Never heard Gish on the radio and you are so right. One of my top 5 songs. He perfected that sound overtime and I was blown away with the version they performed. One of the best concerts. I have seen legends like Rush, kiss, Alice cooper, motely crew, ted nugget, Kansas, and many more. It was just as good live.

Ava Adore is their best song if you have the right live version.

Another great song from the era you will enjoy is “You Get What You Give” by Young Radicals.
