    Bahahahaha, man, as someone who was around when the whole "new In Flames sux!" bandwagon started, it's fucking HILARIOUS now seeing people say "THIS IS GREAT! JUST LIKE OLD IN FLAMES, LIKE COME CLARITY" ... The Come Clarity era was precisely what people were complaining about at the time. "Old In Flames" always referred to Lunar Strain through to Colony / Clayman. Personally I've loved like 99% of their songs, and I'm not one to knock other people's taste, but at least get your insults right.

      People were crying about every song, but still kept coming back. Not just this band, but a lot of other bands throughout new releases. Not all of their songs are the greatest, but they're all still good. I'd like to see the "critics" come up with a whole album that's better lol

    • @death_anima
      @death_anima 3 года назад +1

      People are just complaining about the new stuff because they think that the past rules, doesn't matter if in the past they also said that the new stuff sucks and the past rules, that is people who live in what they think is the "golden years".

    • @ghst8397
      @ghst8397 3 года назад

      @@death_anima there were a couple times when their music changed pretty drastically. Lunar strain is kind of an island of its own. That was when Michael Stanne (Dark Tranquility) and Anders couldn't make their minds up about what bands they wanted to be in (and what roles they wanted to have). The Jester Race through Colony, maybe even Clayman, are all fucking rock solid perfection in nearly all aspects. Clayman and Reroute to Remain are the outro to that really heavy melodic (but not black) metal chapter. Soundtrack to your escape took me years to appreciate (I hated it when it first dropped), because this was the complete tipping point. Come clarity was the last album they made that I enjoyed sitting through essentially every song. I'm enough of a fan to sit through their new music and try to find appreciation, but it's just not the same. I think I'll probably always have a soft spot for 1996-2002 and come clarity. Nothing else resonates with me the same way.

      I don't think it's so much about them being different, it's about them dealing with the bullshit criticisms about their sound being "New" or "Not Old". This song gives me heavy MCU Loki vibes. Makes me think about all the things he did, the changes he went through, from selfish villain, henchman to Thanos, adversary to Thor, losing he and Thor's family, to actually growing close to Thor, helping save the Asgardians fleeing from Ragnarok, to ultimately facing down Thanos and meeting his end. Just Passing Through that’d be sick as hell. I miss the “inflames-y” soft parts, think of the intro to SOAPF or Fear is the Weakness, or Square Nothing, or the bridge/solo to Zombie Inc.
      I think the things that made the “inflames-y” sound are mostly lacking these days- like harmonies, the soft parts with that sound, and the duels between Bjorn and Jesper, or just the contrast between super heavy rhythm and cool leads. It still sounds like IF, I just wish theyd bring back some of those elements.

      @Renegate 96 lol, just because In Flames stared incorporating clean vocals into their songs 20 years ago doesn't make them bad. They've made plenty of great songs since 2000. The Jester Race was a great album but you can't possibly expect them to make same music over and over again for 20+ years. Just let it go and get over it.
      "I, the mask" is a nice song and I welcome this sort of content, I won't be salty about spending my money on this.

Do you honestly think these guys were hurting financially when they were making the "good stuff," as you'd put it? Hardly. They didn't change for money. They changed because *THEY* changed. Alt-metal clearly isn't a money making genre, so I agree that they didn't change for the sake of money. The problem is, their recent albums came across as lazy. I think that's the underline issue more so than the stylistic change.
      But, you're right about them not owing the fans anything. It'd just be nice if they had more oomph in their music, stayed true to who they were for a long time.

      @@FrogWalrus You're missing the point. They ARE staying true to what they are. You guys don't want them to change. You want them to sell out to the "old way". You can't evolve from your prime days and overcome it. Evolution is negative in the metal scene. All bands straying away from what they were discovered as is a target of hate. When you're in the game so long you can only stay on one path for so long. Eventually you need to experiment because humans get's older, gains new experiences and perspectives which feeds creation. Love the band for what it was and support whatever they become. It's always the fans shitting on the band and not the band shitting the fans for not having their backs through necessary changes.
    Bands are open minded, fans (especially hardcore) are narrow minded. A problem with having a favorite band. I try not to have favorites so I can be less demanding and more accepting of the new directions taken. Always looking on the bright side. With all that said, nice song and the video is fire.

      Compared to what are generally considered masterpieces of In Flames (Whoracle,Clayman,Colony,Jester Race) the last few albums felt way too off the course (which is melodic death),and to me it was too whiny and soft. This,however,stands VERY close (Imo). Its an amazing song,the album is alright even with the This is our House or whatever the fuck its called. Experimenting is good but I understand those "hardcore fans" for wanting an album similar to the old ones. Hell I wished for that too and I think this is a step in the right direction.

      @@fenrizwolfbroodx5322 I understand the hardcore fans too. I have my prefered albums too. But love is suppose to be unconditional so If I can say I love something I have to accept it's flaws and hope for the best future :) Now I don't love In Flames, I appreciate them. But being an open minded fan of music I try to adopt my mindset to what I hear to appreciate it as best I can. And to understand what makes others like it more than I do. Band before myself. If I don't enjoy the direction of a band enough I always have to older stuff and my love doesn't change unless the band does something wreckless outside the music.

    Just a theory, but this song may be about themselves. So hear me out. At some point they show pictures of their earlier albums. "The jester that wants to be free" speaks by itself. While the mask stares at the albums, it says "give me a sign, I'm on my knees, seems that u have forgotten me". I really think they are talking about their downfall and new arise, considering the new style adopted which is similar to the old one.
