i know y’all are probably wondering why i didn’t include sonny & cher, but when i went to post this video a few weeks ago every song of theirs got blocked. they had a lot of entries too, so a huge majority of the video would’ve been muted. since youtube allows the inclusion of cher’s solo material, i decided to remake the video to focus on her solo career instead. however, if enough people are interested, I may possibly redo the video with sonny & cher and post it on another platform. let me know what you think ☺️
Cher is the only artist to have a number-one single on a Billboard chart in each of past six decades (1965-2013). (Hot 100, US Dance Club, US Adult Contemporary) She even charted at #6 on US Billboard Latin Digital for Chiquitita in 2020.
@@crownx3843 Yes, but when We Belong Togheter comes out, Mariah was still remembered, when Cher released Believe, she started to be remembered again, before that she was already forgotten by the public.
People make fun of Cher and bash her for not having a career as consistently successful as Madonna's. However, it's more impressive and admirable that an artist who has fell and reached the bottom multiple times has still been able to revive and had success. Who the f*ck would even consider posible that a woman who was 52 year-old, with a 34 year-old career and with a failed era like _It's A Man's World_ would be able to dominate the world and have the best-selling single worldwide of the 1998 and 1999?
Madonna's a better dancer, but Cher's a much better singer. Madonna's popularity was due to marketing, good songs and music videos and self-promotion/re-invention. All admirable, but definitely not an exceptional or special voice.
Cher is also an acclaimed film actress. She was a bonafide movie star in the 80s. She won an academy award for Moonstruck as best actress. Madonna cannot match that. Madonna is a mediocre actress who never really caught on in film.
Fun fact: by 1974 she had become the female artist with the most number-one hits in US history with four (people tend to discredit "I Got You Babe", but it counts as a Cher #1 single because her name is in the credits - "Sonny & CHER" -, the same way Rihanna was able to make multiple #1s as a featured artist). Long live the Goddess of Pop.
@@blacknetsmed You're kind of right tbh, but when she smashed, she definitely smashed hard. Plus, you have to remember this isn't her entire career either, Sonny + Cher songs couldn't be in the video cuz RUclips sucks. Plus, she's like J-Lo in the sense that she's been very successful in many different fields outside of music (like television), so her success is more spread out over different styles. Definitely an iconic career though.
"Rescue Me", the fourth single from the Dark Lady album (and a cover of the classic 1965 Fontella Bass hit) never cracked the Hot 100 but was a Canadian hit. Likewise her cover of Nazareth's hit classic "Love Hurts" charted in the UK but nowhere else. Likewise is the story with her hit singles of cover versions of "Walking In Memphis" (Marc Cohn), "Love Can Build A Bridge" (The Judds), and "You Wouldn't Know Love" (Michael Bolton).

It's so crazy to think that some of CHER's albums didn't even chart! 1975's "Stars" 1976's "I'd Rather Believe In You" and 1982's "I Paralyze"! None of the singles from these albums charted either! Such a shame because they really are good albums!
Surprising that "All Or Nothing", released as the third single from the Believe album, didn't even crack the Hot 100. I was surprised to see after two big hits it didn't even chart (although it did hit #1 on the Dance charts and charted in many other countries -- and was a favorite of mine from that album even before it was a single). Her fourth single from that album "Dov'è l'amore" also failed to crack the Hot 100.
@@W81Researcher Yes it was a hit, right on the heels of "Believe". You don't remember? Look at the chart performance. And I mean dance charts and club play, etc., not just Hot 100.

But the thing is too that others around me said so often how much they liked it and I heard it in clubs so much, when I thought "All Or Nothing" was better. At least that too was finally released as a single but did not perform well at all in the U.S.
@@SWLinPHX Believe had a whole different element to it. It also came out at the right time between Britney and the Latin Invasion/BSB resurgence. I can never understand how every morning by Sugar Ray got way more airplay and kept it from getting number 1 airplay.
