We started with a clean well kept garden. 3/4 was empty/clean. Then there is an little chalet/shed. An glass growhouse.(forgot the english name) Asparagusbed, apple tree, apple tree with cooking apples, peartree, rhubarb plant, blueberrys, blackberries, raspberrys, red currants and black currants, old fashion waterpump , seating area and 2 compostbins. About 350 m2. It's starting to fill up and grow now!!!!
I wish you an fantastic growing year!!!! 🎉

Hi Dora... New subscriber from over here on the coast of Maine. My wife and I watched your garden tour while having supper tonight, and really enjoyed it. We were organic farmers for 20 years in the mountains of Vermont, and now enjoy a sort of "retirement" from it all with a big garden here in the woods. Looking forward to seeing how your season progresses! I wondered if maybe you could speak a bit about how the allotment process works over there, as it is quite foreign to us. Thanks again and great job!

Hi 👋🏻 thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely comment, I’m pleased you enjoyed watching. Wow, 20 years organic farming in Vermont sounds wonderful, as does your big woodland garden. Of course, ill make a note to cover soon. Is there anything in particular you’re wondering about? ☺️

@@doras.allotment Sure...a couple questions that popped in my head were things like "Is there a cost to getting ahold of the plot"?, and "is there a waiting list?", "once you have the allotment, is it yours for as long as you want it?"...stuff like that :)

Wow. Not jealous at all (/s).
This seems like an enormous plot. Is this normal? I think perhaps some of us could do with some back story. Please?
[Also, yes now I need to make some rhubarb and apple crumble.
    Maybe without the rhubarb.
    or the apple,
    drat]

It does seem rather large - I still need to work out what the size is, I'll have to do that soon. Our site seems to be a mixture of a whole variety of sizes.
I've had another comment asking a few Qs in terms of allotment details so I will incorporate more info in one of my next videos. Do you have anything specific you'd like to know other than the size? 🙂
Haha you've just made me fancy a crumble... even with your imaginary rhubarb and apple!!

@@doras.allotment Hey thanks for your reply. As you ask, yes I'd love to know more about your weed management. Such as, given a mountain of, say, nettle, bindweed, maybe even dock etc, you can just stick them in a plastic sack and leave for a few months? I'm a big fan of Charles Dowding too. But tempted to eg dig the woody roots, add initial deep layer of compost, cover with black plastic and plant through that, then remove the ghastly plastic for Year Two. I don't mind weeding though, it's meditative, and done properly, it works!
Edit: also, what gooseberries are you able to recommend, if any? Thanks.

    • @doras.allotment
      @doras.allotment  4 месяца назад +1

I wouldn't say I have a mature method of weed management however, I have been cutting some back (a mix of all weeds) and popping in a container with some water to make a feed. I need to check on this and add to it!
I agree with the meditative act of weeding!
This is my first gooseberry, I started it off in the garden last year and moved it to the allotment this year - it's doing better here. I also can't find the variety but will let you know if I do.

Hello to a Northamptonshire neighbour and thank you for commenting ☺️ We’re in the funny tip of the Cotswolds, where the counties of Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire join and yes very close to the Gloucester border too - isn’t it a wonderful part of the world around here! I enjoy visiting gardens in Northamptonshire too, so if you have any recommendations I’d be grateful! ☺️
