A hurdle I didn't think of. Great tip. I can well imagine that a bit of stress and the will to equalize again and again might not relax the tongue in between as you just push and push and ... I am definitely going to be mindful of this during my next training session.
Harry! Very interesting video as I have not come across teaching of using the tongue to separate cheek-fill from throat and nasal cavity. But looks great. So in essence are you Frenzelling and simply feeding that with your cheek fill as a reservoir? I have been practising using the cheeks as a pump directly for equalising but having reached a decent depth on Frenzel I like the look of this. Am I right in assuming these 2 are quite different techniques then? Great vids maaaaaaan. Crack on!
In essence, they are both mouthfill, glottis is closed, and you are using the air stored in the cheeks and throat to EQ. To Eq using frenzel the means you wont be able to start with such a large fill, as a full fill will not leave enough room in your mouth to create a lock with your tonge, that being said, you wont need that extra air until you want to go super deep (80+)
hello, am training or trying "Tongue Block" or "Squirelling" and I do have some questions about it: 1-how can I train it? 2-when shall i start to use it? K-Lock? 3-is there a way to know if am doing it right? (appart from not swallow my MF).
Have this exact problem at 45-50 metres. It could also be that I am closing the soft palate because of negative pressure compared to my mouth. How to unlock that? Thanks for the vid.
awesome video. But I got a question which I have noticed even other freedives experiencing hope you can help me out. I been in sport for almost 6 years. What's happening is one of my ear sometime left or right stops equalizing but the other ear equalizes. so i cant go on a specific depth cos of one year.when this happens how hard I try it won't work and I will have to get out of water few mins and when it gets better I go in. So how can I fix this issue
freediver Jallez - that's not enough into for me to be able to answer sorry. I'm certain that if we could sit down together I'd spot a few things. one thing of the top of my head is make sure you EQ before you feel any pressure at all, your eustation tubes may collapse if you leave your EQ too late.
Freedive Passion see you already helped out. I will give that theory a try. I only eq when I feel pressure. maybe I should try ahead and see if this imbalance issue happens. thanks you
Nice one Harry, I’m getting on very well with this. Great idea to practice with Ud Banda. Quick question. Is there any reason not to take a fill on the surface just after the full inhale? Hope you’re well mate. I was out with Lou today 👍
Hay David, some people do this, if it is comfortable for you to do that, there is no reason not to - so long as you keep topping it up as you descend. summer is approaching! enjoy the water my friend
Hello, thanks for the great video! One question, if you already have your tongue down could it be that the soft palate is closing? And if so, is there any way to re open it? Thanks again!
it is possible that the tongue in down and soft palate is closed, but more common is you cannot feel that the back of the tongue is up in "K" even thought the front is down. If it is simply that the soft palate is closed then you can open it so long as you do it before the air in the sinus creates a vacuum.
Hi Harry, thanks for your vidéos! I have one question maybe u can help me. I charge my first mouthfill from the surface down to 16/18 then I charge a second mouthfill and I reach 55. But why the second MF do not last deeper than 55? At this depth air in my mouth is finished.. Maybe i think my mouth is filled but in reality it is just partially filled? Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help. Enjoy your diving.
It could be you don't fill enough, it could be you don't know how to EQ with smaller amounts of air, you could be loosing air on the way down. Those are the variables, but you should still have plenty of air at 55
Thanks Harry. Mhhh, I think all those things are true. Probably my MF is weakly filled. Yesterday I tried to fill it as much as I can (dry) and I have to say that is is incredible the volume you can charge. By contrast I felt uncomfortable because of tensions generated by this huge amount of air trapped in my cheeks. Anyway..I need training. One more question please, do you advise packing before a dive around 55/60 or not? I never pack (still I think is uncomfy and generates tensions) but my buddies pack hard to go to 60...do you think it gives benefits? Congratulations for your videos and thanks for sharing experiences. Davide
I don't see any good reason at all to pack to 60m, If you learn to mouthfill properly you don't even need to take a full breath to get to 60m. For some people packing is a sort of crutch to give them confidence.

Excellent exercise tip at the end, exactly what I was looking for cheers.

Chances are you are doing what I spoke about in the video, build awareness to make sure the tongue is down.
