I agree, '67-'68. I was in the afternoon class of kindergarten so I was able to watch a full episode of the Captain. Watching this clip opened a floodgate of memories with the cereal on the train.
I agree, Kevin---seeing the "cereal on the train"---what a blast from the past. (I forgot all about that visual.) If that was '67-'68, I would have been 7/8 years of age. I remember watching The Captain for most of its hour-long broadcast during summer-break from school, as well as holiday breaks. Ah, good times---the world seemed simpler back then; and it was from a child's viewpoint.
Wow did that bring back a childhood memory, seeing him pitching Kellogg’s cereal on the show evoked an amazing feeling of familiarity. Another commentator stated this episode broadcast in 1967, if that’s the case then I was 5 years old and probably watched it. How you got ahold of something this obscure is remarkable. Thank you very much for posting it.
Now THIS is the Captain Kangaroo I like: The '50s, '60s and '70s touch of the show, with no comedy sketches, no "kids like you" segments and no music videos! Animals, Mr. Moose and Bunny Rabbit's antics, etc.!
I watched a 1956 show and none of the background looked familiar. I was born in 62 and this theme song and colors looks way more familiar. Plus, in 56, the Captain was skinny! This is the Captain I remember!
This jars my childhood memories, i waa a little boy when these aired, so do any of the color Captain Kangaroo episodes survive? Would be nice to see them
This clip was first posted on youtube by Philo Farnsworth, but he or she has never revealed the source of the tape, and if the episode exists complete or partially. It is the second oldest surviving color footage tape of the series. Not much was saved.
@@JimGrey I have a few episodes that have never been posted online and I have a Facebook page for the Captain called Captain Kangaroo"s Treasure House Memories. Join us!!
Just hearing that theme song, makes me feel terrific, safe and loved!❤️❤️❤️
Why did it All change.. he was a very calm , kind Role Model.. my granny got a few min of quiet when this show came on the tv😊
Ah, that music, just how I remember it.

same here Kevin... Dec 1967 would have found me in Kindergarten with a 10am start time. Love going back in time.
I loved this show when I was a kid.
The "Captain Kangaroo" logo, each letter in a square with a color background as the theme played, brought back memories.
Thank you for the post!
They were supposed to be children's blocks and were drawn as such in the early days of the Captain.
This commercial comes from the episode of December 27, 1967, which survives in the complete 60 minute CBS version.
Walked off at the end like a BOSS.

SGT MAYHEM and thosewas the cereals your mother would buy they was good for you and the family
Such a great era of TV 📺. Nostalgic
Same here. BTW, your handle is great. Sounds forceful.
I loved Mr Moose ❤ Good memories, innocent times. How sad those days are over. Now 3 year olds have their own cell phones.
This came from the complete episode aired on December 27, 1967.

The Captain also promoted Schwinn bicycles and Wonder Bread (which builds bodies in twelve ways!).
I LOVED Mr.Moose!

Action for Children's Television raised a ruckus about ads like these and had them removed.
Christmas week, 1967 or 1968!
When TV had value...

A few, but most existing episodes survive on black and white kinescope.
the captain hated doing commercials
Remember "Captain Kangaroo" from my childhood.
I watched Capt. Kangaroo faithfully. If I remember correctly, he was even on on Saturday mornings.

That's the account I downloaded this from. I couldn't find it on RUclips anymore so I uploaded it here for all to enjoy.

@@JimGrey And thank you for having done so!
I miss those days when everything wasn't so commercialized
Late 1960s - the set and Captain's costume were redesigned around 1972 or so
Before the gmo infiltration on our food supply the food was so much more wholesome
It takes some brass balls to cut your hair like that and get on t.v. and call yourself captain kangaroo.
He wore a wig for many years, that might not be his real hair!
They called him that because of the large pockets on his jacket. Look up kangaroo pockets.
The Captain should have had the Rolling Stones on singing their Rice Krispies song.
Mr Green Jeans tho
Why is a puppet selling me cereal and big man leering at me? I feel dirty
What do you know about yourself that makes you feel that way?
