    Just found this video and wanted to thank you. We live in a street where every for houses are on a loop. Until your video have not found anyone explaining exactly the problem and more importantly the solution! Cheers.....

      Hi Groucherino. Unlooping is a big project. It cost the DNO thousands of £ but it cost me nothing, it only took 5 working days and now it has added value of my house.

    Never even know they looped power between properties, and the impact it has if you need a greater supply capacity at your property. Great video. 👍

      Hi Simon. Neither did I, that is until my DNO said no to my installation.

    Thank you for uploading this and showing positive side of the DNO work and the workers, it can be a thankless task, the street main would have still been energised while the jointing was done, cable jointers get a hard time and rarely thanked so your video is a present change

      Andy, the people complaining at you are the type that complaine about everything. They need to consider what life would be like without proper hands on workers like you.

    Ours is looped I think I am so stressed about all of this. Our car is ready to pick up but because of this home install issue we can't charge if at home yet. I am worried about the neighbours and that they will hate us for digging the road when it's difficult to get down anyways

    • @UsefulWisdom
      @UsefulWisdom  7 месяцев назад

      Before we were unlooped I used the granny cable that came with the car to charge it. We used a outside electric socket.with an extension to the granny cable.that connected to the EV. But make sure the plug on this cable is protected from rain. I used the front door canapy as protection. A waterproof electroical box should work. As for the neighbours, they should be happy to know their elecricity connection will be upgraded so they will have an electric supply of their own.

    Great vlog explaining your situation.
    I have the same problem, car ordered, charger paid for, then found out about my house being on a looped supply from next door.
    I also have a block paving driveway, my neighbour has a gravel drive.
    I'm at the very early stages at the moment, a project has been raised by my DNO to do the work, but I'm yet to find out how it will pan out.
    But your recorded experience is very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to do it 😁👍

    • @UsefulWisdom
      @UsefulWisdom  3 года назад +1

      Hi Paul. The DNO will look for the cheapest way to unloop you. They will want your electric supply on your property but cost implications will have a part to play in their planning. Let me know how you get on,

    • @paulmilsom1346
      @paulmilsom1346 3 года назад +1

      @@UsefulWisdom thanks Ian, I will let you know what happens.
      Fortunately there is an overhead supply and a support pole at the end of my drive, between mine and my neighbours property, which is where the supply comes from now. So that bits fairly easy, It's the underground bit which would be easier on my neighbours property, but I'd rather they dug mine up to avoid any disruption for them. The email I have from them says they will unloop me at their cost.
      As I said, I'll let you know when I know more 👍

      Hi Paul. Have you thought about asking the DNO for a 3 phase supply to your home? I say this because 5 months ago I received a comment (on this video) that the DNO fit this system to a home. It will give you options for the future, even if you don't use all the phases at this point in time.

      @@UsefulWisdom Hi Ian, no I hadn't thought about it to be honest, I don't think it's something I really need, but thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it a bit more now you've mentioned it to see if it's beneficial to me.
      Incidentally, my pod point installer turned up today expecting to install my charger, I had to tell him that the job had been postponed and read him the email that I'd had from his company, which he hadn't been told about.
      Fortunately whilst he was here, he was able to check my earth bonding was satisfactory, and plan the job for the future. I dont get my new car until mid to late September, so there's no immediate hurry

    • @UsefulWisdom
      @UsefulWisdom  3 года назад +1

      Hi Paul. My DNO allowed my installation to go ahead, under the proviso that I only charged my car at off-peak demand times, that is until I was unlopped. I made a RUclips video of this installation. It may help inform you of what to expect,. The name of the RUclips video is: Ohme Intelligent Smart Charger Installation, How to Use The Ohme App With A Cheap Electric Tariff Paul, we have a smart electric meter and without it we would pay more for our EVs electricity. So we only charge the car when the price is 5p a Kwh, that is 4 hour each day. We get about 70 miles a day in mileage from this (that works out at 25,000 miles a year on our I-Pace). But Paul, you may want a second EV for the wife/partner. With 3 phase supply, no worries. Also Paul, down the road you will have the ability to use power to grid, if you have 3 phase. My electric supplier is already piloting this technology and from what I have seen, it looks good.

    • @UsefulWisdom
      @UsefulWisdom  Год назад +1

      Hi @Mitesh Mistry . Sorry, I don't know but the DNO could be playing it safe. If something in your house stops working when the power goes back on, the DNOs electricians will hand the problem over to your electrician (I would think). For example, when my power goes off, then back on, the clock on my cooker has to be reset. That was not a problem for me to reset it but for some people it would be an issue. DNOs must have people holding their teams of electricians up with such problems. Perhaps your DNO has handed such problems back to their customers.🙄

    Hi, what was the cost of the project? Thanks

    • @UsefulWisdom
      @UsefulWisdom  3 года назад +1

      Hi Ricado. Good question. Initially I argued with the DNO. Since they owned the wire and they had completed the initial installation when the estate was built, why should I have to pay for their problem. Then there was a sudden change of direction from them. Probably this was down to timing and the Government. It actually cost me nothing. From what I was told by the DNO, the work was part funded by the UK Government and by them. The DNO needs to improve the network and I was one of the first on this scheme. I questioned the worker who drove the JCB in the video and he thought I had payed £5,000 for the work. He was surprised when I told him it cost me nothing. The firm that installed my Ohme charger said I was the first person to tell them of the new scheme. They said most people who found they were in looped cancel their installation as soon as they find out the cost of the unlooping process.

      Ricardo, my unlooping and your project are not the same. If there is no electricity service to your land, the DNO will (probably) charge you for the connection. Check with your DNO and please let me know the outcome.

      @@UsefulWisdom waithing an email back, fist email I was asked about what will I use the conecrion for and what sort of power I need and if there will be a ekectric car charging point etc. I'm planing to have a 5kw solar sistem feeding back to the utility company so there will probably be a change for that too? Maybe I will need to meters or 2 cable conection one in and other going out? Not sure I will up date you on wen the email come through from the electric supplier in this case (UKPN) UK Power Network.

      Hi Ricardo, with power back into the grid you will need a meter. The Government stopped feed in tariffs. But some green energy companies pay for what goes into the grid. I know Octopus Energy had a feed in tariff scheme. I think it is 5p a Kwh. Ricardo, Octopus Energy fit smart meters at no cost. I know because I have one. Please contact them for further information. My wife made a RUclips video on their smart meter called: CHEAP GREEN ELECTRICITY AND SMART METERS FROM OCTOPUS ENERGY It should give you an insight into these meters. Indecently, if you switch to them using our link, you get £50 of your bill and we also get £50, best of all, you become our Octopus friend. This is the link you need to use: share.octopus.energy/pink-mou...

    Dirty Secret: Manufacturing Them Leaves Massive Carbon Footprint. Once in operation, electric cars certainly reduce your carbon footprint, but making the lithium-ion batteries could emit 74% more CO2 than for conventional cars.

    • @UsefulWisdom
      @UsefulWisdom  3 года назад

      I am a little confused by your comment. Is the massive carbon footprint caused by the manufacture of the Ohme Charger, the car or the battery and have you estimated the second life these battery's have as storage backup of our national grid?

    • @keithnewton8981
      @keithnewton8981 2 года назад

      Call car haveva large carbon foot print when being manufacture. But an ev does not continue to increase the foot buy huge amounts unlike ice vehicle. Its not a dirty secret at all. Also the average ev has a small manufacturing carbon footprint compared to similar ice vehicle. This has been proven by man independent organisation who monitor the production impact. I do not know where the idea that the manufacturing of Bev vehicle compared ice vehicle has a larger carbon footprint. One can only assume the oil and legacy manufactures have spread this fake information ev cars have less components require less mineral fluids
