A fellow Scot/German here. It's a tie made in dreams for me, but sadly didn't get any tickets for the match. Hope Scotland can get into the knockout stage and I'm actually getting quite confident about Germany atm. We're going to have a much better squad than most people think. Musiala, Gündogan, Wirtz is all I'm saying.

@@redbullsalz The knockout bracket for Euro 2024 is exactly the same one as Euro 2020, IIRC. This is, according to the official regulations of the European Championship by UEFA.
Here's a rundown of the knockout stages:
1.1B vs 3A/D/E/F.
2.1A vs 2C.
3.1F vs 3A/B/C.
4.2D vs 2E.
5.1E vs 3A/B/C/D.
6.1D vs 2F.
7.1C vs 3D/E/F.
8.2A vs 2B.
If you don't know about those number coding, it's represented by the final positions in the group stage (1=Group Winners, 2=Group Runners-up, 3=Best 3rd Place).
So, in theory, if England and France topped the group, they could only met in the semifinal, unless either of those two didn't came in identical positions (or even finished 3rd, which further opens the possibility of both facing each other in Round of 16. The same thing also happened for Portugal and Germany, if they topped the group (of course). Realistically, France and England will unlikely finish 2nd in their respective groups, but there's the likes of Netherlands and Denmark who will upset the respective group prediction (and ensured that France will met England in the Final instead, and vice versa).
I feel that reverting to these knockout brackets proved better challenge for big teams. It's being used in Euro 2016 (and the most football tournaments where 24 teams competed):
1.2A vs 2C.
2.1D vs 3B/E/F.
3.1B vs 3A/C/D.
4.1F vs 2E.
5.1C vs 3A/B/F.
6.1E vs 2D.
7.1A vs 3C/D/E.
8.2B vs 2F.
The weird thing is, even with this traditional knockout bracket, the Euro 2020 Final will still be Italy vs England, albeit in a reverse order (England were the home team instead of away, based on the administrative purposes). And, if we used the new knockout bracket in Euro 2016, you can't see the Portugal vs France Final, as this game will very likely happened in the quarterfinal (due to the fact Portugal will most likely play against the winners of Group B, which, for this case, Wales earlier than semifinal, in reality).

Portugal doesn't have the squad depth imo. Judging by squads France and England should be the favorites then Germany, Portugal and the Netherlands. The Dutch are very much overlooked in my eyes, as they have a killer CB partnership with Van Dijk and van de Ven and also the likes of Xavi Simons, Gakpo, Frimpong, Frankie de Jong and Depay.

The funny thing about England and Belgium is that they have a golden generation team that resulted in the same downward fate (not winning the major trophies), just like the North London rivals, who are still yet to win any kind of major trophies after a long years. Arsenal didn't win the Premier League since their Invincibles in 2004, while Spurs' last major trophies was in 2008.

Overall, Germany's performance in that World Cup was successful, albeit not winning at all. Because they had just beat France, who were the World Cup finalist, twice in the friendlies (2-1 and 2-0), we still hope that they will go further in this Euro.
A big reminder: Although Euro 2024 in Germany came just 10 years after the country's last World Cup triumph in Brazil, this year also marked the 70th anniversary of Germany's first World Cup triumph in Switzerland (the Miracle of Berne) and 50th anniversary of Germany's World Cup triumph in Munich. I think Germany's Euro triumph at Berlin this year could be a big tribute to the Der Kaiser (Franz Beckenbauer), who had passed away at the beginning of this year, as he was the most decorated footballer in the country that captained the team in 1974 World Cup.

They currently have no viable back up to Rice bar the talented but untested Mainoo, with Phillips out of commission with bad form. Yet every pundit under the sun desires to convince us they are the top favorites and strongest squad in Europe? I believe the odds aren’t determined by some supercomputer using algorithms. It is determined by how much money is laid down on any particular team. So If France and England are favourites, it can only mean the most money has been bet by English and French fans.
