I once met Noel in the Steeles bar on Haverstock Hill (London, NW1), around the corner from where he lived at the time. He is nothing like the brash, arrogant character portrayed in the media. He was sitting on his own with a pint of Guinness. I introduced myself. Such a personable, kind, intelligent fella anyone is ever likely to meet.
I work in Essex as a cabbie & years ago, maybe 15-20 years ago, I had to pick someone up from a restaurant at the *Park Lane* hotel London. Now I can't remember if it was Liam or Noel but the customer was telling me that he saw one of them eating in the same restaurant. His wife was apparently a huge fan & he rather chessely went over & told whichever brother it was this & together with the fact it was the woman's birthday. Let's say it was Liam then said - *"Great! Bring her over!"* He then talked to them for about 20 mins, signed an autograph & sung "Happy Birthday" to her! The ying to that yang is a customer who was telling me about a similar encounter with *Ant & Dec* who apparently were vile! I have had the Human League's Phil Oakley in the cab & he was a really nice guy! We also get *Rod Stewart* eating round here quite a bit as he lived quite close by & I am yet to hear anyone have a bad word about him!

He tells me Liam G spotted him, initially like "who the fook are you?", but when he said how much he liked them and was clearly just a normal bloke and not a journalist Liam went "right-o", walked back in, came out with a pack of 4 cans, and offered him one, and they sat and chatted for a while, Noel I am told was inside playing guitar you could here, then saw Liam, walked up, asked "who's this?", Liam explains, and Noel has a can with both of them and then goes back to playing guitar. Didn't seem to last that long. The problem is is I have no way of figuring out if it's true. I saw them live where they told everyone of the bar they were going to get pissed at after and folks are welcome to join, but the only doubt I have is it just sounds way too cool.
I love the Gallagher brothers. They each bring their own individual uniqueness to the same song; as fans, we get to enjoy them both. I think my favorite version is the one I'm listening to at the moment. So right now, it's Noel. Fabulous.
I can’t agree on that. Sure, he has written some golden lines but most of it is not very good. It often feels forced or something he just had to guide the melody that ended up in the final version. But his feel for melodies and hooks is great.
It was approx 15 years I was not listening to this song.. I loved a lot at that time in the 90s. Great version. Besides the performance, I like to see the reactions of the audience. The last sequences with the guy singing along with the band. Great emotions! Thanks for sharing

You can really see the evolution of Noel here. I couldn't see 90s Noel singing CS like this. All the little inflections and tone changes in his delivery, it's very much someone who's worked on his singing. Whereas back in the day he just did a slower version of Liams.

A beautiful song and this arrangement shows it’s beauty even more , the melody is timeless ,simple and impossible to forget while the lyrics make you feel and think of hope and that your going to be ok and deserves more credit. In 95 when I heard this at 12 I was convinced Noel was a genius and struggled bout thinking he’s better then Kurt lol

If you don't hear the "emotion" in Noel's version it's because you don't want to. Don't mistake not hitting the right notes for "emotion" from Liam. That's just laziness and no fucks to give about singing the song for the beauty of the song instead of just for a payday. Liam completely and intentionally evolved his voice to create a Lennon/Lydon sound which layered buckets of irony on Noel's very mellow tracks. That was Oasis. Even Noel admits it. Noel can only purr which is fine but his voice only follows the song's vibe. Liam's technique runs counter to the vibe and thus layers it. Paul McCartney was constantly inventing counter-melody to layer John. Oasis broke up likely because Noel did not respect Liam. But the solo careers show clearly that the brothers are equally gifted.
