  • ASTM E1174 was first developed in 1987 and was developed to evaluate Healthcare Personnel Handwash Formulations (HCPHW) first defined by the FDA in 1978. The method and regulations have undergone several changes and modifications over the decades with the most recent version of the ASTM method being released in 2021 and the FDA publishing the final monograph in 2017.
