    You know how we can tell that nobody is watching wrestling compared to the 90's?? I don't see a classroom full of kids wearing wrestling shirts. I don't see department stores packed to the brim with Kenny Omega or Roman Reigns merch. I don't see the average person on the street using wrestling references and using catch phrases without needing to explain what it's from... Wrestling may be alive and it may be hot as a business, but it's not popular. It's not mainstream. 90% of those fans today's product is taking credit for are just the overflow from the old days. Most of those fans just love wrestling and stuck with it. As far as actual fans being drawn to the product, that isn't happening. Today's product isn't comparible to the 90's and it CERTAINLY isn't comparible to the 80's (which actually had 2-3x the audience the Attitude Era did at it's peak).

      Even with the video games, people who never watched wrestling would play the games..It was just more of a pop culture phenom because back then, there wasn't any streaming or the level of content outlets available now. It's so much entertainment out there, and no one singular entertainment outlet has a monopoly anymore. It was a point in time when everyone looked at the television as the main source of entertainment. Then when the Internet came out, that was niche..It wasn't mandatory for society..then as the Internet solidified, its manifestations created an over-saturation of content. Therefore, people can find what they want. You can watch underground indie movies for the rest of your life without ever having to go to a theatre or watching a mainstream hollywood film. You can watch your news or any type of show from some youtube influencer..Its just a different period of time because the availability of content is at an all time high. In all aspects of show business.

    Amount of wrestling out there is pretty amazing. And there are a LOT of people getting into “the business” - way easier than it was in the territory days!! And the media platforms have changed so much too, without a doubt. But this will lead to a problem of it being “all over the place,” inundation and saturation, and wrestlers “getting lost” or being totally “killed” on their rosters. Orange Cassidy - love him or hate him - found a way of making himself stand out in the indies and made it to AEW. There are def gems out there to be found still. But it means sifting through a LOT of crap to find it - which is what we had to do years and years ago.

      Less is more. Just because you can wrestle 30 minutes of fast paced, acrobatic, craziness doesn't mean you should. Take your time, build up to a big spot or two. The crowd doesn't even consciously realize it, but they will be more entertained that way and it leaves room for the other matches on the card to incorporate some creative highspots when every other match isn't cramming in as many crazy spots as possible.

    The standing vertical suplex was a finisher in the 70s , but it was a transition move by the 80s. Can anyone imagine a vertical suplex being used as a finisher today? Its not the overuse of high spots thats bad. Its the piss poor execution.

If JR thinks there's too much acrobatics, no selling, no pyschology etc in AEW, then there damn well is and Tony & Co. need to take that on board and do something about it.

    Jim brought up the Maryland promotion. I'm sure he's talking about MCW. Got to saw the only time these companies do good is when they bring someone in so I have to disagree with both Konnan and Jim. Go to MCW when it's just the regular crew vs when Flair, Brett Hart and Rakishi show up. As for WWE making more money that means little, because the net profit wasn't great due to them spending way more money than they've ever spent. As for other platforms it's been proven that's not as big as people make it. My son said hardly anybody watches wrestling at his school. That was elementary and middle school.

    I disagree with JR about the game changing. I the NFL they changed the way they play football, in the NBA they changed the way they are playing basketball, in Wrestling, they are pretending wrestling doesn't exist. Doing 7 flips and kicking the guy is cool... but it only work if people believe he's trying to do it to fuck that guy up.

      The crowd is getting smaller and smaller every year. It's one thing to please the crowd in the moment, it's another to get it to come back. When seemingly every guy is doing the same spot on a show every week, many in the crowd will get desensitized to that spot.

    • @ThatsABiggon
      @ThatsABiggon 4 года назад

      @@alejandromelendez1609 That's fine, but that isn't the fault of the young guys these dudes are blaming. Put the blame where it belongs: the most visible company on the planet! Wrestling fans (of which WWE has more than anyone) are bored with constantly being disappointed and not being heard, so they're leaving. And, non-wrestling fans have no characters to connect with. But, these jokers are blaming spots instead of the actual problem: WWE killed kayfabe, the big characters, stables, managers, outlandish situations, and the shoot/dirt sheets and old-timer nag fest blogs/vlogs are helping finish it off (that irrelevant inbred Cornette being the face of has been-ism). So what, they do a tope in every match, well they also do clotheslines, bodyslams, elbow drops, powerbombs, drop kicks, (and on and on), which can be legitimately devastating in a real fight in them too. Hell, the piledriver (which can legitimately kill you) has been ubiquitous in matches for decades, yet wise old JR and the Muppets aren’t mentioning that in his ranting (guess it’s because it’s from one of the slow eras they approve of). I do agree some impactful moves should be worth more and sold as more devastating or as finishers. BUT, these guys don’t have a “leg to stand on” blaming this for dwindling crowds just to make their opinions seem valid to the masses because their contributions may not be.

      "This is awesome!" Chants were a niche thing in Ring of Honor. It was a fun unique thing in a small promotion that catered to hardcore wrestling fans. Now it is a mark thing at every promotion.
