What I find silly with some of these pundits is that they slate fighters for not making big fights happen and dragging them out. When Fury beat Klitschko he was the underdog he didn't become the greatest boxer of the generation so at what point did he claim and was it accepted that he is. I'm not saying he is or isnt I'm just curious how it came to be
The whole "best of era" thing really comes from the mouth of Fury fans, as everybody else is kind of on the fence (he may be the best of his era, he may not be). It all started with the win over Klitschko, and was then fueled by Tyson's mental health 'narrative' and the wins over Wilder, as this made a lot of (especially casual) fans jump on the Fury bandwagon. The win over Wlad has become a bit 'mythologised' as being a great win over an unbeatable champion in his own backyard, when arguably it was actually quite a boring win over an old fighter at the end of a long career. Similarly the wins against Wilder were seen as spectacular because Wilder was rated by some as invincible, although most fans now consider him very overhyped. Is Tyson Fury the best of his era? Imo this still remains to be proved, as he hasn't beaten any top fighters other than those two mentioned. If Fury/Usyk/AJ/Wilder all retired today I think this era would be remembered as an era when no one HW dominated the others because the HW champions were often reluctant to fight, especially against each other.

When Fury beat Klitschko he was the underdog he didn't become the greatest boxer of the generation so at what point did he claim and was it accepted that he is. I'm not saying he is or isnt I'm just curious how it came to be

The whole "best of era" thing really comes from the mouth of Fury fans, as everybody else is kind of on the fence (he may be the best of his era, he may not be). It all started with the win over Klitschko, and was then fueled by Tyson's mental health 'narrative' and the wins over Wilder, as this made a lot of (especially casual) fans jump on the Fury bandwagon. The win over Wlad has become a bit 'mythologised' as being a great win over an unbeatable champion in his own backyard, when arguably it was actually quite a boring win over an old fighter at the end of a long career. Similarly the wins against Wilder were seen as spectacular because Wilder was rated by some as invincible, although most fans now consider him very overhyped.
Is Tyson Fury the best of his era? Imo this still remains to be proved, as he hasn't beaten any top fighters other than those two mentioned. If Fury/Usyk/AJ/Wilder all retired today I think this era would be remembered as an era when no one HW dominated the others because the HW champions were often reluctant to fight, especially against each other.
