I switched over the other day when you said something about it. Sim/standard on controller is a big difference. If you watch slow speed turning, the wheels don’t react to input as quick. If you turn left with standard steering the car turns way before the tires turn to the left. Vice versa for right turn. Sim steering goes with input.
Ive been using sim steering since mid Horizon UK. Its the only way I got 600+ on Needle Climb drift zone. Edit: Once you get a handle on sim steering, you wont go back.
i always use sim steering. dont recall if i did that in horizon 2 but for sure in horizon 3 and other. same in motorsport always sim no clue what it does but i got used to it
I got 580k without sim steering on needle climb was also 27th on a drift zone in lego expansion and was only 1000 points off of 1st would’ve for sure been 1st if I used sim

I did that on 2 and 3 but on 5 I changed it just for the fun of it, I tried it and it felt great but I went back to normal, then realised standard is actually harder to drive than sim, so I went back to sim and will stick on it
100% agree man.. this game is almost amazing.. don't understand what the deal is this time with all the bugs. To be fair I've only had the game crash a few times, since the last update. I'm sure they'll continue to iron it out though.

Controller user here: I use sim steering since i started playing FH5, i DO feel i have more control of the car, i can somewhat predict how it will behave and it does as such. I guess BeamNG helped me grab that "muscle memory" in some way. Note, i play with no assists but ABS. Suggestion for Slap: Try drifting with the Huracán, it's surprisingly good at it
Same everything simulation everything Off I play It feels so much freedom and control with out cutting power to the car in free roam and all Only issue it.. In a race going high speed and trying to hit corners breaking in time is more of a challenge while everyone else has Assists to auto break or something 💀
I got no issues with the game but then again this is the first Forza I've ever played. all I do is drift coz I can't beat the Ai in races lol. sim is the best.
i like how fh5 made it so in the city you can use higher drift cars with the longer and wider turns. past games have been a bit of only being able to drift those in mountains and stuff
The bugs are a finance issue in new generation games across the board. With graphics advancing as far as they have in recent years game developers are investing their limited resources on graphic designers making textures look prettier instead of engineers improving core game functionality. Pretty much every major title I’ve seen in recent years has had these type of issues.
I drove the Huracan Performante in FH5 with a DD Wheel. I hated my life, it kept oversteering and spinning. I drove that car for 3hrs thinking maybe I just suck. Then gave up and used the Tuned Mustang I made. Aero is so damn important in FH5. That stang rode so damn well.
I didn't know much about settings etc about forza before I bought it so I automatically chose sim steering and thought it felt good enough to not try other ones
I've always used Sim steering ever since Forza horizon 4 and I agree it has gotten much better in Forza horizon 5 to the point where it's manageable and almost every condition which is why I use sim all the time you just can't beat smooth drifts
I've never tried sim steering but after watching this video, I'm going to give it a shot and try out them steering wheel settings for drifting, love your videos slaptrain, they're always entertaining to watch and are really helpful with the tunes and settings, keep it up man
so I got my t300rs about 3 months ago and on fh5 launch it automatically put it to simulation and didn't find out till weeks later and it felt better than ever! lol
To add to what Joe put I think they need to fix drift adventure online it only gives you 4 minutes basically enough time for a warm up n a point lap that's it. The length of the lap to the time allocated isn't enough
Only games before I got away from Xbox was forza horizon 1 and forza mororsport 2. Its good that I found you when you got into fh2 afterwards cause now I get to see all of the ups and downs without having to purchase the game. Thanks slap.👍🙂

Sim Steering has been nerfed in FH5 bro, anyone notices how slow it is when trying to pull a car back in after snapping it outward? If you go to telemetry and see the Gs you can see how slow the car maxes out the Gs when turning as compared to fh4 or any past horizon

To me, Sim Steering's response was slowed down wheel when changing direction to make it more controllable. It's a decent difference going from horizon 3-5.
Every game nowadays have so many bugs/glitches. Developers don’t care anymore because people still say “this game is great but..” and people still buy it.

Sim steering is great, I used it a lot on H2 and h3 but stopped on 4 because I forgot 😂 then returning back on fh5 it felt great so I stuck with sim. On 4 it felt weird though, it felt like everything had too much downforce and was bottoming out.

Whenever I touch my controller to look left and right my wheel support fails until I let my controller go and turn the wheel again. So I cant drive and look around at the same time. Anyway to fix it?

I didn't realise it was broken in FH4 I just assumed I didn't have the skill to use it.. I tried it on the g25 and the cars were uncontrollable. I recently bought a G920 and set FH5 to simulation, most fun I have had in years. No going back to controller or normal steering for me. Even if I am racing semi competitive, I would rather use the wheel... not be as good as with the controller and lose... than use a controller and win.
I used to do sim on some tracks back in forza motorsport 3 to get some top spots on the leaderboard. It was only to get the switchbcks fast enough. Snappy a.f but it had to be done
I personally liked that if you threw your wheel in one direction it would cause your car to spin out as it's more realistic, hence it being simulated. I do see this new version being a lot more user friendly though - I just wish there was a setting to give back FULL control of the car. Even sim feels like they're helping me too much. Straight answer: game developed differently. Im not talking about graphics, engine etc. Im talking about the progress of developement. Back in the day games had to be near perfect to be able to make it to the market. Right now they just release them without necessary testing and developement just to be able to release them sooner so they can earn money as soon as possible and then patch it (possibly). This is not only Playground Games but every single game made by kingpin developers have the same carelessness on their game just to earn early profit. Content is there but no sense of actually caring about actual developement whatsoever. Shame
Maybe I need to mess with my actual wheel setting or the games wheel setting because it feels as if their is no force feedback. When I throw the car into a drift the wheel just stays where I put it and doesnt come back to me at all. It feels like im driving on Ice. Im using a Thrustmaster t150

Been watching you play since FH2 came out. And that's when I made the switch from PS to XBOX 💯 just to play FH2 and drift. But I've been using sim steering since then, on FH2... but I will admit, I would get so irritated sometimes and switch it to normal for a bit, then turn it back on lol but with FH5, they have it figured out in my opinion. (I use an elite series 2 controller, no wheel yet 😔)
SIM is the only way to go if you want a somewhat realistic feel. Plus it feels so good when you just step on these controller kids with normal steering lol
It could be that they are trying to cater for all 3 generation of Xbox consoles and a few things have let go in the process that's just my thoughts and opinions but other than that epic game truly amazing

Been playing Forza since motorsport 3. Was disappointed by FH4 so decided to wait when FH5 came out to see gameplay to be able to make a decision, still haven't gotten due to all the problems in the game
This is where I'm going wrong then, I'll be trying sim steering tonight. I was struggling to drift even with stock tyres. I think they've tried to make the game very accessible to all sorts of disabilities. Which is why I think they've made it so grippy in standard steering.
sim steering on wheel is fine if you do SOLO races againstg AI and on road, once you start racing online versus real people and you go dirt and offroad, pretty much wheel is fucked in every scenario, thats why i have gamepad plugged in as well

Sim steering is an absolute must! Normal feels way too sloppy this year. It also seems like most game devs have struggled with launches as of late.

sim for drifting, normal for racing. its hard to push the car when racing on sim steering, at least i find it hard on my tx
