I am very fond of this recording. I think this is some of the best singing Isobel Baillie did in front of the microphones . She is just wonderful as are the great Gladys Ripley , James Johnston and above all Harold Williams who was known as ' Elijah' to two generations of choral singers in the UK. Sargent is in full dramatic command of the Huddersfield Choral and Liverpool Philharmonic. The performance benefits from the fact that all the participants would have regularly interpreted theses roles.
Super recording. I can hear every part so clearly, the tempo is just right and the dynamics bring this piece absolutely alive! Thank you for giving us this. :)
The great James Johnston and a cast of equally talented singers lead by the incomparable Malcolm Sargent singing the sublime Mendolssohn’s moving oratorio. What’s not to like 😉.
This is an excellent recording of a great work. Sir Malcolm's sophistication meets true northern grit. This is an unparalleled combination!

Grande Mendelssohn, ispirato dal Signore; ottimo Sargent e complessivamente artisti e coro.
Beautiful....and with perfect tempo for once!
Brilliant!
I sung in the BBC Prom of Elijah last year and love hearing different recordings! Thanks
I LOVE the Elijah!! Thanks so much for the upload!!
Sargent was a splendid conductor as was the Bass, and Tenor
