Yeah, III was one of the few games that showed the philosophies of Assassins and Templars. It makes you question the Assassin Brotherhood and understand the goals of the Templars.

He wanted to find Altair’s library so he could show people the truth, and wanted to end division among men. He pretty much said that the different beliefs in society had caused a lot of conflicts, which could be avoided if the Templars took charge.

I don't remember any of the Assassin's you could recruit in 3, but I remember exactly one conversation. You sit down with your recruit and then he talks about how he knew Haytham. How he saw him at the opera house that night in the prologue because he was that kid in the balcony. And you just hear his perspective about an event you completely forget about a dozen hours in.
Where would you put it with the more recent additions, rankings wise? I was never a big fan of the earlier games. Played the first, but although aggravated at times enjoyed Black Flag, Origins, Odyssey to a degree, because I’m a history buff. Valhalla is so hard for me to even want to start. I feel like I’d like this
I recently got AC3 remastered on ps5 after not playing it since release and I gotta say, it is an underrated entry. It actually focuses on what being an assassin means unlike Black Flag, and the historical context makes the game even better. In my opinion it’s the last good “true” AC game.

Out of all the AC games, this one still has my favorite setting. A Native American Assassin who was born from a British Templar. Hard to get a backstory much cooler than that. Gameplay wise it had a ton of problems. The story and characters carry the game in my opinion. Conner is put into a lot of personal conflict which makes watching his journey so enjoyable.
I played the every game in the series up to 3 on my brothers Xbox, for my 12th birthday I was given assassin’s creed 3. It was then and is still now my favorite assassin’s creed game, from setting, to gameplay, to story, all of it
Ac3 has crafting with the hunted materials You can make more holsters, bigger quivers among other things Pretty sure you can even make a saddle bag to keep stuff on your horse It’s done through the trading book in the Manor or at shops
Yup, people often forget this mechanic (probably due to the confusing menu). Even though it took some effort to actually craft cool stuff, the system had a surprising amount of depth.
Personally I do think this game does combat well and I've been playing ac games with this combat for so long that I can't even go back to the old style without feeling like a newcomer again.
Ubisoft cutting out the final speech from Conner made absolutely no sense to me it showed me some character development from him being less naïve I would have loved to have seen him again older in something other than a comic
When I was a kid I saw the trailer and saw that you can run through trees and I preordered it the next day, and as cool as the tree running was, I really can’t remember it being important to the game
I always liked AC3 but for 2012 I could understand why people didn’t like this game. The reason it’s liked more now is because the franchise has changed too much so fans begin to appreciate it for what it is.

I enjoyed the story and connor even back when I was a kid and Desmond dying after 4 games was pretty cool and hyped up ac4 pretty well. Soundtrack gameplay mechanics world design customization were pretty damn good, story can be hit or miss for some but the setting and sense of scale of the revolution are fantastic. I'd go further but I'm not writing anymore paragraphs.

Those who shouted "Liberty!" at the top of their lungs were ultimately the reason Connor's village lost their "Liberty", and the reason Connor (like all young men) had to come to terms with compromise and the shifting nature of beliefs.
The scene with Pitcairn is such a gem. It was the first time in the game where it really highlighted that action is not always the best answer. "You weild your blade like a man, but your mouth like a child. And now more will die because of that." Powerful.
At the time i really thought the slow start would be because it was planned to be a multi game story, which honestly might have given Connor a chance for more growth and change like the previous trilogy.. It could have been great, as with all AC especially recent Ubisoft let it down
The part of Connor being involved in the Boston Tea party kinda plays into what really happened where colonist dressed as "native Americans" tossed the tea into the sea. So you could theorize in the games lore they saw Connor the native and then news printed/illustrated it was native Americans involved.
Except none of the people involved actually looked and dressed like real Indians, it was more or less a joke. It was so "witnesses" could claim they saw Indians but they knew all along they were not and was purely symbolic. Mainly it was an excuse to paint their faces so they couldn't be identified but it is unlikely it fooled anyone
I remember when I picked up AC3 on the Switch and really enjoying it, and it cemented itself as a favorite for me. Random thoughts going through this… - with the parkour, I get it’s more limited, but I began to appreciate it when I learned to start using the A and B buttons to ignore the “safe pathing”, especially the drop button to just cancel. I do appreciate the way you approached discussing this though with observing the builds of the worlds. - more just a fun fact: Snares also have a counter kill animation. - I admittedly think I prefer the limited, cumbersome naval combat of 3 over 4 😅 it felt more believable and I could feel the impact of the different cannon shots. - iirc, Connor didn’t want to kill Johnson at first, which was why he was so willing to go with the Tea Party, and the after events show him that these men are relentless. I do agree mostly on the Pitcairn sequence..the missions in that one are *mostly* very iffy. Another highlight besides his talk with Pitcairn though is it leads into an amusing, almost familial feeling conversation between Connor and Achilles, only to highlight how Connor shifts his tone and speech when around new people. - I’m mildly disappointed to you didn’t highlight Connor’s speech at Achilles’s grave 😦 it’s a beautiful speech (and the recruits themselves, as monotonous as their missions can be, give neat Assassin tricks and some good character conversations as well afterwards.)
I loved AC3 the most in the series. Cause I did all the side missions which adds a lot of depth to the main character. He is not bland at all he is a complex character with a unique personality. He is very powerful but very emotional guy doing his best in a world he doesn't understand.
My favorite thing about AC3 was it’s the first game I bought at release after trying Brotherhood at a friends. It also set up Black Flag as a game and made ship combat and other gameplay features much better, allowing Black Flag to become the great game it was
I’ve recently been playing through the original version on PC (the remaster is such a mixed bag because I love the gameplay and UI changes but the new lighting kills the art style and the faces take me out of any cutscene). Being an American I can say that I wasn’t very excited for this game when it came out because I would much rather see other historical locations. With time, like you, my fondness for this game has grown. My real big issue with this game is the crappy AI detection and the first few sequences after Conor becomes an assassin. I loved Haythams bit and the sequences in which they work together. The homestead and its missions were a true highlight of the experience and triumphs over what Valhalla tried to do with Ravensthrop

I wish we could go back to AC Brotherhood/Revelations assassin's recruitment and management but with some upgrades. Also rebuilding/building a meaningful settlement for cash and resources
I still remember the pre-order ACIII Join or Die edition for the PS3. I greatly enjoyed playing as Haytham, I almost wanted to quit on AC in total as I had to kill him as Connor. What I truly enjoyed was wandering the frontier. It felt quite immersive. I also purchased the remastered edition. Sadly the Aquila missions do not feel as smooth as steering the Jackdaw or the Morrigan.

Yeah, but none we've played as up to this point. All the characters we played as we wore hoods. Haytham didn't so i never omce though that he was an assassin. Escprvially since the logo was nowhere to be found on his outfit.@StealthyWaIIaby
So many ppl were spoiled by Ezio that they completely looked over/slept on Conor and always call him boring yet have never played the homestead missions. Or are blinded by nostalgia. Not to mention it has the best combat in the series, and arguably characters, and no doubtful open world hunting. And had the best modern day
Also the inherent bias and subjectivity of the Animus is brought up as early as AC1 Vidic claims the Animus shows the absolute truth with no room for misinterpretation. And Desmond rebukes him by saying “there’s always room” (to which Vidic agrees but swiftly moves on)
Big fan of how much of this video can be summed up as "Foresaken is a fantastic novel and you should read it" but I do think you do hit the nail on the head. The last 3 sequences was really where I think this game tripped on it's face and so much of that comes from me not being able to rationalize why the hell Connor decided all of it was Haytham's fault, or why he would think helping Washington afterwards is a strategically sound option.
AC3 has and always be my favorite AC game. Connor is my favorite assassin and always will be. Sure he could be naive at times, but he always learned from his mistakes and always got back up and kept pushing forward. He never compromised his honor or integrity as well. To me, that's what makes him so relatable. Plus he was a force to be reckoned with.
I love this game as it has a true moral ambiguity, the idea that the templars have a decent argument and the assassins do as well, one seemingly looking naive but instead being resolute, and the other being more pragmatic, but ultimately a hopeless view. I really liked the fact that there is a realistic aspect to how no one is always right, there is a down side to most of it, but it also feels like the lead is a real person and not a characature, also feels like a boss, the combat is still my favorite and the best robes of any game, but I also appreciate the depth of the characterization depending on how much time you spend on the side quests, wish we could still have Desmond in the main story, but it's a great cap to the best games of the series, if I could have the black flag naval in AC3, pretty much make it my favorite AC game, and I say that knowing how much I love Ezio and Altair, requiesca in pace!!!!
@AwesomeSauce11823 Exactly, the side quests could be missed, but that makes it feel more natural to me, Rogue was very simple, fun and cool to see a man disillusioned from the assassin's but the story was very short and sweet.
I replayed it a few years back when it was remastered and fell in love with it. It helps that im buff for american history, but the game felt like it was a weird assassin version of Red Dead in parts. And i dont hate how it wrapped up the desmond plotline. I just dislike what came after
Great video! 14:10 oh yeah that is a pretty hype moment. 20:54 Now this was a real double edged sword. On one hand "oh cool they're doing something interesting". On the other I felt they never quire lived up to that promise as unfortunately that meant Connor just fighting Templars without really getting to understand why they were even doing what they what they were doing. Idk ACIII felt distinct in this regard as the Haytham chapters were promising making the Assassin/Templar dynamic more complicated (tho ofc one should mention the real world historical context of Europeans taking indigenous land which obviously is an important factor in this dynamic of this setting) but I nevertheless found it narratively frustrating. 01:35:04 oh exactly. This is pretty much the issue with art vs business. Basically "it makes so much money we can't afford to end". Like why would they get rid of cash cow but it completely fucked the story of it all. I have to appreciate when a work of art inspires so many thoughts but the story really needed some more bullet points (and I think it's fair to criticise what is actually presented in the game even if other media answers some of the questions especially considering the game is the "main" product here. I really liked building the homestead but absolutely didn't enjoy the "Encyclopedia Of The Common Man" stuff bc that was so bloody random and having to catch npcs in an open world game doing a random things at a random time ughh. Oh some of those hidden treasure naval missions are great. Apparently I didn't engage with the naval when I first played it as I didn't know they existed until I replayed it years later lol. For ages I lamented the lack of assassin tomb-like stages in ACIII.
Assassin's Creed 3 has a large amount of content that has so much potential to be great, but either is wasted or done poorly, such as: 1. Connor being half Native and half British. 2. Revolutionary America being about freedom against tyranny (which is perfect for the Assassin's vs. Templars story). 3. Haytham being an Assassin turned Templar who finds out his son has joined the Brotherhood. 4. Connor's trauma and constant betrayal from the people and friends around him. 5. His tribe's deep culture and history and how that mixes with him being an Assassin. All of this and so much more is wasted in my opinion. I truly think that done right, this game's story could have been one of the best in the franchise.
Yeah this game really had the most potential out of all of them. But maybe it was too much and that's why it became a mixed bag in the end. The writers prolly should have focused on one of these topics or just made a sequel game/trilogy where you could explore all of these ideas. Although two games in the same time period/location could get kinda boring as well🤷🏽
I remember really liking AClll, I’m not really sure why, but I think it was because of the combat. Running into a group of enemies and full sprint hitting them in the face with a tomahawk made younger me laugh.
While I agree that I don't care if Ubisoft fiddles with history a bit I feel making Connor be directly involved in the major war defining events of the American Revolution to be jarring where there were just as many lesser known events that had a massive impact on how the war would play out. Imagine if for example you had to protect one of Washington's spies or if Connor was in Ethan Allen's little crew for a little bit
Ac 3 has always been one of my favorites in the series. I love the setting, and I actually enjoy the old counter combat system, and thought ac 3 had the best animations for it. And I liked Connor as a protagonist. I didn’t need him to be super charismatic after 3 games as ezio
I think haytham characterisation is the most interesting of any Templar. It’s a shame Ubisoft don’t take their time when it comes to writing characters in their world now. Everything seems so surface level now something I’ve realised is that AC 3 was also their first “underdog”assassin story
AC3 was never bad in my opinion. I’ll never forget the hype when I saw that cinematic trailer and couldn’t wait for its release. I still play it to this day
in regards to connors involvement in the war, i feel it's kind of a damned if you do damned if you don't kind of thing but there could've been a balance between it, they went ham on and balls out with his involvement basically having him be captain america lol. They could've done the unity route of having the revolutionary war be an after thought and just tell connors story up front. See, it's either they go full balls to the wall with the protagonist's involvement in the events or the events take a back seat and act as trailer fodder for the game.
I really didn't mess much with this game but for some reasons with time. I have started to soften towards games like AC3 and Rogue because of their unique setting and vibe.
I dunno, I thought 3 was actually really really good, played it twice, loved the hunting, the homestead, the beta for ship combat implemented in the game as a test.. The underground that unlocks the fast travel and being forced to walk down there to get the fast travel was tedious though
AC3 was pretty good I did like tree climbing and using the Tomahawk in combat, using a Bow for stealth attacks and beating up enemies with their own guns was fun I didn’t like the quick time events when fighting Aggressive animals cause of that one mission near the end, cause the wolves are too fast and the timing is broke My only issue with the remastered is that it kind of ruined the visuals of the characters models Made them look worse imo

I really enjoyed AC3 at launch I will admit this was the first Assassin's Creed game that I ever pre-ordered. I remember getting my steelbook case, and I picked it up the day after lunch because I was at work that evening and playing through it on the PlayStation 3, I enjoyed the parkour and climbing through the trees in the wilderness area and the new tomahawk weapon. If you never played the homestead missions Connor's character feels a little bit better once you see him fleshed out more through those missions. I will probably die on this hill but Assassin's Creed III is one of my favorite Assassin's Creed games of all time and I don't care what anyone else says, and I still go back and play it from time to time even if it's just a free roam on my PS4's remastered Edition. I need to go back and revisit liberation.
Connor’s idealism is what makes him one of my favourite protagonists. It isn’t always naïveté - he’s under no illusion that the world is fair for people like him, but he firmly believes it should be and the fact that it isn’t easy won’t stop him from trying to make it so. He’s put in the lose-lose scenario of the Native Americans where whoever wins the revolution, they lose their land and autonomy. Because while both sides promise them the natives their freedom if they side with them, both sides are lying. Connor sides tries to get the revolutionary congress to care about the Native Americans because they claim to stand for freedom and justice, even though they don’t apply those concepts equally (something Connor calls them out on when chastising them for having slaves). He thinks he can get them to apply those principles universally. Connors only naïveté is not realising that the revolutionary congress only care about them and theirs and it’s agenda can’t be changed from within by cosying up to them and must be opposed by force from the outside. A realisation he comes to all too late. And this is what I got from the text of the game, not including the cut monologue at the end (which absolutely should have been included) where he goes “yeah the world sucks and I’m probably going to die in my quest to make it a better place but fuck you that won’t stop me, how’s that for a compromise”
I think there are two key problems with the Assassin's Creed franchise: 1) Assassin's Creed II set the bar way too frigging high. 2) Ubisoft suck at everything.
The issues people have with AC3 are completely valid but this game has been my favorite in the series ever since i got into AC. It definitely could've been more and i can see how other games in the series did certain things better, but something about it just clicks for me. Could also be that i root for underdogs😂
Ngl in terms of replay value, parkouring in this game is actually quite good. It sure is a downgraded version of ac1-Rev but all I can say is this. It has better parkour animations than Unity... Like genuinely it feels smoother and more consistent and overall if it just hadn't changed its controls to focus more on automation and instead is like ac1-to Rev where you still have the catch ledge and legs button but just has its animations, I genuinely think that it could've had the best parkour.
You know whats worst abt this game its the fact its in the files of the game connors speech is. wish they could have added it in someway. Not a whole new cutscene but maybe a collage of cutscenes with connors speech.
FYI, the people who did the tea party actually dressed up as native Americans. So I think Connor is there in that specific sequence because he is the poster boy native. Not saying it makes perfect sense but do with this info what you will
Out of all the mid tier AC games I do think 3 is the best. The story is messy but I genuinely like the characters. I think Connor is more nuanced that people give it credit for, I like how much will power he has, even to a detriment and how the story basically puts that to the test. A lot of people complain he doesn't have an arc but I think in this case and with this kinds of characters that works more in favor than against it.
I have been watching your videos since God knows when, I am your long time fan and I'm pretty sure I remember those days when you were Criticizing AC3 a lot, whether it's Critisism or jokes but I remember very well watching you from then, I never thought a day would come where you would admire AC3, I am glad you finally realised.
I hated the notoriety system in the original version but it seemed to be fixed in the remaster. As a huge history buff, going back to these games and time periods is always fun. AC 3 may not be perfect but I still love it for what it did. If only the modern day story didn't fall apart after this game :(

I liked Assassins Creed 3 and I' tired of pretending otherwise. It was a great AC game that did its best to end the Desmond saga and live up from the Ezio saga

3 was honestly, my favorite just a genuine story. I remember literally running everywhere from quest to quest just to play it longer.

Yup, people often forget this mechanic (probably due to the confusing menu). Even though it took some effort to actually craft cool stuff, the system had a surprising amount of depth.

Personally I do think this game does combat well and I've been playing ac games with this combat for so long that I can't even go back to the old style without feeling like a newcomer again.

When I was a kid I saw the trailer and saw that you can run through trees and I preordered it the next day, and as cool as the tree running was, I really can’t remember it being important to the game
I always liked AC3 but for 2012 I could understand why people didn’t like this game. The reason it’s liked more now is because the franchise has changed too much so fans begin to appreciate it for what it is.

I enjoyed the story and connor even back when I was a kid and Desmond dying after 4 games was pretty cool and hyped up ac4 pretty well. Soundtrack gameplay mechanics world design customization were pretty damn good, story can be hit or miss for some but the setting and sense of scale of the revolution are fantastic. I'd go further but I'm not writing anymore paragraphs.

Those who shouted "Liberty!" at the top of their lungs were ultimately the reason Connor's village lost their "Liberty", and the reason Connor (like all young men) had to come to terms with compromise and the shifting nature of beliefs.
The scene with Pitcairn is such a gem. It was the first time in the game where it really highlighted that action is not always the best answer. "You weild your blade like a man, but your mouth like a child. And now more will die because of that." Powerful.

The part of Connor being involved in the Boston Tea party kinda plays into what really happened where colonist dressed as "native Americans" tossed the tea into the sea. So you could theorize in the games lore they saw Connor the native and then news printed/illustrated it was native Americans involved.
Except none of the people involved actually looked and dressed like real Indians, it was more or less a joke. It was so "witnesses" could claim they saw Indians but they knew all along they were not and was purely symbolic. Mainly it was an excuse to paint their faces so they couldn't be identified but it is unlikely it fooled anyone

- with the parkour, I get it’s more limited, but I began to appreciate it when I learned to start using the A and B buttons to ignore the “safe pathing”, especially the drop button to just cancel. I do appreciate the way you approached discussing this though with observing the builds of the worlds.
- more just a fun fact: Snares also have a counter kill animation.
- I admittedly think I prefer the limited, cumbersome naval combat of 3 over 4 😅 it felt more believable and I could feel the impact of the different cannon shots.
- iirc, Connor didn’t want to kill Johnson at first, which was why he was so willing to go with the Tea Party, and the after events show him that these men are relentless. I do agree mostly on the Pitcairn sequence..the missions in that one are *mostly* very iffy. Another highlight besides his talk with Pitcairn though is it leads into an amusing, almost familial feeling conversation between Connor and Achilles, only to highlight how Connor shifts his tone and speech when around new people.

I loved AC3 the most in the series. Cause I did all the side missions which adds a lot of depth to the main character. He is not bland at all he is a complex character with a unique personality. He is very powerful but very emotional guy doing his best in a world he doesn't understand.
My favorite thing about AC3 was it’s the first game I bought at release after trying Brotherhood at a friends. It also set up Black Flag as a game and made ship combat and other gameplay features much better, allowing Black Flag to become the great game it was
I’ve recently been playing through the original version on PC (the remaster is such a mixed bag because I love the gameplay and UI changes but the new lighting kills the art style and the faces take me out of any cutscene). Being an American I can say that I wasn’t very excited for this game when it came out because I would much rather see other historical locations. With time, like you, my fondness for this game has grown. My real big issue with this game is the crappy AI detection and the first few sequences after Conor becomes an assassin. I loved Haythams bit and the sequences in which they work together. The homestead and its missions were a true highlight of the experience and triumphs over what Valhalla tried to do with Ravensthrop

I wish we could go back to AC Brotherhood/Revelations assassin's recruitment and management but with some upgrades. Also rebuilding/building a meaningful settlement for cash and resources

I still remember the pre-order ACIII Join or Die edition for the PS3. I greatly enjoyed playing as Haytham, I almost wanted to quit on AC in total as I had to kill him as Connor. What I truly enjoyed was wandering the frontier. It felt quite immersive. I also purchased the remastered edition. Sadly the Aquila missions do not feel as smooth as steering the Jackdaw or the Morrigan.
I always thought haytham was a Templar I didn’t even know we were supposed to think otherwise. He looks like one and doesn’t have a hood so how could he be an assassin 😂

Vidic claims the Animus shows the absolute truth with no room for misinterpretation. And Desmond rebukes him by saying “there’s always room” (to which Vidic agrees but swiftly moves on)

The title screen theme for this game was pretty damn good. I find myself humming it even today.
Big fan of how much of this video can be summed up as "Foresaken is a fantastic novel and you should read it" but I do think you do hit the nail on the head. The last 3 sequences was really where I think this game tripped on it's face and so much of that comes from me not being able to rationalize why the hell Connor decided all of it was Haytham's fault, or why he would think helping Washington afterwards is a strategically sound option.
AC3 has always been my favorite. More than anything it’s the time that it came out in and the memories that I have playing it
This was my first AC game I played, it’s the most played AC I have, and I just finished it for the 30th time last week… always so much fun
AC3 has and always be my favorite AC game. Connor is my favorite assassin and always will be. Sure he could be naive at times, but he always learned from his mistakes and always got back up and kept pushing forward. He never compromised his honor or integrity as well. To me, that's what makes him so relatable. Plus he was a force to be reckoned with.
I love this game as it has a true moral ambiguity, the idea that the templars have a decent argument and the assassins do as well, one seemingly looking naive but instead being resolute, and the other being more pragmatic, but ultimately a hopeless view. I really liked the fact that there is a realistic aspect to how no one is always right, there is a down side to most of it, but it also feels like the lead is a real person and not a characature, also feels like a boss, the combat is still my favorite and the best robes of any game, but I also appreciate the depth of the characterization depending on how much time you spend on the side quests, wish we could still have Desmond in the main story, but it's a great cap to the best games of the series, if I could have the black flag naval in AC3, pretty much make it my favorite AC game, and I say that knowing how much I love Ezio and Altair, requiesca in pace!!!!

@AwesomeSauce11823 Exactly, the side quests could be missed, but that makes it feel more natural to me, Rogue was very simple, fun and cool to see a man disillusioned from the assassin's but the story was very short and sweet.
I replayed it a few years back when it was remastered and fell in love with it. It helps that im buff for american history, but the game felt like it was a weird assassin version of Red Dead in parts. And i dont hate how it wrapped up the desmond plotline. I just dislike what came after

On the other I felt they never quire lived up to that promise as unfortunately that meant Connor just fighting Templars without really getting to understand why they were even doing what they what they were doing. Idk ACIII felt distinct in this regard as the Haytham chapters were promising making the Assassin/Templar dynamic more complicated (tho ofc one should mention the real world historical context of Europeans taking indigenous land which obviously is an important factor in this dynamic of this setting) but I nevertheless found it narratively frustrating.

I have to appreciate when a work of art inspires so many thoughts but the story really needed some more bullet points (and I think it's fair to criticise what is actually presented in the game even if other media answers some of the questions especially considering the game is the "main" product here. I really liked building the homestead but absolutely didn't enjoy the "Encyclopedia Of The Common Man" stuff bc that was so bloody random and having to catch npcs in an open world game doing a random things at a random time ughh. Oh some of those hidden treasure naval missions are great. Apparently I didn't engage with the naval when I first played it as I didn't know they existed until I replayed it years later lol. For ages I lamented the lack of assassin tomb-like stages in ACIII.
Assassin's Creed 3 has a large amount of content that has so much potential to be great, but either is wasted or done poorly, such as:
1. Connor being half Native and half British.
2. Revolutionary America being about freedom against tyranny (which is perfect for the Assassin's vs. Templars story).
3. Haytham being an Assassin turned Templar who finds out his son has joined the Brotherhood.
4. Connor's trauma and constant betrayal from the people and friends around him.
5. His tribe's deep culture and history and how that mixes with him being an Assassin.
All of this and so much more is wasted in my opinion. I truly think that done right, this game's story could have been one of the best in the franchise.
Yeah this game really had the most potential out of all of them. But maybe it was too much and that's why it became a mixed bag in the end. The writers prolly should have focused on one of these topics or just made a sequel game/trilogy where you could explore all of these ideas. Although two games in the same time period/location could get kinda boring as well🤷🏽

I remember really liking AClll, I’m not really sure why, but I think it was because of the combat. Running into a group of enemies and full sprint hitting them in the face with a tomahawk made younger me laugh.
While I agree that I don't care if Ubisoft fiddles with history a bit I feel making Connor be directly involved in the major war defining events of the American Revolution to be jarring where there were just as many lesser known events that had a massive impact on how the war would play out. Imagine if for example you had to protect one of Washington's spies or if Connor was in Ethan Allen's little crew for a little bit
Ac 3 has always been one of my favorites in the series. I love the setting, and I actually enjoy the old counter combat system, and thought ac 3 had the best animations for it. And I liked Connor as a protagonist. I didn’t need him to be super charismatic after 3 games as ezio
I think haytham characterisation is the most interesting of any Templar. It’s a shame Ubisoft don’t take their time when it comes to writing characters in their world now. Everything seems so surface level now something I’ve realised is that AC 3 was also their first “underdog”assassin story
AC3 was never bad in my opinion. I’ll never forget the hype when I saw that cinematic trailer and couldn’t wait for its release. I still play it to this day

in regards to connors involvement in the war, i feel it's kind of a damned if you do damned if you don't kind of thing but there could've been a balance between it, they went ham on and balls out with his involvement basically having him be captain america lol. They could've done the unity route of having the revolutionary war be an after thought and just tell connors story up front. See, it's either they go full balls to the wall with the protagonist's involvement in the events or the events take a back seat and act as trailer fodder for the game.
I really didn't mess much with this game but for some reasons with time. I have started to soften towards games like AC3 and Rogue because of their unique setting and vibe.

The underground that unlocks the fast travel and being forced to walk down there to get the fast travel was tedious though

AC3 was pretty good
I did like tree climbing and using the Tomahawk in combat, using a Bow for stealth attacks and beating up enemies with their own guns was fun
I didn’t like the quick time events when fighting Aggressive animals cause of that one mission near the end, cause the wolves are too fast and the timing is broke
My only issue with the remastered is that it kind of ruined the visuals of the characters models

I really enjoyed AC3 at launch I will admit this was the first Assassin's Creed game that I ever pre-ordered. I remember getting my steelbook case, and I picked it up the day after lunch because I was at work that evening and playing through it on the PlayStation 3, I enjoyed the parkour and climbing through the trees in the wilderness area and the new tomahawk weapon. If you never played the homestead missions Connor's character feels a little bit better once you see him fleshed out more through those missions.
I will probably die on this hill but Assassin's Creed III is one of my favorite Assassin's Creed games of all time and I don't care what anyone else says, and I still go back and play it from time to time even if it's just a free roam on my PS4's remastered Edition. I need to go back and revisit liberation.

Connor’s idealism is what makes him one of my favourite protagonists. It isn’t always naïveté - he’s under no illusion that the world is fair for people like him, but he firmly believes it should be and the fact that it isn’t easy won’t stop him from trying to make it so.
He’s put in the lose-lose scenario of the Native Americans where whoever wins the revolution, they lose their land and autonomy. Because while both sides promise them the natives their freedom if they side with them, both sides are lying.
Connor sides tries to get the revolutionary congress to care about the Native Americans because they claim to stand for freedom and justice, even though they don’t apply those concepts equally (something Connor calls them out on when chastising them for having slaves). He thinks he can get them to apply those principles universally.
Connors only naïveté is not realising that the revolutionary congress only care about them and theirs and it’s agenda can’t be changed from within by cosying up to them and must be opposed by force from the outside. A realisation he comes to all too late.
And this is what I got from the text of the game, not including the cut monologue at the end (which absolutely should have been included) where he goes “yeah the world sucks and I’m probably going to die in my quest to make it a better place but fuck you that won’t stop me, how’s that for a compromise”

1) Assassin's Creed II set the bar way too frigging high.

The issues people have with AC3 are completely valid but this game has been my favorite in the series ever since i got into AC. It definitely could've been more and i can see how other games in the series did certain things better, but something about it just clicks for me. Could also be that i root for underdogs😂

Ngl in terms of replay value, parkouring in this game is actually quite good. It sure is a downgraded version of ac1-Rev but all I can say is this. It has better parkour animations than Unity... Like genuinely it feels smoother and more consistent and overall if it just hadn't changed its controls to focus more on automation and instead is like ac1-to Rev where you still have the catch ledge and legs button but just has its animations, I genuinely think that it could've had the best parkour.
I liked the ACIII quite a lot when I originally played it.
You know whats worst abt this game its the fact its in the files of the game connors speech is. wish they could have added it in someway. Not a whole new cutscene but maybe a collage of cutscenes with connors speech.
FYI, the people who did the tea party actually dressed up as native Americans. So I think Connor is there in that specific sequence because he is the poster boy native. Not saying it makes perfect sense but do with this info what you will

Out of all the mid tier AC games I do think 3 is the best. The story is messy but I genuinely like the characters. I think Connor is more nuanced that people give it credit for, I like how much will power he has, even to a detriment and how the story basically puts that to the test. A lot of people complain he doesn't have an arc but I think in this case and with this kinds of characters that works more in favor than against it.

I hated the notoriety system in the original version but it seemed to be fixed in the remaster. As a huge history buff, going back to these games and time periods is always fun. AC 3 may not be perfect but I still love it for what it did. If only the modern day story didn't fall apart after this game :(
