What this accomplishes is originality which these days is less frequently found. The octifier (and flange?) on the vocals at 2:24 sound other worldly and set up the contrasting growls to jump out.

I like the fact that it's very proggy, yet not overly so. Too often bands can go too far with that. If a song is straightforward then it should sound like it. That having been said it's very well written and performed by all. First rate!
