I prefer S1 over this one because their is too much exposition in the latter season and it only takes place in a single location. It's still good but S1 was too mysterious and I really prefer that. @@zekron1718
this episode never fails to make me cry. when i watched this episode when it first came out, it couldnt have come at a better time. every word said in this episode is something that 17 year old me desperately needed to hear, and it made me sob for hours.

i read this when i was 17 and it profoundly affected me, it became more true when i actually went through what subaru went through at 18. i dropped out of school and became a shut in as well. its weird how universal this stuff is, even in america shame and expectations can make you feel way too much to keep going. they did a good job at making subarus backstory feel so… universally understandable. its not uniquely japanese. even his parents are pretty open minded and understanding.
not that its a bad thing if something is uniquely japanese, but i wonder how intentional it was. i think it was mostly done to easier relate subaru to all rhe characters this season. as isolation, expectations, freedom of choice, are all things characters feel this season.

A: They’re enduring the disappearance of their eldest son somehow or other. The police investigation has no leads, and Kenichi is trying to comfort Naoko but it’s not that effective. They’re passing each day tearfully.
Fucking hell, this is brutal
I found it weird that up to this point in the show, Subaru never once thought about his parents who, apparently were awesome to him. Guy was so infatuated with Emilia that he forgot about his parents.
@@beige_projectionSubaru did think about his parents, he actually mentions them a few times in the novel. But he subconsciously knew he would never return to Japan, so he basically repressed it because it was too painful to think about (as shown in this episode).
If it makes you feel better, they get mentioned every once in a while from here on. Now that Subaru has made peace with never returning, he can think about his parents happily.
@@chelronin7843 They should have included that in the show. It was hard enough to like Subaru as it is. Him thinking about it parents from time to time would have increased his likeability. As an anime-only, it was weird for me that he never thought about his parents up to this point in the anime and then we find out that they're actually good parents. Him getting the feeling that he'd never return to Japan was also not in the anime, at least not to this point.
pretty sure he got hit by a truck, every isekai has truck send them to another world and im not making it up
also i think subaru saw a light in episode 1 when being isekaid so i think he just died like he died many times
The scene with his mom always gets me 😭
There were three moments to cry.
1. When Subaru cried in front of his father because he realized that he would never see them again.
2. When Subaru cried in front of his mother because he realized that he ignored and wasted the affection of his parents and he paid them by disappearing from this world.
3. And finally, Subaru never returned his mother's goodbye before leaving to another world.
That last moment was too much for me...
The worst part is that he reconciled himself with his simulation versions, not with his real versions. His parents will continue to blame themselves for not paying more attention to their son, while Subaru must be remorseful for the rest of his life.
When Echidna appeared, Subaru realized that he never said sorry to his parents.

was depressed, struggled to wake up kinda falling asleep and waking up multiple times before school because i didnt want to go and i was stressed the whole time until school began, i was on my bed and i said to myself im late anyway, might as well not go to school rest for today because im tired and tommorow i will go, but i didnt go i did the same thing
obviously i did go to school every now and then and i barelly passed and now i got a job and im not like that anymore, i go to work every day and all
its just school and bullies and social anxiety ecc i just couldnt do it

This is a heartbreaking conformation that Subaru’s disappearance hurt his family more than he can even imagine.
The scene with Subaru’s mother saying “Take Care” can be interpreted differently as well. In Japanese culture this saying would translate to Subaru’s mom saying “Please comeback safely” and Subaru should have said “I’ll go and I’ll comeback”. But when the last time Subaru saw his mother. He didn’t replied back to her. Subaru’s mom could have interpreted this as when Subaru was leaving home, he did not had any intention of coming back. There is a high chance that Subaru’s mom thinks that Subaru took his own life.
The moment an isekai uses its past worl like this it instantly wins me over

@@zekron1718 Well at first I hated it because I found Subaru to be insufferable but then the rem episode made me like the show but parent and child made it my favorite isekai
FYI this backstory about Subaru previous world is unique to Re:Zero, because most of others isekai anime just straight up forgetting & almost never mentioning the MC prev world, they just too focus on their new world most of the time.
And just like what others has pointed out, the real Subaru parent are still searching for their son even until now. The mother even blaming herself so bad coz she was the last person who met him. She thought that Subaru took his own live somewhere & she's grieving everyday because of it.

after subaru went issing(got transportet to lugunica) the parents ordered an investigation from the police to find him (which they never did ) and now they blame themselves for subaru leaving them (which obviosly impacted them heavily
Now this, is one of the wholesome yet heartbreaking moment on Anime. The conversation with his mom and dad so so so umph..i love that moment
This is it, The best episode. Subarus dad is so wonderful.
It is said till this day subarus parents search for him... But no luck.... The dad tries his best to cheer up the mom but its sad subaru will never return and they don't know hes alive or not
You should probably stop thinking about why Subaru was chosen. He's not the chosen one or particularly special. So there's no satisfying answer there, besides this story is still going and the most burning questions haven't been answered.

Your instrumental with the vocals of the guys from Survive said the prophets (The guys who did the Vinland Saga OP) would be such a good song. We can only dream.

According to the writer (it's not in the LNs) his parents are still searching for him back home.

Amazing how this concept has spread throughout the anime community and become a common concept.
This episode was so emotional.
To clarify how tragic this is and why suabru reacted the way he did
If he at some point gets back to his world he would have to leave emilia, rem and all the other people he loves behind
If he stays in the new world he wont ever make it back to his parents.
So no matter the outcome its judt tragic and sad.
7:53 in the books, the series is based off, it was made pretty clear during the scene that Subaru has very strong, romantic feelings toward both of them at this point in the story. it doesn’t make quite as much sense in the show, because certain scenes, especially relating to Rem, were cut when turning the books into an anime.
This is one of the most heartbreaking eps in re zero
Did you guys see the first and second OVAs yet? They're meant to be watched after the first season and Are relevant to it as well. They're called Re:Zero: Memory Snow and Re:Zero: Frozen Bonds
Re Zero at its best! It's funny how for a isekai fantasy anime, episodes of people just talking become some of the best episodes of the series.

Subaru was shut-in for 3 months....and after 3 months he was going to school first time... that's why his mom just wanted to know whether he hated the world or not that's why she asked the question........her screws are not loose.she just not wanted her son to hate the world.........and she also knew about his anxiety so she made a joke about b**tt h*le so she can cheer him up.....i don't know why you think everything in anime is senseless

In an Interview Re: Zero's Writer Said that in real world Subaru is missing from the day he was summoned to the fantasy world and his parents are finding him ....
