Just as a safety tip if you heat water in a microwave put a chopstick or something similar in the water. The way a microwave works it can end up "superheating" the water, where the temperature goes above boiling but still looks normal. If you touch the water at that point it can rapidly start to change states which is essentially a little explosion that can throw boiling water all over you.
The chopstick's rough surface helps to agitate the water as it heats up which prevents it from superheating.
