Thank you for making. The question of authenticity always does bother me so much. Is this possible for counselors to be authentic when teachers say to put on an act, and worse yet spew liberalism with each and every client bc they pay.

The summary at the end for me felt like the best of all worlds. I agree with you, we should be empathic and congruent as Carl Rogers mentions in his person centred approach while being open to the needs of the clients.
I personally also think that before you start direct confrontation and giving solutions, that the person must first have a good idea about who they themselves are and how they got to where they are now. If they do not dwell in the past and can handle criticism well then I guess it is good to switch to more direct approaches and either guide them to solutions through hypotheses together or by directly talking about it.
It can also save the client time if they are ready for solutions instead of looking to understand themselves.
For those who like to know where I am coming from. I speak from personal experience as a client and I am not a therapist. I have just started my applied psychology bachelor and so my opinion on the several approaches might change over time.
Have a nice day to all who read this! :)

I hope you've since corrected the typo. The summary was far from 'summery' ... although many would see a summery, mid-Western optimism in Rogers' outlook. 😊

Still better than Ellis or Fritz. The best was of course Erich Fromm with no debate possible.

I had to smile constantly (if understanding the speaker who hardly manages to get his teeth apart) All that criticism comes from people who obviously come from the 2/3 unable to feel empathy (Arno Gruen). The other third knows that it is possible in real world to do those things Rogers mentioned.
