I think Christy did a wonderful job running the baby Rhino mower! That mower did a great job not leaving a lot of bundled grass behind like most rotary mowers do. I especially like how you have the cover on the back of the mower so all the grass and brush rotate thru the blades multiple times getting chopped up smaller. Great Job Christy!! Tim does a great job too with the mowers as well so both of yall are amazing at what you do! Keep up the good work!
@@TractorTimewithTim I just love your videos especially the mower videos! I love to mow the lawn cause it keeps me relaxed and watching your mowing videos is just so much more satisfying and relaxing!
Christy did a great job for her first time running a hog. I sometimes leave mine on after running the ditches and do the lawns with mine too. The Rhino looked good on the back of Johnny Tim & Christy. I was doing exactly that today - recovering my property after months of rain. What a job still left. It really helps to lift the brush hog and mow over and bring it down.
Christy that was great. Not having operated one of these myself I found your commentary so helpful. I’m so used to watching Tim operate the tractor and didn’t realize all the little things he’s always doing or thinking about that makes it look so easy. With you onboard you’re talking through the things a novice like me will need to learn.
You did a great job! I love it when I can get my wife on the tractor and one of the things I tell her is to go as fast as she is comfortable, don't try to go as fast as I go. Speed will come with experience and comfort. Keep on cutting.
I love my baby 4' brush mower. I don't get a chance to use it much, but it's fun when I do get to use it. Good stuff, I love this type of video, thanks!
Glad you commented about appearing closer than you were. Rotary cutters can and do make projectiles of hard objects. But you cleared that up nicely, just as Christy did that field!
Great job Christy. I showed my wife how to run the backhoe. Now nothing is safe around the yard. Out with the old and in with all new trees and shrubs.
We bought a L3901 for the family farm to replace a slightly aging 8N. My wife wanted to drive it a couple of years ago. It had a 5’ rotary cutter on it and she wanted to cut something. Her brother said go mow the fire break. There are 397 acres there so she took off. Her first time ever on a tractor. About an hour later we are wondering if she is ok. She was so far away we couldn’t even hear her. She didn’t come back for over 2 hours. I asked her where she was and she said I have no idea. She didn’t come back the same way she left either. She was covered in dust. She said she figured out how to use the loader because a tree had fallen across the fire break and blocked her path. She had a ball that day. Good times!
Ms. Christy, You know that machine is training for the bigger outfit. You be doing the Home farm before you know it. Then there is the big winged mower. Yup I can see a new channel "Crankin' with Christy" in my cracked crystal ball. Seriously thank you for being the Better Half of this channel. God bless you both.
I always go out and cut the lower limbs off the trees I am going to mow around and any "droopers"! I just have a zero turn but I get the job done! Good job Christy! It is a lot of fun clearing and looking back at what you accomplished!
I've read thru all the comments and didn't see anyone really mention this, but one disadvantage of a bush hog style mower for taking out brush, is that it can leave spikes that can cause flat tires if you're subsequently going to be going back across this area with vehicles that have tires. Either leave the stumps a little long, so they fold over, or take them all the way to the ground. The latter being easier said than done with a rotary cutter. We had a cow pasture when I was growing up that had gotten overgrown with brush/small trees, and I remember Dad having to constantly fix (mostly) front tires on the Farmall 560 that he was using on the 6 ft. Woods rotary cutter. After a while of this, he started using the front end loader that was attached on it as a wanna-be dozer blade to take them out slightly below ground. I will say few things gave him as much satisfaction as being able to root out small trees with that outfit. He would have really been better off with a tracked skid-steer, but we didn't have one.
Awesome video! Stuck in bed sick. Enjoyed seeing you play with the new toy. I hate mmm. I am going to rear finish mower for same reason you learn that you can back right into spots mmm cant. Not to mention, i just like the big old rear mowers. Stay well.
Hi Christy, You did a great job mowing. I believe, after looking at the trees that you were trying to mow around, that I would have walked around with either a small handsaw, or a small cordless chainsaw and first trimmed the trees. Then for all the branches that were left on the ground, they could have been chopped up by the cutter. It would have eliminated so much backing. But it looked great after your mowing.
Tim, I think Miss Christy will be doing more tractor jobs and putting YOU behind the camera. Miss Christy, good to see you in the drivers seat. Learning the curve to use a rotary mower will take a while. No worries.
It's actually pretty amazing what that little 1025r will do! I continue to be super impressed ! Not that it matters but the 5R/6R with the command arm the seat swivels a full 30 deg towards the rear. It's supper nice for running a rotary mower in these type front and back type operations.
Just bought a 2017 1025R with 80hrs, 60D autoconnect and a new 120R loader. Traded in my X590 with mechanical tiller, rear pto and 3pt was main reason for trading. Very excited to get it. Gonna get a Countyline (TSC) tiller for it. Thanks for the videos that helped me decide if trading was gonna be worth it!!!!
It would sure be nice if the 1025R had a front PTO so you could push a rotary cutter out in front rather than having to turn around like that to operate it. I agree with Christy, I get a headache and neckache doing the mowing/clearing this way. I also hate riding sidesaddle as my knees hit the key turning off the tractor or light switch all the time turning the lights on. Her concern about the lights on the ROP are well founded. I managed to eventually knock both off of mine. I just drilled new holes in the ROP and remounted them rather than doing the rewiring and $80 for each new light! Glad she had a good time using the rotary mower. I have a Frontier cutter and it works as well as your Rhino.
Excellent demo Christy! I'm in touch with the neck thing! I have severe stenosis in my neck so I can't do backwards for very long. I have the 1025R and love the ease of hydrostatic transmission. I have a 4' "cutter" so I don't think it is a true bush hog, but I can take down briars very well in my fence row. What I can't get with the cutter I can get with the loppers or my little battery powered chainsaw which I carry in my bucket. If it looks too big I just stop, get off, and use one of the other tools. It will take me a while to get it done, but I just work on it when I can. I'm lovin my little tractor and attachments and thanks to Tim I think I chose well. Thanks again, this old woman is living large! lol

Apologies to Christy for misspelling your name all of this time LOL Awesome job Christy! That Rhino does a great job. Excellent video....."Tractor Time with Christy" LOL Thanks guys.
Tim! Out here in California, Contractors use a lot of Skiploader's, tractor with loader and Gannon box blade. They use them for Asphalt work, fine grading base, and clean ups. They say if you get invited over to an Equipment operators home, you'll know he,s a Skiploader operator if his Flat Screen TV is mounted Behind his Sofa ! HA...
Very helpful video. My wife is a little intimidated by my 5103JD and 6ft bush hog. We have been looking at a second tractor and are torn between Ventrac and a 2038JD. Thanks Tim
I guess that that little chain is supposed to stop the PTO shaft cover from spinning with the shaft. Also I didn't realize you are supposed to separate the two parts of the PTO shaft on occasion so they don't freeze up.....until I happened upon a video. I wanted to reuse my cutter drive shaft for a generator but there are measurements to be made to see if it will work.
Tim my jd513 mower is Quick hitch compatible it has a float system built into the mower but I also after I'm hooked up replace the top link on the tractor with a homemade link made out of chain that lets the mower float really good 😊
You would think all compact tractors came with stock ( or optional ) skid plates / under belly brush pans. I have seen many a video [ no personal experience ] of fans, wiring, hoses and filters damaged by branches and tree stubs. Nice hair cut Tim - Christy you don't trust Tim to cut yours ( you do have beautiful red locks ). Fun video take care
It takes a while to get used to using the wrong foot. Interesting you mention about the seats on an angle, that's how they are in dozers, fixed at about 5° to the right as half the operation is done in reverse.
Christy, I think you did a fine job and you're right, it is a bit different getting used to backing the tractor with a rotary cutter but you did fine. I have a 4 foot rotary cutter and it's so nice to get into small areas. You're right, sometimes the louder noise from thicker brush does get your attention but just keep on cutting. I think for me, the constant turning makes my neck hurt. wouldn't it be nice that the steering system could be placed in the rear so you could drive over it in a forward drive. The cleared area looks really good. You two are a great team and enjoyed watching you guys have fun. Enjoyed a full watch. Have a fine Friday and upcoming weekend.
If it were me I'd spend a day or two umbrellaing the trees. Little work for that would save hours over the mowing season. Some good pruning shears and an electric pole saw would make quick work of that.I've also sprayed the base of trees with round-up or generic: stops saplings and haven't killed a non-targeted tree or bush yet.
Great job! I broke off my turn signal light the second time I mowed with my tractor. Looks like a lot of people actually move the lights to the inside of the ROPS. Wouldn't work if you use a backhoe, but not a bad idea if you don't.
At least one third, and up to 1/2 of our episodes are 1025r related. Maybe not exclusively, but the 1025r is shown. We do our best. However, there are some tasks and attachments that are simply too big for Johnny. We feel that this is educational as well...what is TOO big? BTW, another 1025r video coming Sunday...with an attachment that should be considered TOO BIG!
I bought the Frontier RC48 with my 1025R from John Deere in 2015. I have used it a few times in heavy brush with no issues. But it is down now because I jamed the forks on my loader under the disk gard that the blades mount to. And bent it severely. So using the forks to put it away not a good idea. Cost to fix it will run between $180 & $300 depending on if I can get the blades off or not. I broke a 3/4 drive break over bar already. Deere said they use a 1" impact to change the blades.
The back of the cutter being closed makes cutting saplings much more difficult. My Frontier is open in the front and back. The rear plate appears to be bolted in place so removing that and replacing it with chains will make it a lot more effective when cutting saplings.
Not sure about the solid rear shield, especially for backing maneuvers. I think a chain shield would work better in this situation. Then again, the solid shield will probably allow the mower to "mulch" things up better and possibly keep the mower from spitting things out the back better.
That was a great job , my son has a 2503 ( borrow for firewood ) maybe it could do a job like this >good video . Have to find one of those up here in Canada . Great video
I prefer to turn left to see behind me, while my right leg and foot are still in the same place! I'm right handed, that might be why I prefer to turn left. Great videos especially the one with the Forrester Grinder ( I think it's called ), I want one!
So I go to pick up some parts for my GT235 garden tractor at my local John Deere dealer. Due to social distancing, the parts guys bring your order out to your vehicle. When they came back with my debit card and invoice, they also give me a free bag of "Johnny Pop" microwave popcorn. Didn't even know there was such a thing.
Great job Christy! I got Denise on our tractor and she also was timid at first but gained confidence the more she drove. The top link is funny looking swinging back and forth with the up and down of the 3 point. Is there an engineering reason for that? TTWC Looks good in print.
Yes. For a brush mower, there must be slack in the top link connection so that you can go ‘uphill’ while the mower is down. Each brand uses a different approach. The disadvantage of this one is that it makes the mower NON quick hitch compatible.
Christy did just fine. I didn't think she was going too slow. Yeah, turning around is a real pain in the neck! I use a canopy on my Kubota L3301HST, and I mounted a big truck side mirror under the front of the canopy so I don't have to turn around as often. I'll usually still turn around when I'm backing up in tight quarters like that, but at least I don't need to turn around to see what's happening behind the tractor. I don't have a lot of trees on my property, so I can keep the ROPS up and canopy on all the time. That wouldn't work for y'all. I think that left-foot driving is probably easier with Johnny's pedals vs. the weirdo pedal on my Kubota.
They should add an option on compact and sub-compact tractors where the seat can pivot to allow for easier over-the-shoulder operations. Also, y'all's cats kill me, they'd be dead 100 times over down here. ;P
Another thought: I would hope this mower has a slip clutch, that would trip if a person tries to tackle something to severe to protect the rest of the driveline. I know our Woods did, as well as the later 15' batwing mower that we would use behind a 1086 IH. Word to the wise: make sure the slip clutch still works and hasn't rusted itself together after awhile.
Tim I noticed an extra piece on your mower. It’s on the top of the three point hitch, attached to the mower. I understand what it is for and how it works, but Did you add this piece or did it come with the mower. I can see where this would help when you are mowing small hilly ground. Looks like it would take a lot of pressure off the back wheel.
As always, we love your videos. We have recently added a 1025r to our little fleet. We'll most likely be getting a rotary cutter...(see our vids, we mow a lot!) Don't you also have a differently branded cutter? Would be nice to see a comparison. Take care and, btw...great job Christy!
TTWC, will that be future channel? But Christy, you will have to load the tractor on the trailer, chain down and haul to jobsite. Ready for that challenge?
I think Christy did a wonderful job running the baby Rhino mower! That mower did a great job not leaving a lot of bundled grass behind like most rotary mowers do.
When you will release the Gaspardo Giraffa video, will you please point out the differences between flail and rotary mower. Thanks Tim!
Giraffina ...and it is coming Sunday.
@@TractorTimewithTim Well that makes perfect sense.
Good Video
Greats from Germany👋
I run a 6’ Rhino behind a NH Boomer 50. It works really good
Christy did just fine.
Good job Christy
She did a good job!!!!!! AAA+
They should add an option on compact and sub-compact tractors where the seat can pivot to allow for easier over-the-shoulder operations.
Also, y'all's cats kill me, they'd be dead 100 times over down here. ;P
Flat ground, ROPS down (leaned back horizontal) would make working in the trees much easier.
Yes, it has a slip clutch
Tim I noticed an extra piece on your mower. It’s on the top of the three point hitch, attached to the mower. I understand what it is for and how it works, but Did you add this piece or did it come with the mower. I can see where this would help when you are mowing small hilly ground. Looks like it would take a lot of pressure off the back wheel.
It is standard feature of mower.
Tim, I think Christy was hinting that you need a bi-directional tester on the channel!
Good job Chrissy
Tim I think Christy going to do more yard work with little Johnny. I think Christy need a cheeseburger she did a great job 🍔🍔🍔🍔
I have a two point hitch Bush hog on my four wheeler that has a PTO drive. That thing is almost like having a Johnny
I knocked one of those lights off my Johnny last week. They're easy to forget about once.
As always, we love your videos. We have recently added a 1025r to our little fleet. We'll most likely be getting a rotary cutter...(see our vids, we mow a lot!) Don't you also have a differently branded cutter? Would be nice to see a comparison. Take care and, btw...great job Christy!
Good Job‼️👏👏
Good job! Made it look easy. One view made the mower look like it was driving the tractor some?!?
I don’t think so. Johnny seemed to be in full command. Now, in Sunday’s upcoming video with another attachment, you may see that!!
Good job
TTWC, will that be future channel? But Christy, you will have to load the tractor on the trailer, chain down and haul to jobsite. Ready for that challenge?
