I would like too, but the Win file browser is way better than the Linux file browser. I tried to do simple tasks, as I would do with the Win browser, did not work. E. g. to add a column with "mp3".
@@tyrewald9083 simply not true. Ubuntu may be the most beginner friendly distribution, but I can assure you that a simple "mkdir" will create a new folder in any linux distribution. Some of the gui functions are thinner in linux, but that's the point. Once you're comfortable on the cli, it's not even a comparison for customization options.
I should add that in enterprise environments, especially remote desktop oriented operations, Windows is definitely the most user friendly and Administration friendly.
@@MrDaddyv123 Using a file browser is quicker, than the cli. You can do most things on the cli, as it was common 30yrs ago. Nowadays a file browser and gui are standard. It is all about a smooth and fast work flow. That is the reason of the enormous success of MS! Otherwise most people would use Linux seemingly without cost. I completed a Linux course, but use Linux just now and then.
Please ignore all the negative people who critisize your videos, Your delivery, presentation and full explainations of how to do things have been my lifesaver when it comes to learning new things. Incredibly helpful. As someone both Dyslexic and operating w/ ADHD it can becoming challenging to find resources formatted in digestible manners. Everything suggested here is exactly that, thank you.
I took your Vague advice and started using it as my Daily Driver and I've learned so much by doing that. That's honestly what I'd tell people if they asked me how to learn. but then again there are other baselines, if that doesn't satisfy you, you could always for instance watch RUclips Videos about it but lets be honest NOTHING teaches as effectively as making the deep dive. -sent from ubuntu 20.10.
Man, you're videos are so good. I've been looking for good resources that will work for me for a while and you've just packed them all up for me in a nice video.
One of the most helpful videos I've seen on starting with Linux. While being very tech savvy, was never really interested in learning Linux until recently. And by learning Linux I don't mean how to install a popular newbie distro and navigate around the default DE, which is what most "linux for beginners" videos are about. As you said yourself, thank you for pointing to the right resources.
Amazing. I now have a lot of material to go through. I appreciate you compiling this. I just Installed Linux Mint, wiping my hard drive, took the plunge, and have been using it for about a week now. Looking forward to studying your recommendations! It felt pretty good being able to fix my "broken" live boot flash drive by manually unmounting, etc etc. Until I had a working USB drive again. And then promptly flashed Manjaro to it and put it on my laptop. I'm officially done with Windows.
one big tip I have is to strive to make things better. If you feel some task, system, or some component of the Linux universe ( including open source software ) is unnecessarily difficult, I find it helpful to assume "there's gotta be a better way". Turns out, tons of people all over the planet have already gone through the frustration. There's probably a solution, or at least it's documented well enough to save you weeks of time. Not only that, but the system's guts are exposed. It is whatever you want it to be. Tools you didn't even know you needed are one sudo apt-get away. So there are tons of little tips to learn and nuggets of wisdom to spread, but if you just remember that solutions are just a Google search away you are set for life. oh and please back up your dotfiles.
I'm going to disappear for a year, cut out all the social events, toxic friends, etc. will comeback to this comment in a year in a linux OS in the middle of creating bash scripting for automating Network devices for a company which im in charge of. I'm manifesting this. I owe it to myself.
If you're serious, then what you can accomplish is only limited by what you lack. But "disappearing" sounds like that could be pretty bad for your mental.
I have read lots of books and learn theory then spend hours to know how to practice all those things....now I got your video and it feels this is something that I was searching for...
For a long time I was thinking of tutoring students about Linux basics like how can you get started with it, If anyone of you are interested then reply to this comment. Thanks.🙂🙂
In 2017 , as Linux Cinnamon became popular , i forced myself to buy a separate ssd , clone my windows 7 onto it and install the Cinnamon , and learnt the basics etc , i am still nowhere as skilled and knowledgable as Windows 7 , but I have no regrets and never looked back - I love Cinnamon . 🧐🇬🇧🤔👍🏻🤝❤️
Thanks for this video, I've gone through the first book and part of the second book. I think that, The Linux Command Line 2nd edition, is also a great book to get started with.

Hi, I'm new. Just installed Ubuntu. Is your version better and if so why? I plan to use it for my base OS. I want a really secure system and need to learn to lock it down. Do I need to buy security software? Ty!
Thank you for the great video, while I have to admit that it would be better to add subtitles to the video, which is very convenient for people who do not speak English as their native language.
One of the hardest parts about learning things on your own isn't *learning* it, its learning *how* to learn it. Cheers man
❤
Yeah, well said.
Usually School exists to do that. But most of the time, you don’t learn how to learn but it has lay out the syllabus for you
@BeachBoi1000 i think the point was you dont know what questions to ask if you dont know where to start in the first place
About 10 years ago I forced myself to install only Linux and simply figure it out. Best choice ever. I'll never look back.
I would like too, but the Win file browser is way better than the Linux file browser. I tried to do simple tasks, as I would do with the Win browser, did not work. E. g. to add a column with "mp3".
