    This analysis fails to see some key points. For starters it fails to recognize China’s need for a consistent supply of energy from west Asia as it challenges American dominance. The saudis and the other Persian gulf states are puppets of America that will cut their energy supplies if the Americans ask them to but, Iran is not a client state of America and can fully cover chinas energy needs. Also, the importance of Iran’s influence in the region and it’s reach which is a great asset Iran can share with China. Although Iran’s situation is bad it is nothing they haven’t dealt with before. Over 42 years of sanctions and the United States hasn’t broken the will of Iran and they’re not about to sell of their country as result of 4 years of pressure.

In reality, China is keen on minimizing it's energy dependence, as is evident from the fact that it is moving heavily towards hydroelectric projects in Tibet. The Tibetan projects are also a strategic move since those rivers later drain into other south asian countries. Energy supply from Iran in this respect can be useful perhaps, but not necessary at all as of now.

    In terms of building major infrastructure projects, China possesses a key advantage that Germany, the UK, United States could not compete with. For example, if an African state is about to build an airport, it seeks to secure a complete solution - from the building of the airport to the whole electronics - cockpit electronics / air traffic control electronics, elevators, communication devices, and so on. A German company can’t provide the windows of the airport, the semi-manufactured parts, but only the high-tech end products such as cockpit / air traffic control electronics, for example. On the other hand, the Chinese companies are vertically and horizontally well-connected to offer complete solutions, very quickly, and price-efficiently. And this is exactly the thing the developing economies are looking for.

    You missed the real thing.
    China asked the Saudi to sell them oil in yuan, they refused. If they did they would've opened a flood gate of others selling oil for Yuan. That's a death blow to the USD. The USD is the only thing keeping the US afloat. Demand on USD gives them the opportunity not to repay their debts and keep borrowing forever. I can't explain this simply but that means the US will have a hard time borrowing and if they can it will be for a small amount with higher interest rates.
    This means they won't be able to sustain high deficits except if they start borrowing from the fed which in the case of limited external borrowing will make the USD rather shaky and will trigger high inflation immediately.
    All that, for a good relationship with Iran.

    • @FeralAkamaru
      @FeralAkamaru 3 года назад +7

      This comment is extremely misleading. China's current relationship with Iran has little to nothing to do with Saudi Arabia's upkeep of the current status quo. FYI Saudi Arabia gave rise to the petrodollar.
      Also, demand for the USD provides exclusive liquidity and makes the US center of the financial world. Introducing the yuan as a international currency DOES NOT automatically mean 'US will have a hard time borrowing' as US trade partners who have USD reserves will continue to invest back into the US. It simply erodes the exclusive liquidity the US currently enjoys.
      Borrowing from the US federal reserve aka what's funding the stimulus packages, does not make the 'USD rather shaky' nor 'trigger high inflation immediately'. Seems you don't really understand MMT.

    • @walid7885
      @walid7885 3 года назад +28

      @@FeralAkamaru Absolutely not misleading, You're out of your depth.
      Creating a precedent for selling Saudi oil in Yuan will entice others to do the same. There will be less demand for the dollar. The petro Dollar is what made the dollar after dropping the gold standard.
      Less demand for Dollar will force the US to increase its Bonds rate. The US is already in constant deficit for decades, this will increase the deficit even further and will trigger more borrowing. With more dollars floating around, the US will have to pay that 8% eventually. That's 2 trillion in interest every year.
      But it's not over. The US can't get by just paying interest. Lenders will ask for capital as well. So more money/year to pay.
      Borrowing from the fed because you can't get enough cash will make more dollars available and thus inflation will creep in. Interest rates exist for a reason, they are a mechanism that will stop you from borrowing ad infinitum.

    • @FeralAkamaru
      @FeralAkamaru 3 года назад +8

      @@walid7885 Completely and utterly misleading, written in an extremely convoluted manner by someone who pretends to understand the global status quo and USD.
      Lets clarify, the dropping of the gold standard in favour of USD at the time enabled the USD to used as a means of settlement for trade. Saudi Arabia was the first nation to accept USD in exchange for Oil. This acceptance led to the petrodollar.
      You must live under a rock to think Saudi Arabia would even consider trading oil in another currency. Not only is the USD the world's foreign reserve and the settlement for global trade, antagonizing the US and by extension its allies, results in economic disaster for a smaller nation. Look at Iran, look at Russia, look at North Korea, their economies are literally garbage. They gravitate towards China because what's the alternative for them?
      So again, your comment is utterly misleading and this video has not 'missed the real thing'. You've just decided to go on a tangent about the petrodollar.

    I don’t think Iran is just a bargaining chip for China. In, fact, bringing Iran into its orbit, securing and strengthening economic, cultural, diplomatic and military ties and making sure it serves mutual interests could make it the best mid and long term investment China has ever made in its entire history. If played out well, China would not only gain energy security and advantage of low priced hydrocarbons, it could stretch its influence in so many different directions, secure markets and gain leverage it has never had before. The best prize about Iran isn’t it’s hydrocarbons, it is it’s geography and political and cultural influence. It stretches to Central Asia, Caucasus, Indian Ocean and deep into the Middle East. And it’s not the military influence, it’s soft power that means a lot more in this day and age.

As well as Chinese companies getting first dips and discounts. Which will likely flood Iran with chinese businesses and keep competition out. And I’m sure it will be the chinese themselves building these projects instead of Iranians.

      The problem here is the actual "will to help"
      Helping Iran in the current Middle East situation means to piss off half the Persian Gulf, Israel and Turkey, every one of which has got promises from Beijin for economic investments and political help.
      As CaspianReports has well put out in this video, Pakistan has still to see any benefits form China's involvement since the late seventies, while the economical alliance has benefit China greatly in it's geopolitical struggle with India.
      The whole "East Europe" promises were left mostly void, but strengthened Beijin greatly in softening up the EU will in supporting the USA administration politics. Central Africa has been laid waste from the eighties, after China took overt the post colonial nations as main export and investment source, as all these nation got nothing except for the corrupted politicians that were selling off their land in exchange for rich dividends. China will just bring to Iran workers, technicians, and whatever needed and will probably move whatever is the production by 100% owned Chinese companies, exactly as it did in Thailand in the last two decades: there will be very little left for the Iranian workers except for the rents the Chinese government will pay for exploiting your natural resource. Compare this Chinese manufacturing model with what Japan has done in Thailand in regards with Cars and Opto-electronics manufacturing.
      The whole Iranian affair seems to me more like a warning to many other nations in a time of plummeting oil prices and geopolitical struggle in the area, as Beijin is at the time among the main player in the oil commerce in the world.
      What I question is the actual will from Beijin to back up promises, especially in the light of the "Soft Currency" deal which could at, any time, become a leverage from China to get "more" or deliver "less" at the same prices if needed.
      The political weakness and economic troubles of Iran today doesn't let me see the deal as strengthening the Iran position right now as one of the two signers is so much weaker and desperate, while the other is known to be less then reliable when it comes to "Deliver" what was actually been discussed. It is the worst possible partnership you can have if your only foreseeable option is deal with a superpower well known for it's ruthlessness in the exploit weaker nations.
      Iran is in big troubles because unless it set it's mind into actually better integrate in the current geopolitical politics (something we saw briefly happening around 2015) it could become the next china's courtyard, like Nepal, Pakistan, Central Africa, Bangladesh, Thailand and Laos. You may not like the "western world" model, but sometimes it's better to deal with someone who has a "flawed moral" (or at least have the option to) then become 100% dependent from someone who doesn't have any moral at all: at least you know where you stand.

That is why China is able to dodge Trumps tariffs to easily, they just make their products up to 95% completion in China and then ship them to their Vietnamese business to complete them and export to the USA tariff free. Likewise with Nigeria, public opinion is irrelevant when the ruling classes are on side and huge amounts of the nations key infrastructure and national resources is owned by China.
      Much in the same way that European leaders who dislike American foreign policy must toe the line anyway to guarantee their security developing nations who dislike Chinese policy must do likewise to ensure economic stability and growth. Power begets power and right now China has no shortage of the stuff due to representing the majority of the worlds manufacturing concerns.
      Additionally due to the risk averse nature of western investors there is no competition for investment in the third world leaving entire nations with only one potential source of investment, China. By dismissing the entire continent of Africa as nothing more than a charity case the west has handed China one of the worlds most resource rich continents on a silver fucking platter, along with a huge and surprisingly skilled labour force.
      China has no plans to remain just the worlds biggest factory forever. They fully intend to escape the middle income trap and become a service economy like the nations of the west. Russia is normal about this. Because Iran is a partner of Russia , as well as China, most of the different routes of the silk road pass through Russia. And now Russia Iran and India are building a new silk road of goods From India to Russia and Europe through Iran the Route is called North South

      Considering they've been sanctioned to shit as well and are competing with OPEC they're probably going to fall in the same hole as the Iranians, perhaps with a little more to say considering their larger power.

    Could we ever see a video about CANZUK: A proposed freedom of movement agreement between Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK? The proposal also calls for a grander vision, with aspirations of joint economic and military co-operation between the nations, and is being touted as a potential "superpower". What are the challenges the alliance will face? What are the pros and cons? And could such an alliance reshape global geopolitics?

    • @byHeaLiiAU
      @byHeaLiiAU 4 года назад +9

      CANZUK being a 'superpower' is an England centric pipedream. Relations will be closer but it will never be something even close how centralized the EU is (which is a very decentralized union). All 4 countries have extremely different interests and there certainly isnt a movement in Australia for it to happen. We, again, have our own interests in our own reigon. Our culture has diverged more and more from England and we are very, very close to the USA now.
      Maybe in the 1960s such a thing would be possible, but nah
