That makes us 2

in most of the questions I've just lied
because it doesn't test how truthfully you are , but it tests your speaking coherence and fluency :)

I guess, the main things in the speaking is fluency and confidence.
I don't know, because he wanted to say many things at the same time and choked on words all the time, as well as his poor pronunciation

Got my IELTS score today. Got an 8.5 in speaking Woot! Woot!
Shruti Singh i think my English is good enough however i hear people saying 6 is the average, so could you share how you got 8.5 please, i would really appreciate it!
Hi Lisa, I will share with you what I shared with someone yesterday in another video.
First of all, a lot of people say a lot of things about the dos and don'ts of Speaking Test. Some things are common sense and some are on the borderline of 'being-too-careful'.
To answer your question - I didn't prepare shit! I just went and improvised while being calm as a Hindu cow! That was my plan. But, I will tell you a few "unconventional" things I did during my speaking.
1. I didn't understand a question which the examiner had asked, so I asked her to repeat. There's no biggie if you ask an examiner to repeat or paraphrase a question if you didn't understand it the first time.
2. I even asked for a few seconds (4-5 seconds, actually) to think before answering another question I didn't have an immediate answer to.
3. My examiner asked me another question and the answer I gave was more or less along the same lines of an answer I had given on a previous question.
Here's what I think of a Speaking test - it is like having a televised interview with a talk show host. Just walk in with calm nerves, smile on your face, make sure your grammar is intact, your rate of speech is normal, your accent is understandable, your content is decent, and you will make it!
Good luck!
Shruti Singh thank you very much I really appreciate your help!
Congrats. Can you point me to some sites for preparation. Study material
Hi Eshwar! Hope you have read my comment above on preparation. I literally didn't prepare a bit for IELTS and I got 7.5 because I am naturally good in English since school. But I feel that if you practice all the mocks from the book you receive from IELTS after you register, that should be sufficient. After scoring an overall of 7.5, I wouldn't say IELTS is easy. I would probably have scored an overall of 8 if I wasn't sick with fever and having a hard time in the chilled center!
I found Speaking and Listening to be the easiest sections. I have 7.5 in listening. I missed out on some words, I wasn't listening too carefully. Just listen carefully and you will ace it. Basically, you will be told a story and given a page with missing words. You just have to write down the missing words in the blanks. It's easy! They speak in British accent, btw.
In writing, I received a 7. I am not impressed by it, I knew I could have done better. I didn't pay enough attention to the two graphs given on a question, and so my content suffered. That's my guess.
Reading was the area I struggled with a lot! I scored only 6. I left many questions unanswered because I was all confused and all over the place. My tip here would be to definitely practice your reading skills, because the passages are lengthy and questions are plenty.
One final thing I have noticed is that you can't afford to waste a second on real time exam. So, timed mock practices would be a good idea.
Practice your weak area a few times, go through the IELTS format for each section and believe in your ability. You can ace it!
Good luck!
two beers would be useful before taking speaking test :D
I swear man.....

I doubt it
“The drink brings back all the memory-“ nah I don’t think this phrase applies here
Having studied languages myself and teaching EFL, I can tell you that it is all in the preparation! You prepare your answers for a job interview and you do the same for any exam written or spoken: you prepare topics ( vocabulary and whole statements).
I was listening to this 2 hours before my speaking exam. Results came today, I got 8 bands overall and in Speaking! So thankful to this video

@Matin _T Clearly he knows how to speak english, and has an "ok" vocabulary. The problem is, that he is spanish, i dont know why, but spanish and asians, they just dont give a fuck about pronunciation, they all speak like that, like rafa nadal, i dont see that in other spanish speaking countries like Southamerica. I guess the spanish accent is harder to get rid off than the castellano accent.
@@senshit5183 The Spanish accent from Spain is the original Castellano accent. But it is not hard to get rid off, they just don't make as much of an effort, perhaps because they have less of an influence from the American culture.
And his accent was terrific
Senshi T we care about pronunciation, the problem is that it’s quite difficult to us.
you have to say always "HMMM, THAT IS AN INTRESTING QUESTION"

This guy nailed it. This is absolutely the best speaking interview I have seen so far.
I took my ielts speaking test today and the person was the coolest instructor ever . It felt like I was actually conversing with him . It was so breezy and I did not feel like I was in a test . It went really well than I thought . I think there is a lot of hype around this speaking and if you are a decent English speaker , it should be easy . I am not a native speaker and I prepared for a day . I was also extremely scared before the test but did not turn out like that .
Let’s see how I fare .
Akshaya Duraiswamy When you get your result tell me how much you got I will tell you mine
You mean "decent" as a person with good manners and morals?
facebook.com/106577474560013/posts/106595144558246/
How did you fare?
@@user-eo3kd5sj6k No - decent here means 'good' or 'better than average'. It's a common usage in spoken English. Depending on the intonation it can mean 'okay but not great' or 'better than average'. It's quite a tricky word to be honest.
Great Exam Teacher I ever watch❤️ love the way she receive him. And when the 2nd part starts she didn't look at him all time. I think just for not to confuse him, bcz this part is so crucial for anybody. Simply amazing.
Accent has nothing to do with you speaking as long as you are understandable, main think is content which you have spoke and he has used some good complex sentences with wide variety of vocabulary.
Don't mean to be negative but I don't think he uses much complex sentences and wide variety of vocab at all, much less than what I would expect from a and 8.5-9.
His sentences are not complex. Terrible pronunciation and too much am uh hhh ammm things
If you have accent, you are going to cooler 😂😂
Accent is coolest thing in language
yes it does
main thing* ?
I don't understand why the complexity of sentence structures is a grading standard. My sentences can be simple and rich in meanings at the same time. I don't make my sentences complex just for the sake of being complex and native speakers of English don't do that either.
杜嘉偌 what other options do they have to make sure you actually know and can use those structures? I guess this is the only explanation for this criterion.
I am currently preparing for CPE and my tutor tells me I have to use inversions even in the first part when they ask me about my street and my job) that is ridiculous of course
Yeah unfortunately we are not native English speakers so we have to take these tests even if they can be rediculous.
I think is not about complex words, it's about using complex structures
just because points...
probably you misunderstood the meaning of complexity. The simple sentence represent something like ' i like eat chicken. i like eat fish' and actually you could just say i like eat chicken and fish'. The complex sentence structure is a thing to show you have ability to express your idea effectively rather than a mean to show off your understanding of complexity of sentence structure.
It's outstanding performance! He definitely deserves a 9. Accent is not that important when you can use so many complicated structures without hesitation.
He did really well. I think he was able to express himself and show depth in that short span of time. The interviewer also was very good and responsive.
In spite of his Spanish accent, He did pretty well. After watched him I'm more nervous than last week. I don't feel capable to think in such a fast manner. Even thought he made normal pauses to recall past events, he speak like a native..
right? his answers were quick and perfect and made so much sense, i tried answering these questions myself and you can't imagine how bad/unconnected it was ..
Yeah, same here. Although I like to think my English is excellent, I still have problems speaking for an IELTS exam knowing the person who's sitting across me is judging my use of language. It's frustrating..
Yeah...his only problem is his accent. Other stuff are all perfect... WIth better accent, he must got 9. But I have both accent and bad frequency...so nervous
He has a thick accent and his sentences structures are very simple and though he clearly speaks good English, he is far away from reaching out native level, don't get me wrong, not only did he have a great composure but also is very smart and overall not too many grammatical mistakes, however still have a lot to improve in terms of more complex thoughts to share and being able to convey his ideas in a more precise way maybe through help of phrasal verbs.Anyhow great score man, congrats
Your comment doesn't leave that much of an impact considering that ur grammar is all over the place. You gave good points to the guys to further improve on their speaking skills but I don't know if u were claiming to be a native in that first sentence there or were just trying to say that he isn't at a native level yet :/
He could be 8..he explain some terms very well and used a lot of academic language.. He is smart about answering the questions by explaining the situation better or elaborate it in an academic manner! Well done!!
ok
Powerful responses, I love some sentences 'the image of the wall coming down in Berli in 1989', 'We can not forget about the past even if we do want to concentrate on the future' Well-done Emmanuel Rico!
a lot can learn from his speaking, he is so calm and collected.
I find this test extremely biased and by no means it evaluates your ability to speak English, because some people are shy and they will get bad score on this even though they can speak and understand English to a very high level. In my opinion this test has much more to do with one's interpersonal communication skills and charisma than to his/her English level.
I guess if you want to pass the test you ought to come out of the cocoon 😊
+EstonianLad Agree
+Carolina Rocio hello i am looking someone to make practise on skype maybe? can we do that?
Arturest I agree with you on that;
but, I think one should be able to speak even in a nerve racking environment to survive in this world.
The point of the test is to check if you can communicate well enough to let people know what you want to say and your ability to understand what other people want to say to you. So it's not biased, if you are too shy it means you cannot communicate with people effectively when you move out of the country. You just need to work hard to speak clearly and forget about /who/ you are speaking to. Speak from your heart and you shall be fine. (This is coming from an introvert who worked really hard to get comfortable with talking to strangers during my IELTS prep)

As a native English Speaker, he definitely spoke well, lol. You guys who are critiquing his speaking I bet arent even native English speakers
Hi Nina Gordon. I was watching this video and reading the comments below. I like your comment as a native speaker on this video. To be honest with you, I struggled a lot to get a good mark in speaking in my previous exam attempts, I got like 5.5 and once 6.5. So I think that if I had the opportunity to speak to a native speaker like you it would help me a lot, so could you sacrifice some time and having a little chat with me from time to time? My name's Haytham from Sudan, working as a psychiatry doctor in KSA. looking forward to hearing from you and sorry for any inconvenience made by me.
Haytham Mekki Hi Haytham! You seem to speak well already, no need to be overly polite! Sure, we can chat together. We can chat via email, or here? You choose lol
Nina Gordon
I think I put too much concern on not making grammatical mistakes when talking in English, which in turn makes me stumble or pause inappropriately and ultimately affecting my performance in exam...I think this is related to personal traits of trying to be perfect or flawless..another factor is that when you are very good at your mother tongue language you always feel helpless or awkward in some way when trying to speak a foreign language, making comparison between the two is unfair and fruitless and even could hamper your progress in learning and mastering a new language. In my opinion the personal factors play an important role for any progress. .
Show quoted text
Haytham Mekki Ah, that does make sense ad definitely would hinder your progress. It's okay! Practice makes perfect. Eventually you will learn to speak very well - because you already know how to online or on paper: It's just the time it takes in real time that affects you. I suggest keep talking to people in real life in English, and it will definitely help you further your skills. Habits definitely can shape one person's life, and if you're unused to chatting or conversing with a person in real time, it can be difficult. However, that being said I'm sure you'll catch up quickly since you already know the English language pretty well, and you've already nailed the sophisticated parts of English (Grammar, complex language, colloquialism) :)
Nina Gordon well said. Thank you very much
I like this examiner, it's more like a communication, not just asking questions

He also speaks with natural intonation, thought groups and word and syllable stress, hence the high score.
Notice that during the last test (dialogue), the tester asks a question, and then stays silent. She doesn't give any audible reactions while the guys speaks, like mhmm, uh-huh, ah, etc.
I can see why he is graded 8.5 to 9. He speaks extensively with a lot of detailed vocabulary, grammar, good intonation, and uses many cohesive devices. He makes only a few minor grammatical errors.

For those people who complain about his accent and think he does not deserve a band score of 8. U should really read the criteria of marking again, there is nothing wrong with having an accent as long as you can be understood by the examiner. Ofcourse u will be assessed on how well your pronunaciation is but at least we can understand his speaking easily. With his fluency and wide range of vocabulary, he is absolutely fine to get a socre more than 8.
+PERCY BUTTONS Accent is acceptable but pronounciation is worse than his accent. That is a reason why people complaint it couldn't be a 8-9 mark.

I love his ideas, especially those in part 3
you can tell that people who get Band 9 are very intelligent. to me, the hardest part is to get such ideas and express them correctly in a spontaneous and natural way. plus, I get super nervous during speaking tests, so that doesn’t help. I admire their capability of remaining calm and generating good ideas while demonstrating their habilities
This guy was great :) I see what you mean by a "high achiever"- on first impressions it looks like he doesn't give s sh*t but when the conversation gets moving he allowed his true character into his responses and I found out he is deeply introspective. His words were a window into his thoughts- that's something I consider important when judging the English ability of another.
Hey guys I gave my speaking exams and successfully cleared it with flying colors and here are my questions
1. What's your name and where are you from?
2. Are you a student by profession ?
These were the introductory questions.
Part 1 :
1. What are your thoughts about " Smile "?
2. Can a smile be seen as a aid for a lot of individuals. If so why??
3. How can u differentiate between a fake smile and a real one.
( I don't recall all the questions. But one thing. Do prepare for certain psychological questions as well.)
Part 2 : Talk about a person who can speak a foreign language well
Part 3 : Questions related to Language :
1. How is learning a foreign language beneficial from your perspective.
2. What are the barriers that one might face ?
3. Some people say, that learning a foreign language requires a lot of effort. What u think?
4. Which foreign langauge is most spoken in your country ?
5. If 2 countries have the same foreign langauge, Does it mean that those two countries will have the same culture. ?
( I don't recall all, but I was asked around 10-12 questions in part 3. )
The speaking section is easy. The invigilator is also calm and friendly. Do maintain a positive posture and smile while answering. It stamps a greater impact on your result.

I guess maybe to grasp a nearly C1 level, one important thing is to live days and days in full English, everyday situation, i mean, reading, composing phrases when you talking to people at street, job, home, and when having your own life reflections on spare time. Just one more thing, we're all humans, life is always a learning adventure, and we somehow shere this very world.
