와 소미 진짜 부럽다 태어날 때부터 그냥 바로 국적 3개ㄷㄷ
영주권 따려고 아둥바둥하고 있고, 주변 친구들도 그런 문제로 스트레스 엄청 받고 있는데 새삼 진짜 부럽다...
유럽권에서는 쫌 흔한 일이지만 우리나라 연예인중에선 처음이긴하지 그리고 태어나도 3중국적을 허용하지않는 나라도 엄청 많음ㅋㅋ
저는 한국 국적법 바뀌기 전에 이민와서 이중국적 인정이 안되더라고요. 그래서 미국 시민권 안따고 있어요.

Not to me. Somi sometimes has a a slight accent, and says words in the wrong order im a sentence. However nancy consistently has an american accent and speaks as if shes the most comfortable in english. Nothing wrong with either, its probably because somi lived on korea for most her life, since ive lived overseas for most my life too my persian isnt 100% authentic either. I think people might think nancy sounds more korean because she naturally has a higher voice

I think Nancy's way of speaking just has more cutesy feel to it, where as Somi's way is more towards the mature style, I feel it's because Somi has more of the mature influence around her, so her way of acting, speaking is more grown up compared to Nancy and I believe she did say that she prefered speaking in Korean than in English. Overall, Somi's more comfortable with English than Nancy is.

Nancy doesn't talk much in interviews, so I had to use clips from shows which have scripts.
Well, Nancy sounds like she memorised speeches cuz she actually did. If you didn't notice, Somi was doing an interview so she was more carefree and confident in what she was saying. After all, she was talking about her own life and she knew what to say. While Nancy had to follow the script. It happens to me too. When I'm able to express my thoughts freely, I sound so good and as if I put zero efforts on speaking in English. But when I have to memorize something, I don't sound very natural. As for Nancy trying to make her English sound cute, I think it's just her own voice. She doesn't have a strong, mature voice so I think it's normal for her to sound like that

lalisa manoban I can understand both of them (native speaker here). Nancy was raised near where I was raised and she definitely has an American accent. Somi’s father is Canadian and I can also understand her. Maybe it is just the way they speak that is difficult for some to understand.

Who are they as I'm just blindly watching this because it was in my recommendation. I have no clue who either of these two are. I find that Somi, the more mature one, is easier to understand. She doesn't quite get all her wordings right but there's no subtitles needed. The other, she speaks it well enough for me to understand but her words are off a little more than Somi's. They speak better than some Americans I know.

Somi speaks Korean more. It's like she doesn't flaunt that she can speak another language. Unless someone asks her to talk in English, that's the only time she speaks. And even born in 2001, she's very mature, yet carefree and very comfortable in her own skin.

영화 Arrival(국내 개봉명 컨택트)에서도 이 부분을 다루고 있죠. 어떤 언어를 배우면 그 언어가 가진 성격대로 생각하게 된다는... 이 영화의 원작자 역시 중국계 미국인이라는 점에서 시사하는 바가 있다고 봅니다.

Very little of course, but she remembers that her granddad and grandma on the Frisian side are/were addressed as pake (pa-ke) and beppe. And she could quote, in perfect Dutch intonation, "hoeveel kost dat?" = how much is that? Has a good ear for languages.
Nancy's English is very good! She sounds just like any other American girl, Nancy just has a higher voice than Somi. Somi's lower speaking voice may make it seem like she's a more confident speaker but actually they're just as good as each other

This is going to be easy because Nancy has American English Great Lakes dialect as opposed to her Canadian counterpart Somi which has Canadian English Greater Toronto region dialect.

I actually think that Nancy is more comfortable speaking English than Somi, but just uses a cutesy voice because that's what she's used to using with her father. Somi's English sounds more relaxed in the tone, but some of the sounds are a bit cut off. She sounds less confident and practiced.
저도 그래요ㅋㅋ 일본어할 때 영어할 때 중국어할 때 다 달라집니다. 갭 차이가 가장 큰 것은 일본어랑 영어할 때인데.. 그냥 더듬더듬 문법 생각하고 말하는 외국어 말고 그 언어 패치가 장착되면 퍼스낼리티가 완전 달라지는 신기한 느낌이 있어요. 스위치가 탁 하고 켜진다고 해야할까요.
언어가 곧 문화라서 그렇게 바뀌는 것 같습니다. 문화적 배경을 경험하지 못한 채 교실에서 언어만 배우는 것이 한계가 있을 수 밖에 없는 이유죠.

Usually people that speak English and korean have a different tone when speaking both languages. Like when I speak korean my voice is more cutesy and high and the same for many of my friends that are learning korean. I’m surprised Nancy’s voice stays the same in both languages

yeah in pops in seoul i think nancy is trying to put on that "customer service voice" that's why it sounds so small and cutesy. if you want to hear her more natural english speaking voice check out her last 2 vlive streams. one from her birthday and then the q&a she did a couple weeks ago. she sounds a bit deeper and her pronunciation is much clearer.

Every accent has a charm in my opinion. That's why I talk about various accents in my video. I totally agree. Both Somi and Nancy are beautiful.

I'm half Indonesian, but English is my native language, dunno how to explain this but I've been told when I speak Bahasa that I have a Javanese accent when I do it? (Probably because my mum's first language is Javanese and I learned Bahasa from mimicking her)
My mum's accent when she speaks English is so strong that she makes me order food for her 🤣 everyone has a different background that makes them sound the way they do

Nancy’s grammar is better overall but Somi seems more confident and mature with her speech

사용언어를 바꿨을 때, 각 언어는 각자가 가진 특징 + 문화적인 요소 등을 전부 내포하기 때문에 그를 다루는 사람의 성격이나 어투 어조 등이 바뀌는 것은 자연스러운 현상이라고 생각해요. 안바뀐다고 나쁠 것도 없구요!
Somi sounds like Gigi Hadid whenever she speaks in English. A little bit shaky and boyish but it sounds so natural.
