White Sun's Twilight is bananas in this deck. Paying 5 or more for X: 1. Board wipe 2. Gain X life 3. Create X artifact creatures (Urza has affinity for artifact creatures) 4. Market price $1.78 Play the card for 7, wipe the board, gain 5 life, play Urza prob for 3 pips, and make a construct at end step. You end turn with Urza, a min 6/6 construct with menace , and 5 1/1s with menace. Life gain too. Skrelv's hive in opening hand is devastating too.
Really appreciate this episode on Urza. The precon really got me into commander and I've been tinkering with it ever since. Adding the mana Myrs made it really smooth. I added Masterful Replication last week and it's been huge, but didn't realize its versatility with darksteel :o Can't wait to give cards like Monumental Corrupt and Phyrexian Sctriputers a go
The price tag on the budget list genuinely shocked me. I was expecting something at least $50 higher for an artifact build that strong but your budget picks are always 10/10! Will definitely try Monumental Corruption in some of my decks
Perfect video for me as I was debating putting that Urza list back together again. I LOVE the suggestion of Masterful Replication, a pet card that I really like and this is a perfect use case for it. Nicely done! Some other cards I've liked in the past: Lion's Sash and The Reality Chip are just strong cards that can be creatures too. Vedalken Archmage has gotten pricier but it's a good draw engine when you have 30+ artifacts. Nettlecyst is functionally a second copy of Cranial Plating. I'm tempted to try out Grim Hireling and Spell Swindle - more treasures means more artifacts. Finally, it's mana intensive, but Soul of New Phyrexia literally won me a game I should have lost when I topdecked it... Yeah, I'm going to rebuild this tonight.
@@EDHRECast i still hope for a marrow Gnawer deck, becouse all "good" decks i see, hve over 9000 times the same rat in it and i would love to see something diffrent.
I have an Urza, Lord High Artificer deck that is basically just a mono-blue version of this deck. I can confirm that the blue cards added to this deck go HARD for this kind of strategy. I support this message. Special shout out to Masterful Replication. I got to turn all my creatures into Sharding Sphinx and it was GLORIOUS.
There are two things I love doing in this deck. The first is using song of the worldsoul. Not the greatest card and sometimes is a win more situation. But getting a construct with each spell is Crazy strong. The Second is combining phyrexian scriptures with scholar of New horizons. This pair simply makes that every turn I destroy each non artifact creature. It is great.
With Thopter Spy Network in the deck, I discovered a couple fun synergies. Namely, Skrelv's Hive, Biotransference, and Encroaching Mycosynth. Skrelv makes artifact creatures, Biotransference both makes artifact creatures and makes your creatures artifacts, and Encroaching Mycosynth makes *everything* an artifact.
I also love Sharding Sphinx in my deck. Whenever it hits the board it ends up sharding all over the place. That Sphinx will keep sharding itself until eventually it's sharded all over everyone and everything and people concede because they don't want to keep being sharded on.
I just built this and love it but mannn the artifact wall that gives haste to your creatures in an attack deck like this without red is amazing! Plus it’s an artifact creature and earlier drop to ramp into Urza ❤️🙌
Access Denied is SUPER underrated IMO, I love it in my Magnus the Red deck, the most it ever costs is 2 blue mana only then making tokens which only empower Magnus’s ability….*chef’s kiss*
I've been playing this precon and what surprises me the most is how quickly it gets lethal on board you can very quickly take out a player on turn 6 7 and 8 with just a few constructs
Just as a bit of info, the reason you're seeing Vedalken Humiliator on this list is in combination with a new-ish Warhammer card The Flesh Is Weak, which gives non-artifact creatures -1/-1, so effectively a one-sided boardwipe
I just played Urza last weekend and it was awesome, the other players were just surprised how big my constructs can get in just one turn rotation! Will look into your tips and give them a good try out. Just sad how expensive some cards for this deck are. The tezzeret is just sooooo good but sadly equally expensive.
A great board wipe to include if you're going the route of making lots of thopters to buff your Constructs is Perplexing Test. 5 mana to return all nontoken creatures to their owners' hands, at instant speed! Then because Urza has affinity we can just pop him back down immediately.
My version of the deck is running nick valentine, and forensic gadgeteer and i find the ability to get clues, which are artifacts, off of casting an artifact and artifacts going to the grave has been very nice.
My son insisted that I change my Urza Chief Artificer deck into Urza Lord Protector so we could have a meld battle with his Mishra deck, but I honestly miss this version. I should rebuild it with some of these awesome upgrades.
I really like some of the artifact creatures from the Brother's War set, such as Thran Spider, Steel Seraph and the more pricy Cityscape Leveler. Walking Atlas is also a neat little way to put lands on the board, especially with Unwinding Clock. Edit: How could I forget Lion Sash, The Reality Chip and Kappa Cannoneer.
Vedalken Humiliator in combination with the flesh is weak is my favourite combo in the deck, you attack and wipe their board. Makes for great late game turnarounds.
I somehow missed this Urza. Maybe I'll make my first artifact deck. My problem was always that artifact decks tend to be bad at winning without combo's.
Hey Joey and all! So I actually am making a different version of this deck. But more for the hilarious factor. Urza, will be helping Elesh Norn and consuming the battlefield in Phyrexian Mites. As support Overseer and Mondak. I was tempted to throw Ur the enchanter to get the smaller enchantments like smothering tithe and the enchantment that Joey took out. Let me know if I am missing any cards or suggestions of cards would help thank you.
Some of the cards from the phyrexia set have some really heavy artifact support, so i say go for it! If youre going for the phyrexian mite strategy, skrelvs hive and white suns twilight would work perfectly for your deck, especially since it would make your commander cheaper. You can also add mirrex since its a land that taps for any mana on the first turn, and is a token generator for your commander as well! Hope this helps!
@@nolangonzales6487 i can see mondrak going in, but the other 2 dominus cards im a bit iffy about since one requires heavy proliferate investment, and the other requires an aristrocrat strategy
Would love to see an "upping the archetype" sub-series. Maybe after all this artifact and phyrexia/march buisness is concluded on some of the best new includes for artifact deck themes. Just so many artifact matters sets in a row... hard to keep up on what's good and what's maybe board. Like is there any powerstone cards worth running? Could also turn it into a shorts series for major pieces for non-focal set themes. For example: new knight for tribal knights, new merfolk, etc. New commander that takes an a deck theme in a strange and fun direction.
@edhrecast I know im like a year late, but im genuinely surprised to not see Shorikai in here. Makes tokens as attackers or blockers, and churns through your deck insanely quickly
You need to do an up the average for Mishra, Tamer of Mak Fawa. It unearths which prevents die triggers and yet ALL the edhrec stuff has sooooooooo many artifact die triggers.
Im learning how to play magic with this deck, and i can assure you it is not straight forward, it is incredibly complex😭 keeping track of artifacts, counters and constructs is a lot of numbers. But i normally win with it!! Ive played 7 games since i started magic and ive won 4 of them, and ive been playing against people who have custom decks and years of experience. I normally start slow and tell my friends to "let me cook" while i put out artifacts and then WHAM i pull out the commander and then 4 turns later i have a bunch of 20/20 constructs
Did Joey just speak mention Phyrexian Scriptures and promote the graveyard exile with it? Really? Someone check that Golgari mage. He's been replaced by a Skrull. :D
I don't understand the logic behind replacing Thopter Shop, that adds to artifact count, disuades opponents from attacking us, is a mana sink if we need it, a threat to pump the karnstructs by 1, and probably draws more than 2 cards, especially with cards like Skullclamp in the deck, for Forging the Anchor, which at the same mana cost just draws 2 cards???
awesome video man, really love this series. It really helps me putting my own deck together. Would love to see a upping the average for Koma, Cosmos Serpent token average deck.
You know, the absolute worst part about this precon is that it is such a pretty deck, right out of the box but you almost have to pull a bunch of those cards and replace them with "modern" looking cards. Cool deck tho!
I don’t have an Urza deck (or any other artifact decks for that matter) but I played a decent amount of Jumpstart recently and one of my packs was artifact themed. I was surprised by how much work Whirler Rogue put in and I suspect it would also be great here. It makes two artifact creatures and then can let you attack for unblockable chunks of big damage with your constructs!
