I use the soap as well. It’s cheaper and I find it drops the mites quicker That thymovar has been in for quite a while. I bet most of the thymol is dispersed by now. O think it’s a good idea to start the OA rounds especially if you are finding lower brood in the nests Damn mites. Everyone is finding them this year
@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog Yes, I noticed that it kills the mites quiker. I should have pulled them out 10 days ago and changed it with fresh one, but I obey too much what the label instruction to leave it there for a month.
A friend of mine has a interesting theory, he says any hives with brood this time of year usually has a mite problem, he says the bees or queen are trying to compensate for the damaged winter bees by raising more bees
@irwinharlton3994 Hi Irwin, That makes sense, hopefully more likely to survive, but even my broodless ones have mites. I can't wait to bump them with Oxalix acid vap.
Wait I thought the ApiLife Var dosing was "three applications are necessary at 7-10 day intervals"? For Apiguard we do 2 doses at 10 day intervals. Then a hard OA dust up. If you put those on a month ago you should be able to hit them right now with OA. Good luck!
@MinnesotaBeekeeper I wasn't smart enough to decide quickly. I wish I had just pulled them out 10 days ago when I noticed the mites inside the drone brood. I wish I had at least changed them with fresh one. But I obey too much what the label instruction to leave them there for a month.
