This is a GREAT analysis of our rookie 1st round pick, Sanjit. Standing O for sifting through the media BS and seeing Tyree with realistic and still optimistic vision. This is also why, as some draft gurus think, if we wind up with a high draft pick we don't go QB but we take a top EDGE guy or trade down and still get one. Having a three-headed pass rushing monster, plus Koonce, would elevate the defense to a high level. On obvious passing downs Tyree could even slide inside and play 5-Tech with Maxx and our new EDGE guy coming for the QB. Something to think about if we believe in AO4.

The thought process is exactly why Ziegler and McDumbass are gone. You DONT draft a player at number 7 to be a development project. Compare his numbers in his rookie season to Clee Ferrells first year. Let’s keep it 100. He is a BUST!!! No sugar coating the obvious.

I'm not defending the pick, when I watched him at Tech I saw he was slow off the ball and the pick scared me. A lot more goes into these picks than just football talent. Character, work ethic and dedication is something we as fans can't see or don't know in the draft process. It's why some players fall in the draft like Carter and Randy Moss as an example. Sometimes a team gambles on them and it pays off. A lot of times it doesn't. Players like Reuben Foster, Justin Blackman, Josh Gordon. Who look like world beaters that team look a gamble on and end up out of the league. We've had our share of character issue with McClain, Arnette and Marinovich. As Raider fan we can find a lot more.

Not out on him at all. He has a lot of circumstances against him that he had to overcome before even beginning to get work in at this level. To me the pick is blown again because we took a project player! Again. GruYock 2.0

Off field behavior such as arrests, substance abuse problems, gambling issues. These are all things we don't hear about unless they are in the news. Teams look into these things and some teams are better than others at uncovering red flags. Raiders are one of the organization that has failed at this. Could they have taken Carter off the board because of the incident that involved the death of. teammate. Yes. Especially after the Ruggs and Arnette situation.

Give him another year he will only get better the more he plays with Crosby. If Crosby can show tyree how to use his hands to evade/spin a defender we can have 2 defensive linemen than can be explosive at the line of scrimage at each end. Tyree can get there he just a step or 2 away from getting the sack. But he is getting there and he will get there the more he develops

I always appreciate your commentary, but I rarely hear any positive comments about how well our defensive line is playing overall as of late. The Kansas City Chiefs ran the ball down the Philadelphia Eagles throat with Jaylin Carter, our defense did an amazing job, controlling Kc’s running game with the exception Of two touchdowns in the red zone. Which is to be expected when you are playing arguably the number one offensive line in football. And the reason why our young defensive tackles can’t get on the field is because our veterans are playing so well. I just wish we would focus on the reality of the situation instead of always finding fault. Best regards

I've been watching football for 40 years, played a little bit in hs and college too in my younger days. So even though I'm not a pro scout or involved in anyway in pro football, i still feel like i can call it when i see a guy that has legitimate talent or a guy who is a bust. I said tyree wilson was going to be a bust and it wasn't even a hard call to make... look anytime you hear the words "developmental" used in a guy's predraft scouting report, that means stay away. Definitely don't make him your first round pick, and unless you got a throwaway pick in the late rounds that you wanna gamble with, then by all means go for it.
Wilson just doesn't seem to have a feel for the position. He looks like an overgrown kid that got away with muscling his way through in hs and the college ranks, but it doesn't work in the pros. Ive never seen him use a swim move, a hook move, a spin move. Nothing. He tries to bullrush his way to the qb or ball carrier, and its ineffective.
Even if he were to work on these things during the off-season, he is still too slow for the defensive end position. Bottomline a guy that is this far behind in comparison to his peers is simply not going to make up that much ground. You guys can continue hoping for a turnaround but I'm writing Wilson off as a defensive end period.
His career could be salvaged, and yes i will use the word salvaged after only 1 year in the nfl because at his current rate he will be out of the nfl by his third year or be relegated to practice squad fodder. The best thing wilson has going for him is his size, which is clearly the only thing scouts looked at when they scouted him. If tyree wilson were to move to defensive tackle, he might be big enough and athletic enough to perform well. He might even be a good 3-4 scheme defensive end.

Sanjit. You are being rough on our rookie player Tyree Wilson. There was a interview/podcast conducted by OakLasVegas & Wasted Talent Unlimted with Hondo Carpenter. Hondo stated that Josh Mcdaniels and Dave Ziegler wanted #1 Will Anderson and #2 was who we now have Tyree Wilson. Hondo stated that there is a term amongst scouts that players with extremely high potential are "a dude." Tyree Wilson was seen as "a dude" by both Josh Mcdaniels and Dave Ziegler. Tyree was picked with the assumption he could get groomed behind former Raiders player Chandler Jones & current Raiders player Maxx Crosby. Tyree was supposed to have year one to fully recover and develop behind our other defensive ends. Hondo also stated that Maxx Crosby is hard on Tyree and expects a lot out of him and that Tyree works extremely hard daily to improve. I think it's safe to say we need to give him more time before we call him a bust of a pick. If we look at Clelin Ferril with the 49'ers, even he is becoming into a better player. It's going to take time for Tyree, but I got faith he'll be a big piece of the defense in the future. RN4L 🏴‍☠️

Now in three years it's entirely possible he looks exactly like he did last week and he's a bust. Or he trends upwards and turns into a 10-12 sacks guy by his 3rd year. I like the route they are taking with him, not throwing him to the wolves and getting 20 snaps a week. Usually we have young players out there for 80 plays, get beaten up look like crap. I said when we drafted Wilson, that we were getting another Dion Jordan or Vernon Gholston. On top of that, Wilson was rehabbing from a foot injury. For some reason we like drafting injured players at the top of the draft. Wilson might not be 100% healthy and may pan out in '24. The other possibility is Wilson doesn't fully recover from his foot injury and never reaches his full potential. Really wish we'd stop drafting injured guys with blue chip picks and/or making blue chip picks based on potential. We have whiffed so many times that it has been really difficult to solve long-term foundational needs and just allow us to draft best player available like the better run teams in the league.

As a Raider fan I know that much of the blame is placed on coaches. For all these bad losing seasons. But coaches don’t get on the field; players do. The Raiders do not draft well that is why they are always mediocre. They depend on big time free agents through out their history. But lately they cannot attract anybody besides Adams. I don’t think they will be able to do that anymore going forward. Many young fans have forgotten the greatness of the Raiders. They have to build through the draft. They need to start taking the best player available despite the need. STOP reaching for players! This goes back to Jabustas Russell. I have no faith in them to pick anybody good in the 1st round. We can’t even tank because we’ll just pick some clown and have the rest of league laugh at us. If I was GM I would have pick Calvin Johnson, A-Rod, and Lynch. Those were absolutely no brainers. The Eagles picked Desean Jackson in the second round! Defense is a little more tougher to judge but stop reaching. The best player available or trade down they’re going to pick some head scratcher anyways. It’s so frustrating! Like We are stuck in purgatory. Not good enough to be perennial playoff contenders but not bad enough to get a top pick. But even so we’d botch it.

Hondo carpenter touched on this what I’m about to regurgitate, Hondo talked about how we as raider nation cannot make the mistake on ostracizing tyree based on year 1, the whole situation with clelin Ferrell was bad, but Hondo made a good point on how we hated on Ferrell and Ferrell has been playing really well over in San Fran playing as DT, which is what we where going to do, move him to DT, but he ain’t want to come back cause he felt everybody hated him, so he left. The point is we can’t do to Tyree Wilson what we did to players like Arden key and Ferrell walk in FA because we hate on this dude, I say we give bro till year 3 and see how he develops than we can talk our SHIT !

Even if Wilson ever develops, you had a player that was already better than Wilson and had almost as much potential as Wilson.
