Jimin was the one who sang that highnote!! ❤️
V absolutely owns this song, in my opinion. There are some beautiful pieces that each of the members contribute, but V's part is what ties it all together in the most beautiful, compelling way.
"Withstanding the final bar line" I take this as a wordplay with a few meanings:
1. A music reference, as seen in Suga's verse -- you can't bring yourself to let the melody of this relationship die out even though you know the song is over and you've reached the final bar of the song. This is reinforced by Tae's lines about singing alone on this enduring melody.
2. Crossing the final bar -- perhaps a sports metaphor. Your feelings are too strong, so you are hesitating to cross the finish line of this relationship
3. Could also be that heartbeat feeling you talked about. The feelings linger so that even though your relationship is dead, it has yet to fully flatline, like in the last moments before a person passes away.
Michelle you have an ARMY behind you. As RM said, "We are strong"! So are you. I cried after listening to your letter. You are never alone ever. May God bless and protect us all. I remember the first time I heard this song I was so pleased with how deep Tae's voice went. I so love deep bass so when a song let's Tae get into his deep bass vocals it is such a gift to me. Great reaction! I still can't wait for you both to react to Louder than Bombs.💜
I love to see your reaction to an underrated masterpiece "House of cards" my most most most favorite one by The vocal line. They play with their music and lyrics in this song. When you hear it, it gives you a most romantic song feel but if you look into the lyrics then its completely different from what you actually heard. I promise You won't regret it 💜💜💜
Knowing Yoongi’s predilection for using music as a metaphor, I see these lines about the end of the melody or the last bar specifically as using music as a comparison to a relationship. Suga mentions a music script in his verse, and in sheet music, bars are the vertical lines that show where a set number of beats starts and ends (so if a song is in 4/4 time, you’d count 1,2,3,4 /bar/ 1,2,3,4). The last bar is at the end of the song so when they say circling or repeating the final bar they mean not letting the song, ie the relationship, end. You can also think of it like having a song on repeat or a part of a song looped. Rather than stopping at the end, you just keep circling back to the beginning again and again.

I hope you are doing the Live. The Live really captures the emotions they but into their delivery of this song. They were so young to sing with that kind of emotion💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Knowing people meet to only part eventually shouldn't make you sad... It's supposed to be like the "live every day like it's your last"... Love everyday like it's the last, it's precious appreciating every moment of love knowing it may end inevitably because you were blessed to have it even briefly. Just my 2 cents. RM's song "everythingoes" helped me to understand that. If you're going through something unbearable hang on to the fact everything's cyclical and it'll pass, but also hang on to the fact everything good will pass eventually so that you can appreciate it in it's fullest and feel less unfair when it passes knowing good will come around again.

As an addendum, this was the first song that Suga figured out who sang what when. He has such an ear for this sort of thing. It was also pretty unique, because he rapped first. Normally, he's last. I think this is the last song that came out with him being the first rapper. So, there's that. 😊

Finally! This is the song that got me into BTS. I remember when they dropped it as the prerelease to Dark & Wild. I'd heard earlier stuff but was very meh. It wasn't to my taste at the time. But I heard this song and I did a double take. And here I am almost 9 years later.
This is the first song where we finally really heard Jin's voice. Because back then, he was barely utilized in ANY songs. When this song came out, it was a shock.
I love this song so much and it will always have a sweet, soft place in my heart. I got to see them perform this and Tomorrow live and I will never forget that experience.

To me, the final bar line refers to the thick black line at the end of sheet music that indicates the song is over. In Suga's verse, he refers to being stuck between repeat signs, which are notations in sheet music that sort of look like colons ( : ) that indicate to the singer or musician to repeat the lines between those signs. These sometimes show up before the final bar line. It seems like Suga is saying that until this other person let's him know that it's really over, he's caught repeating the idea of what they used to be together in his head ("circling around by myself").

You've got over 200 comments, so I'm sure someone has already answered your question about the 'final bar line', but just in case I'll say that this song uses a lot of terminology based on sheet music. The final bar line signals the end of a song. So when Suga says, "I keep coming back to the same place, stuck between the repeat signs," that is referring to a notation on sheet music that indicates you should repeat a phrase in the song. He says he is 'stuck between repeat signs' as a metaphor for circling endlessly. And when he says, "On the music score where the final bar line has been marked, I’m circling around by myself," it is a metaphor for his desire to not have the relationship come to its end.
Even the opening line of the song, "On this melody that has ended, I'm enduring by myself," it is establishing the imagery it uses throughout the entire song. It is a song that is, ironically, using the image of a song coming to its end to symbolize a relationship coming to its end.
