    Like using my cup over other options. Except for the one time I lost my grip on the fold as I was getting ready to insert the cup. That d@mn thing sprung open and bitch slapped my tw@t! Yes, I saw stars and there were a few tears and the air turned blue with some choice words. Other than that, I would recommend them.

    Just to add a little bit about cleaning it, in general, if you buy the correct size cup you should only need to change it once in the morning and once at night. They last around 12 hours (give or take). But if you need to clean it out in public then just pour the cup into toilet and use either tissue or water and reinsert. You can then clean it fully when you have a chance. :)

    • @lizthedisjointedzebra692
      @lizthedisjointedzebra692 7 лет назад +4

      In our six month travels around Asia, I think I only had to empty/clean it out in public three times, once in Thailand, once in Cambodia, and once in Japan. I was a little worried about emptying it in Thailand and Cambodia's public toilets, but it really wasn't a big deal at all, a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

      I am confused by your channel. You make videos about traveling and adventuring, but you most of your videos are just you sitting in a room talking to a camera. TAKE THE CAMERA WITH YOU! You could be making these videos sitting in your mom's basement, make videos showing you actually travelling, not just talking about it.

    • @betsybabf748
      @betsybabf748 7 лет назад +21

      Most videos show her and Scott out and about, with all the sights in each location. Those who follow her prefer a variety, not just all those sight-seeing ones, but some just sitting and talking.

    • @lizthedisjointedzebra692
      @lizthedisjointedzebra692 7 лет назад +11

      Yeah, I think the video before this one showed them going to temples and tunnels that were used in the Vietnam war. I personally think that she has a good balance on her channel.

    • @Runner656
      @Runner656 7 лет назад +20

      Most of her videos do show her travelling. The ones in her apartment in Chiang mai and other places where she stayed she offered tips and ideas about living/staying in those countries, and travelling advice videos. She can't be travelling every day of the year. She is also talking about a really important topic for women who travel, and she tackles it headon and with taste. Great vid!

    Laughing so hard. I refused to try cups for years. Finally a friend talked me into trying. I bought a Lunette last May, and yes, it changes your life lol. First day, insertion I tried for HOURS with c fold. Every youtube video said so easy if you know your body, with girls saying "I'm a 15 yr old virgin and it's so easy!". I've given birth 5 times, know my body well and couldn't for the life of me insert it, getting so frustrated. Seriously longest most intimate relationship since my husband died was with that damn cup. The push down fold, the one you like, I got it with that. That's the one I've been using and find it easy. Might have to try the Lilycup. I love how it compacts down.

    Being an older person I was unaware of this lovely product. When I traveled I used tampons and made sure I had enough to last ( I had enough to supply 3 ladies). Yes I did have my period while traveling. Now in this stage of my life I don`t have to worry about that problem; Halleluiah, can I hear an Amen from the back choir. I enjoy the way you give information and get it out there even for things people don`t think about or don`t know how to ask because they may see it as personal. Thank-you!

      since when are applicator tampons new in Aus? they dont have loads of them in shops but high percentage do have them but these days its getting cut back on because of the waste factor. they are aimed at girls starting out, chicks who cant get the hang of the normal ones or at times using a non applicator tampon feel unsanitary.

    I've been using cups for a few periods now, and I'm in my 40s and since I had my son over 20 years ago I haven't been able to use tampons because of scar tissue, so I've been limited to pads - and I couldn't use pills because of my health, so even though my period was so regular I could set my watch by it, it was still annoying and impractical...
    One thing I've found whilst I've been using a cup, is that it has shortened the length of my period - or more to the point, I skip my spotting days before and after... so where I used to spot for 2-3 days, bleed for 3-4 days and then spot for 1-3 days, or even spot a day, bleed a day - it ended up being 6-9 days of using pads...
    after I've used the cup I'm down to 3-5 days, and NO spotting....
    the reason is that because of the suction and the seal the uterus gets a helping hand in the emptying where before it just had to 'let it go' on its own.....

    I bought a Mooncup before going travelling for the first time. That was 10 years ago and I've never looked back. It's cheaper, safer and more environmentally friendly. I can't understand why all women don't use them.

    • @vageryvegan5558
      @vageryvegan5558 7 лет назад +4

      Overland Ali these cups are becoming more known these days thanks to youtube but they first came out in the 80's and if you are aware of the history of the period...not a hot topic and horrible things were done to females. in the 80's they didnt sell well as women mainly felt the idea of having to discard the 'blood' was repulsive and obviously in the 80/90's being environmentally conscious wasnt mainstream like it is today. so since we live in todays world with people caring about the side affects of using tampon, the waste of such products, vegan aspects and not to mention the monthly cost, women are so much more open to the idea but as its a product that last 3-10yrs so companies dont see it as lucrative and you only need to buy one so im sure thats why it apares to be a new concept for most people. its something we obviously need to start openly talking about no matter who is around to hear it!

    I agree - it is a game changer 100%! I wish I had known about menstrual cups earlier. I learned about them through the Precious Stars channel. Got the mooncup UK last year and it took a while to get the hang of it, but I love it and would never go back to tampons. Thank you for doing a video on this - I'm sure that there are some others who, like I was a year ago, have never heard of menstrual cups. So it's great that you put yourself out there and shared this.

    This was an awesome video! I have used the Diva Cup for years, and it seriously saved me when my husband and I traveled around Asia for six months. I clean it out at night in the shower, and in the morning when I get up, and it was never a burden in any country, even Cambodia and Thailand where the public restrooms weren't top notch, if I had to empty it out a third time in the day(which was really rare). It made my period one less huge thing to worry about on our trip!

    I loved this cup when I was travelling! Especially with the amount of night buses I went on with no toilet facilities. 1. It meant that I didn't have to worry about how many tampons/pads to pack in my bag for the journey or if I'd packed enough and 2. We never really knew when we would be stopping off at a service station etc so knowing I had the cup in and didn't have to change it as often as a tampon really put my mind at ease! Also we did a lot of water based activities when out there - E.g. Canyoning, tubing, swimming etc and with the cup in I felt so much more comfortable than if I had been wearing a tampon in the water. It really is a game changer!

    Yes! I have been using a menstrual cup for around 2 years now. My friend and I are getting ready to go on our first big adventure to Europe and I've been trying to get her to use one of these ever since we started talking about going. I can't imagine going back to tampons or pads anymore; while she is worried about how much she should pack for her period I don't have to worry because it's always with me, no matter if it's a heavy or a light day. Love it!
    PS, I am taking my Psycho Traveler T-shirt with me on our trip.

    In Austria and the UK I never stumbled upon tampons with an applicator, at least the ones I got were always without it. I was SO surprised to find the ones with the applicators in the US. To this day I am unsure on how to use the applicator haha! I found tampons in lots of places but especially Bangkok harder to find and SO expensive. I've been using a cup for 1 year now and LOVE it. It changed my life! No leakage, never again paying $$$ for plain tampons - it's liberating! :) Thank you for making this video! The more people here about it, the better! :)

    I have been using cups for about half a year now, and I totally agree it changed my life! I have a lunette cup and half the time during my cycle I forget I have a period because I have gotten so comfortable with it. The only thing that scares me now is having to empty it out in public but I'm slowly conquering that fear! Love you so much Ali!

    Thanks for doing this one Ally. I was considering investing in one, as I travel a lot. I hate having to grab a box and pack it as I travel carryon mostly. And you are right cycles can always get messed up, and as you hit into the mid 40s as you head towards menopause those cycles go all over the place. Better to have a cup than having to always carry boxes with you.

    Love the cup! I use a Moon Cup. I would add that it's okay to trim the long end (the sort of 'string' that you use to get the cup out again) to fit you. When I got mine it was too long, so I had to trim it. Then it was perfectly comfortable! Also the first few times it might feel like something is in there, but after that your body gets used to it! No different than a tampon. As for cleaning it, it's nice that you only need to change twice a day, so usually I can find a private bathroom to do it in. If I'm in a hostel sometimes I will just use toilet paper and it works okay.

There were so many limitations I would put on myself when it came to my period... i wouldnt swim, I would wear granny panties and i would opt out of travling or even hanging out sometimes.... all those insecurities are gone now. I have used it for 3 cycles now. I just recently threw away all my periord panties and i am donating all the pads i stocked up on to a womans shelter. i can swim and wear anything I want during my period now. When she mentioned how empowering it is... she was not kidding. And it did take my body some time to get used to it... but this last cycle, i got my technique down. So when you first start it is alot of trial and error, but then it becomes second nature. i do have to mention it can be arousing during the first day when your v is shaping up to it or when your exercising, but as long as your mind is in the right place you for get your even wearing it.

    Good advice for a traveling partner. Like anything else do not assume a foreign country has what you need. Sorry did not make it through the whole video - will now watch your next one

    I discovered this Lily Cup Compact through its Kickstarter. It really did change my life. Periods are no big deal now, for any event or situation. It definitely has a learning curve at the beginning. I also had a leakage accident once, before I knew what the proper seal felt like. But now that I know how it works, I've not had a single leak. After converting to the cup, the idea of tampons actually make me cringe! It's too bad so many women are scared away from trying it--they are missing out.

    I'm currently on my very first cycle with DivaCup! After reading so many positive reviews I decided to try considering that in two months I'll be traveling long term and I was freaked out at the idea of stocking up on tampons and pads and use so much space in the backpack for this stuff (in particular when you try to be minimalistic on clothes and toiletries) and I'm so happy I did buy it! The only issues is in the night because it leaks out, I don't know if it depends of the position how I sleep or if it unseal itself somehow. But I just put a pad and I'm fine! Now I might sound like a teenager but when I saw that you published this video I felt a kind of telepathy with you considering that in the last days I've been struggling with the thing too! :) I like you so much Ally, hope that I'll be able to meet you somewhere in Asia!Hugs from Sweden!

      I traveled around Asia for six months, and the Diva Cup made my periods so incredibly easy. I only took a 40L backpack, and a purse, so saving space was awesome. It might be the cup isn't inserted far enough, so it doesn't seal well against your cervix. I know, you have to get SUPER comfortable with your nether regions, haha. I was nervous my first few cycles, and leaked a bit, but as I got more confidence putting it in, and learned the way it best fits my anatomy, I haven't had a leak in years, now.

      FWIW, the cup never goes near your cervix, it seals to the walls of the vagina and i think if it's not positioned correctly (wrong angle, etc) it can leak. the sensation of a leak will atually wake me up out of a sound sleep. I just finished my first cycle with a diva cup because I am preparing to travel with only a 40L backpack and a purse and I wanted to be prepared. OMG what a game changer.

    Cleaning menstrual cups can get bloody messy...if the sink is too far or you're stuck in the public washroom stall, I definitely recommend carrying a bottle of water! Based on personal experience as a backpacker who still wants to feel sanitised as much as possible lol. It also helps for those diarrhea days! Plus you can save on toilet paper trash if you're in a country that doesn't have a strong pipe & sewage system. :D

    thanks for the video! (in fact, all of them, i just never comment :D ) inspired by all these fantastic reviews i did get diva cup last year, but it just never worked out. i didn't want to miss out on awesome ability to conquer periods, so i went for lily cup and, oh my, was it perfect! mine is a regular one, but i've been thinking about getting the backup compact one for the upcoming move to the other side of the world (like, literally, latvia to nz) so the code is appreciated :) tampons are awesome, but so expensive, especially if you like ob's pro comfort and live in a poor country. like me. also, i don't get the aplicators, can't get high enough in, tampon just stays right above entrance :D

    I have a heavy flow and often leak when sleeping . One days I bought disposable cups to try . I love them ! I can sleep without a big bulky uncomfortable pad and now leaks ! I want to get a reusable one cause the disposables have no nipple to help remove them . I haven’t mastered removing without a mess . I heard the super jenni on is great for heavy flows .

    I also felt that my menstrual cup really was a game changer. It doesn't interfere with your day at all as much as having to change tampons does, and as an added bonus there's less risk of TSS or the mucous membranes getting dried out, as they can from tampons :D
    Also there's no bleach or traces of pesticides in it, and it reduces waste. Woo for progress!

    I love menstrual cup and now I can not even think life without it (used it couple of years). At the time of my menstruation I usually have 1-2 days with heavy flow or you could say super heavy flow. My menstrual cup is biggest size what I found in market and the worst days it is full during 2-3 hours.. and then leak when more doesn't fit... But it is still my lifesaver and I would recommend it every women.
    Other days it is so amazing when it is enough just clear it 12 hours cycle. And if you don't be sure when your periods start you can just put cup inside you in advance, because it is not harmful your body. :)

    I went backpacking with a friend who packed a jumbo pack of pads while I brought only 3 or 4 because I figured: its Europe, I'd be able to buy more over there, that's enough to get me through a day at least. She had borrowed all but one of mine, used up all of hers, and decided to go home early so I had to organise some unexpected solo travel and had to go on a hunt for wifi to book a hostel. Not a great night, anyway she later told me "oh I borrowed that last pad hope that's ok..." I didn't think any more about it until I arrived in London on my own, late at night, in the dark after a long, long day, only to get my period early... With nothing to use. I was not best pleased.
    Yeah after I got back from that holiday I switched to tampons, so much easier to chuck 2 or 3 in all my bags and forget about them, but there's always one tucked away in a zip when I need it!

    i use the lunette and it's really amazing! didn't find it too intimate using it, depends on the person i guess. haha and i didn't know you shouldn't use tampons at night, did it for years, especially at night because i would bleed through every pad construct... stopped using tampons about two years ago because they started hurting me and because i hate pads and they also don't really work for me on their own, i really needed the alternative

    I purchased a cup before coming to Africa for 9 months. It has been very convenient for me since I didn't have to purchase a 9 month supply of tampons or pads, that would have taken up precious luggage space. In addition the area I am now living in doesn't have a way to properly dispose of garbage. Instead they burn every thing. :/ so I am glad that I can minimize my waste in every way I can.

    I use contraceptive pills and only get my period 3-4 times a year so it's really convenient. I have to be on it for medical reasons, so stopping it is never an option. Did you ever consider getting an IUD or something like that? I know a lot of my friends who travel a lot get those, especially the plastic ones that stop your period all together. I don't know what just what I've heard. I will definitely recommend this to some of my friends though!

    I need to get this, we're heading off travelling in a few months and I'm a tampon person too. I'm also stressing on the waxing front - do you just shave or get waxed. tmi? I'm thankfully on a 3 month cycle due to health things, it's never pleasant when it shows up. At least this will take the some of the nerves out of it.

    I bought a Luna cup earlier this year: want to say I loved it but I actually grew to HATE the experience of inserting it and removal. I'm interested in the second technique you demonstrated so I may give that a go when I'm next due. I insert using the folding technique like the one you demonstrated first. The problem for me was the thickness of the rim of the cup, it was just so painful.
    I soo want to like the cup as the concept is brilliant (not to mention the bloody thing cost AUS$50!). I don't want to throw it away just yet, so seeing your video has has renewed the possibility of giving it another go. Sigh I hate periods.

    • @QueenMegaera

      Claire E I've also had problems with the process being painful, and the second method is definitely better than the first. I can't even do that.

      Have you tried applying a couple drops of lube to the rim? That made world's difference for me.
