      But you have to remember, Selective schools students are usually the best students from a comprehensive school, so should do well academically anywhere, anyway, but sometimes the environment of a selective school might make them do worse because they are not happy there.

      @@mewmewkat True, but it really depends on the mindset of the student going into a Selective School, all the teachers and facilities won't help them if they have the wrong mindset, for some that had been the brightest in their previous school, might find it hard to cope to be the average or even below average at a Selective School. So, while they might be able to handle the academics, they still have to have the right mindset.

    Selective schools students 自發好高

  • @csho303
    @csho303 2 года назад

    Wrong to assume most selective school students are under pressure.
    For year 7 - 10, there is no subject/Year ranking even on a top AU selective school.

    • @rayngmelb
      @rayngmelb 2 года назад

      It’s not about academic pressure, it’s certainly not about ranking, it’s about how the students themselves think they are doing compared to their peers. While there is no actual ranking at the schools, they do have a achievement matrix that shows where they are compared with the other students. It’s a lot to do student mindset more than anything else. As I said while my son was more than happy with how he was going compared to his peers, some students who had always perceived themselves as amongst the top of their class can’t accept that they are just average at the school.

      @@csho303 So, some of your child's friends from primary school ended up with the top ATAR? In any case, many of the Alumni from my son's former selective school have had the top ATAR, however, some of them didn't actually need it, as they have pre acceptance into their University courses even before they took their VCE exams. Not all selective school students worry about their ATAR, they only really care that they can get into the courses that wanted, at the end of the day it's irrelevant after they get into the courses. Many selective students seem to embrace the various activities and specialized teams at University, teams such as motorsport design, High Powered Rocketry, robotics, Aerospace, Cybersecurity, debating, political clubs, international affairs etc. have a much bigger impact in their future careers than what ATAR they got.

    The culture in these top-performing schools can be very toxic. In my current degree, I have classmates who come from these elite schools (not necessarily selective schools). To them, getting an ATAR of 90 is considered a failure; They would tease their less-well-performing classmates by saying things like 'Oh, you'll be going into pharmacy with that ATAR. You have no future.'
    It's just so toxic and damaging to students' self-esteem.

    • @rayngmelb
      @rayngmelb 2 года назад

      From my experience, I don't believe they are selective schools you are talking about. The term "Elite" schools is not a normal term that is used for state schools in Australia, some private school might consider themselves to be "Elite" however, the school environment in those schools are very different. Anyone that still talks about their ATAR at University will have a hard time to adjust in real world. Quite often you will find those with high ATARs from "Elite" schools are generally the ones that have most difficulties adjusting to university life when they have to do things for themselves, without the spoon-feeding from their teachers.

    就算小朋友學術吾錯,但188TR 冇得考selective school, 其實讀selective多數都爛船都有3分釘,同學群壞機會小, 但State school catchment派入,學生夾雜吾同背景,可能有時有心讀書都比同學影響變冇心讀書,魚吾過塘吾肥,始終都要讀過selective, 睇下佢讀吾讀得掂,冇邊一間學校係肯定啱或適合,始終都要試一試,
