💬 What are YOUR thoughts on the future of Total War? Do you think we’ll see Medieval III, Warhammer 40K, or something completely unexpected? Let’s speculate together-drop your ideas below! 👇
Since CA have confirmed they are working on both a fantasy and historical total war my picks would be: 40k Total War and Empire II Total War. Whatever historical game they release I just want there to be strategy in it. Population management, forts & watchtowers, armies led by captains, multiple resources to consider instead of only gold etc. With 3 Kingdoms diplomacy and an in depth trading system would be great.
All I want is CA to announce a new historical total war. Historicals have lacked a lot (apart from Pharaoh Dynasties) and we need some historical content. Fantasy wise, they are sorted for many years after Warhammer. 40k is going to be a total war for me I predict. That's it.
@@thisistotalwar I mean I don't think so personally because I love the time period, it was however marketed in a very bad storm of WH3 DLC chaos. That's never a good sign. At the same time, Empire total war has received an update about its co-op in so many years. so....tail end of next year. I just want CA to announce something MAKE ME EXCITED LIKE I WAS FOR ROME 2 DAMNIT!
@MedjayofFaiyum Yeah, I really like Pharaoh aswell. Bit I mean, when look at the sales it comes apparent that the market for it just wasn't there. Lets hope we all get exciting news eventually!:)
@ That's all we want. More total war content to play with at the end of the day. Yes, sadly perhaps. But at least we have a complete Bronze age game rather than a half finished one!
Shoot I loved Troy. Loved that there was an option to split the campaigns with mythical or actual historical including with the units used in both. You could also do both which was interesting. No game has ever covered both like that, that I can remember. People litterally are getting too negative these days. Quit expecting so much or these developers will just keep taking years and years to actually make games. Pretty soon it's going to get like Elder scrolls games where it takes a decade or more to produce a game. It's getting more and more time between games it seems, I believe this is why because they want to wait until the newest techs to please the overbearing customer base that is building.
I agree that there is alot of negativity, which is quite tiresome. But at the same time, it's not without reason. Many just want a pure historical title in a popular time period. And ca has not provided that. An empire 2 or med 3 would be slam dunk.
CA have left it too late. They no longer know what the people want. Slapping theme skins on their games and arcade-ifying everything drove away the core total war player base. The fantasy player base aren't total war player base. They are warhammer theme player base. They won't stick around if CA stopped making warhammer based games and they know that. They've dug themselves a huge hole for around a decade and ate the shovels too.
"They HOPE to announce" :) So yeah ... let's hope :) Anyway when thinking about Total War, what makes the most sense for CA is to produce Warhammer content as much as they can, be it 40k or whatever. The numbers clearly show, that this community being the most loyal and most content and willing to pay. Too bad for me, as i am not a part of that community. While there is a lot of whining from the Medieval players (I wouldnt' mind Med 3 either, don't get me wrong), that group of players actually is not that numerous. I believe Empire 2 is actually more likely then Med 3, because of the scope. Which is not surprising. That is why most of the strategy games are "global", not regional. All in all, I am in the smallest of minorities, I like smaller and shorter regional campaigns, i.e. something like Wrath of Sparta. Or FOTS short campaign. Currently I'm waiting for the Nobunaga's Ambition Awakening to go on sale ... it has some good reviews and should work well on steam deck as well.
If CA out of History to make a Historical Total War setting, why not just reboot it just like how they did to Shogun,Medieval & my favourite Rome. Like how about Empire or Napoleon? Instead of making new combat animations, why not reused it from "Fall of the Samurai"(except the Katana part) like Thrones of Britannia & Attila recycled from Rome 2?
@ The games released after Attila don't even have battle animations. We missed seeing soldiers writhing on the ground or fistfighting in Shogun 2 or Rome 2. :/
This year warhammer will be finished. and in next 4 years we will see remasters of other games like napoleon rome 2 and attila and others? and maybe on 30 years celebration year we will get 1 or 2 more games. Maybe gta 6 will be releaseed in 2030 with total war games.
The problem with new games is the graphics and UI. When I played rome 2 or attila years ago I know where everything is, In pharaoh I played month to month returned to a game and had to relearn everything and thats anoying for me. I play on 4k monitor always have 60 fps graphics to ultra and I get tired looking at the screen. Yes I tried different monitors and resolutions so new color coading for the game is the problem. I cant play for more than an hour or two . when I open orme 2 or attila I can play for 2 days without eye strain. And there are Ai problems one city rising and feeding 4 gold armies with no reasorces or trade is just broken game.
Do you like reading if so there about 70 books just covering the beginning i.e 30k lol if you honestly do try to get into the lore just find whatever you think is coolest and start there i did that with krieg and it makes your life alot eaiser
Troy, Rameses, British Isles w/e was BS, last good history titles were Shogun and Atilla. Remake medieval tw or empire tw. The fantasy stuff got yada yada. Until we get something substantive in that direction Im not interested. Paradox has been innovating the history genre. Id like to see some of that from CA
@thisistotalwar Im pretty sure they'd have to innovate a lot. But I don't see as a total impossible thing. Check out Wargame from Eugen as well as Warno. Now image that RTS gameplay combined with TW government and economy management system. Would be something like that for me

I agree!
You expect too many things from such a company which cancelled 3k and promised a redo and cancelled that "promise", too.
@ not expecting anything just stating what I would like to see in a future game.
@@hereisjohnny1875 Actually, that is what I expect/want as well.

On the blood packs change, why would they need to up the age rating? Can't they just make it FLC instead of DLC?
An flc might be what we end up with actually. I have never really understood this to be honest
Lord of the rings for fantasy and medieval for historical

We shall see what the future holds. If they make a good historical game with an appealing time period. The market is there, no doubt.
Hope they have come to their senses. Ive stopped buying fantasy content until we get a real historical title.

Answering your Q: Medieval 3
I'm afraid so 😥
The foray into warhammer fantasy in 2016 created something irreversible. Warhammer is nice but they can't make historical games anymore
There is still a huge market for historical games. But still comes down to the execution ofc
