Pro tip for fellow UK residents: there's a small cheese company in Halifax called Yorkshire Dama. It was set up by Syrian refugees and they specialise in halloumi, but they also do a range of Latin American-style cheeses, including queso Oaxaca, and you can order online.
I'm at the end of day 2 of a 3day water fast to alleviate my shoulder injury....why am I torturing myself watching this?!! 😂🤤🤤🤤 that last shot of the finished sandwich looks amazing. I can't wait to have the time to make this!!
I find adding water or liquid egg white helps to get the egg wash to stick to the meat. Adding cornstarch to the flour would help to crisp up the meat. Great recipe, thank you .
it's a chicken fried steak sandwich! New?? are you kidding me? I don't think there is a single state in the US where you cannot get a chicken fried steak.
@@johnnydelgrady you are? You said you find it crazy that he makes authentic Mexican cuisine without lard. You also put quotes around """""authentic Mexican cuisine.""""" That is a criticism, regardless if you're hiding it in implication.
He has in the past, I was actually surprised he came out in defense of its use in modern cuisine. He mentions the myth surrounding the cholesterol. I just forget what episode that's in.
Vegetable oil is a staple in all Mexican kitchens, every single one. There isn't a single product in any grocery store anywhere in Mexico that takes up as much shelf space.
Milanese where I'm at isn't cooked like that, I think my boys would love that. Santiago, DR . I will try, but as a tostata. Where I'm from originally, that's called chicken fried steak. Minus the avocado, but we have several trees where I'm at now, two varieties in harvest.
Rick, you are such a class act, and this looks spectacular (as does your house, by the way -- is that an Eames egg chair in the background? And a Tiffany tank watch on your wrist? You seem like a man who appreciates the classics, and it's reflected in your food).
Have you ever grated the avocado seed like they do in the Nuevo Leon region of the north east Mexico ? It turns from white to orange quickly, but adds a really good flavor.
For the breading if desired you can combine the flour and egg to almost make a runny pancake batter, it saves a plate and it coats and sticks to the meat 100%
Rick taught me how to make tamales the likes of which had most of my Mexican coworkers asking my Lilly-white butt for the recipe. This is the only white man I trust for Mexican recipes.
Milanese or as it's known in this country: Schnitzel or Country Fried Steak. The Austro-Hungarian Empire owned most of Italy (including Milan) until the late 19th Century. When it came to Vienna the locals called it Schnitzel. When the Austrian and German immigrants came to Texas they couldn't find any Veal at first so they would use the cuts of steak they had and began calling it Country or Chicken Fried Steak to separate it from their beloved dish from their homeland. So it's all the same thing.
Schnitzel is not always breaded, it really just means 'thinly sliced', though breading is common too. Country Fried Steak is usually made with buttermilk + eggs and baking soda for a thicker, fluffier coating. And it's usually a thicker cut of meat, and served with brown gravy and onions. Of course every culture has a version of breaded and fried meats. The whole point of what Rick does is show you the typical Mexican preparations.
@@virginiaf.5764 not really. I’m just curious to why the op had to go on about what breaded steak was called in other countries. It’s not relevant and comes off snobby to me.

Beef tallow frying has a strong taste that dominates over the main ingredient, which is not good if it's not beef. It also leaves a greasy mouthfeel. It's especially bad for chicken, fish or veggies. There's nothing wrong with seed oils for 99% of the population. The amount you actually consume from deep frying is minimal, and nobody is suggesting eating fried foods multiple times every day. Of course you get to eat whatever you want, but don't presume your tastes or needs are relevant to others.
@randallmarsh1187 I just don't care for bland cheese. It's got to have some bite or it's lost on me. Unless it just gets lost in everything else that's going on in the dish, giving just creaminess or richness.
Hm? … Had you included a spread of mayonnaise, two slices of ripe tomato , and some slices of onion, … then it might be considered “one of the best sandwiches in the world “. 🌎
Rick is extremely healthy, I think he still runs multiple miles every day. You have no idea what his full diet is on a daily basis, you're judging him based on making videos that he sees as popular and often requested. Nobody is suggesting you eat one of these every day, but a generally healthy person should be able to enjoy one occasionally. Health is much more than just what you eat.
As a Poblano, I can say that it is a traditional cemita that you can find anywhere in Puebla. It looks delicious.

Oh man can’t wait to try this! Never a miss when I follow one of Rick’s videos.
Absolutely one of the best tortas in Mexico la cemita 🤤🤩
My daughter just took her friends to XOCO this weekend, everybody loved it! ❤
I thought they closed?
Love you by the way...I live in Mexico, have for over 24 years, left US never looked back!
Wow this looks fantastic!!! Tengo que intentarlo! 😋
Yummmm torta de Milanese is definitely in my future
Love how you incorporated the papalo Chef! It’s not a cemita without it lol
Always try to find one of these when I'm in NYC or LA, they're hard to find but singularly awesome
That looks delicious. Milanesas are one of my favorites. With white rice with veggies. And a nice green salsa. Ummmm
My dad is from Puebla so I’ve heard of it 😛🙌
I love Mexican food so I can’t imagine that being the only thing I ever cooked.
That's a great-looking sandwich!
this guy can cook 😊

Fresh shredded bread like they use in Japan works so well with this. I know it is not a Hispanic thing but it is so good.
No argument, but the 7-11 curry katsu on white bread is underrated.
Ah, posí! Esa es una cemita. Y sí, la combinación de sabores del chipotle al piloncillo, pápalo y queso Oaxaca es inigualable.
This is definitely a new kind of sandwich to eat and it really
looks delicious thank you Rick.🥪🍺🇺🇲

When I shallow fry, I drop a couple kernels of popcorn into the oil. When they pop, your oil is hot enough.

how caucasian am I that I looked at that sandwich and my first thought was "Now there's a Dagwood ass sandwich..."

They look delicious! but they are missing the black refried beans spread on the bread.
ensenenos como hacer el pickled chipotle porfa
In Germany we call that Schnitzel but we would use clarified butter for frying

Lazy comparisons are boring.
All countries have similar food
Except when they don't.
Variety is the Spice of Life
Skip with his constant gringo overly accented Spanish. Hilarious.
Cut the chiles lengthwise
Ditch the seed oils! Fry in beef tallow, period
Mind your own business...

You lost me at the Oaxaca cheese, unfortunately. I'd have to gringo it up with some cheddar. Forgive me.
You could also use regular string cheese or Monterey jack.

If you can’t find papalo then make something different. It’s not a cemitas without papalo.
