I've been following BRNLY on IG for a few years now... He has some stellar pieces. Funny that I found you though a whole different interest of film making. I love knives and photo/video too. Too funny.
For someone that is just starting to make some interviews with people, background is just so important. It gives so much more personality to the video and creates a much more personal space. Thanks por helping with this. Also, just love how you use so many angles to keep us engaged with what you're saying. Honestly, I just a learn a lot from you every time!
From the moment you sat down in the office and you started talking about your bookshelf, I was thinking about solutions for you on how to get the annoying shelf in the background to be gone. A sheet covering it or something, or some sort of curtains... I have to say: your solutions was THE BEST!
Great Video. The arrival of the Twins took away my studio space. It's so great to have your own area to setup for filming. If I ever build a garden studio I will be sure to use these great tips. Keep Crushing It Peter!
I absolutely love the first minute of this video. It showed me how you can make bringing a fridge upstair look nice. With different shots angles and you just need a tripod. It at the same time made me realize how much work was also put in just to shoot that minute and makes me really appreciate how much effort you put in and how much I should be willing to put in
Since I have the notification bell on, I thought the title of your video was someone commenting on one of my videos. I was thinking “that’s not very nice.” 😂😂😂
A box cutter is the right knife for opening boxes/ packages. The ratio of handle to blade gives you the most control and the blade is shallow enough to not damage the products within. It would be cool if they made a box cutter with this level of detail and artistry for people who work in warehouses ;-)
I spent so much time looking at the background of your old studio and trying to work out if it was deliberately set up for the video. I love your attention to detail 👌
Peter your last two videos are priceless, I love the seemingly random creative twists you're constantly adding - it makes such a difference! So exciting to see your new space developing!!
I'm currently waiting on 9 orders off Amazon and I can agree , waiting sucks lol I just recently bought the Sony a6500 so I've ordered a bunch of small rig parts and some ND filters and other equipment. They are not priority items during this pandemic so the estimated delivery date is like may 20th .. I don't mind tho, these strange times allow me to focus on things I've neglected and get back on track. Thanks for the quality content you share and hard work you put in to help us learn.
SO glad Peter is back! I love these informative videos, they help me so much! Peter is so inspiring and motivating it's insane! He recently motivated me to make this channel, not care what people think about me, and now I have almost 300 amazing supporters in just 2 months on my channel! Thanks for the inspiration Peter, I am now doing what I love because you've showed me it's amazing to do what you want in life and not give a care if people thing it's dumb or pointless.
It always cracks me up thinking about the stop/start and running forward/backwards to get all those shots. So even funnier when Matti said he’d had enough - although he’s never short of a few shots in his vids either
Peter; my wife and I were watching the video and trying to figure out why we liked it and why we like you and all of your videos. Our conclusion: you are Peter Pan in the flesh; and we all deep down want to be like you. Thanks for keeping the imagination alive.
Welcome back Peter. Glad to have you back. That lightsaber is DOPE !!! and the KNIFE.. PHWOAR... SICCC!!! Thanks for the tips and tricks of the trade. I look forward to more episodes to come.
Ahh Pete, i am with you 100%, its all about the craftsmanship.. hand made with passion beats factory produced every time! same with coffee!! ;) love your videos and tutorials, i think i have watched all of them now.. what you're getting up to and the direction is also really interesting! :) Glad you're back!
Keep practicing and learning and you’re going to get it! :) trust me, I shot b roll on my phone while doing laundry and ended up in Peter’s video. You can do it and I believe in you!
Don't compare yourself to Peter. Start to get 10 years more of consistent shooting experience, and then, you will be be able to say if effectively Peter is overly-talented or not... ok seriously he IS very talented so what?! That should inspire you to keep pushing and make YOUR style shine!!!
Peter, you couldn't be more right about a knife. I would encourage everyone to carry a knife, and to keep it properly sharp. They're such useful tools that people never realize how much they need until they have one! My current pocket knife of choice has been a Leatherman Skeletool CX, with the 1054CM steel blade and carbon fiber frame. The screwdriver bits and pliers are such excellent additions to a pocket knife.
I Always get something amazing from your videos, I build Cafe Racers on my channel in Australia and this video is super helpful. If you are not sure what Cafe Racers are its motorcycles not coffee lol 😂 the history of them came from cafes tho, The motorcycle I’m currently working on is the same one that’s in The Walking Dead and on your shelf in this video. Honda CB750 I don’t have the crossbow mounted to the back tho I started posting on RUclips only about 8 months ago and my channel has blown up :) almost 10,000 subs I’m so excited and grateful to you for all your tips and tricks that I’ve just picked up over the last few weeks of watching your videos Much love from accross the pond brother.
I know this video is not like you flying over Alaska or whatever. But I enjoyed it immensely - creating a story out of everyday tasks is more inspiring than exotic locations etc. More of this!!
• To bold a word, put *asterisks* around it. • For italics, use _underscores_ • For strikethroughs, put -hyphens- (or dashes) around the text. For bold and italic, try *_underscore, asterisk_*
Yeah, as I was being wowed by the aesthetics, lighting, and quality of the knife B-roll, I found myself thinking that the term "B-roll" in Peter's case is kind of a misnomer. His artistry elevates B-roll to A-roll...
I love watching your channel and how it has evolved. Especially, the style of storytelling in this episode specifically. It helps inspire me for my own videos and evolution on RUclips. Keep rocking it!
Re-watched this video and your energy is in this so commendable! I watch all of your videos and love 'em all but kinda miss this enthusiasm you had back in the day!! Wishing this comment finds its way to your eyes.
The only thing I have to say is I completely understand your pain regarding delivery times! I live 60km out of Melbourne, Australia. And I will never understand why it takes another full day, or sometimes 3 for packages to make it out to me, especially when I'm actually only 35 min drive from town.
Love you Peter but Matti is my favourite. He always looks so innocent but I am sure he probably isn't. LOL The cut scenes were hilarious. On a serious note, love your tutorials. They keep inspiring me, a complete amateur travel blogger turned vlogger, to make at least ONE THING better each time I make a video. Hopefully somewhere along this journey I transition from crappy travel vlogger to decent vlogger to awesome vlogger! Please keep creating for us smaller dreamers and not just for the professionals out there!
This video inspired me to fix a glaring problem in my own videos that I record in my home office. One of the walls is a pair of bookshelves to isolate the office from the living room. I don't record with wide angle lens because people can see into the living area and kitchen beyond. I'm going to hang blackout curtains from the ceiling to have a proper background.
Nice to see another custom knife aficionado! Thanks for creating a video about backgrounds. This is an area I was struggling and working with and your tips definitely help.
How did I almost miss the white sound panels!? Nice touch Peter. It wasn’t until I saw them that I thought, hey the sound is getting closer to the typical amazeballs sound I’m used to hearing from your channel.
Bro You seriously motivate me to go further with my photography , and also life itself , you are so full of life and I just spend nights watching your videos and being inspired by your talent and personality ! I adore your work and I’m your huge fan .. Keep on going forward man ! Pease !!! 😂🤪🤓🔥♥️
Daammnnn I've been wanting you to talk about knives forever!!! I've been carrying my Spyderco Delica 4 forever! I'm actually watching this while browsing BladeHQ seeing their new stuff! Kind of wanting to check out the new "We Knives" brand.
Why would you schlep the fridge all that way? Why didn't you drop it off right outside your doorstep and then take it upstairs? Were you that desperate for B roll? And if you do need the B roll, take the fridge out and THEN film the journey of the box.
It is crazy Peter just how much your background setting makes such a great difference. Also hope no one messes you about in the street then ha ha ha ha
So weird that we were just talking about backgrounds on vlogs, we’ve started a new channel and have setup a background to match our focus. Great tips again Peter
You made a good point near the start when you said you work with what you've got, but then you move on and say if you have things behind you, move them back to create depth. Some people simply don't have the space due to... a lack of space. Small rooms. Rooms taken up by everyone in the family. Lack of storage, so everything ends up crowded in the only spare room in the house that you happen to be using as an office. So, while you are indeed right in saying you work with what you've got, some people simply have limited options due to house size, room size, storage, family, finance, renting a property (not bought, therefore can't make structural changes to it such as adding shelving by drilling into walls). It's hard to create a 'set' depending on circumstance.
I think Peter must have had a record amount of coffee since the birth of his second child. Love the energy as always! Your videos inspire us all and you make even the simplest stuff seem amazing.
Check out my pal BRNLY - Hes rad :) OH! And, AND...TWEET me pictures of your filming set-ups! I wanna see!
Yes I will tweet you :1
Sure ✋😄
The white frame where the shelf was on still annoys tho .-. remove it 😂 haha
I've been following BRNLY on IG for a few years now... He has some stellar pieces. Funny that I found you though a whole different interest of film making. I love knives and photo/video too. Too funny.
Done. It’s pretty awesome how so many people can have so many different approaches to their setups!
"I wish there was something where you could order it and get it in like an hour"
A store. You want a store.
I know right? Like, dude. How old are you? It's the prices that he probably doesn't like at a store.... but it costs money to get there.
For someone that is just starting to make some interviews with people, background is just so important. It gives so much more personality to the video and creates a much more personal space. Thanks por helping with this.
Also, just love how you use so many angles to keep us engaged with what you're saying. Honestly, I just a learn a lot from you every time!
Matti's like "I'm done with these cut scenes", and yet they continue for the whole fridge journey LOLOL
Could people tell me what kind of background I could put in my videos ? (cause my background sucks right now !!) HELP ME OUT!! xpxp
Oliver J Hughes I love that I see your comments every time I watch a video ! Your trailer for your channel have me chills! Excellent work
RIP matti
Right! lol
makes no sense hay

Bad ass alright!

*BWHATSUP EVERYBODY* didn’t realize how much I’ve missed that
Katie Weinhold same haha
I have the feeling you guys are sponsored by redbull 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah and ouch! I saw a video of a guy trying to copy Peter I mean nice enough fellow but he should have watched the ‘don’t copy’ videos 🙈
Peter your last two videos are priceless, I love the seemingly random creative twists you're constantly adding - it makes such a difference! So exciting to see your new space developing!!
Thanks Pete. That's what I needed to learn.

Fridge noooooo where is coffee maker dude
Got like 4 in the cupboard :)
Peter McKinnon Why not 5th one bro 😁
Peter McKinnon I need one PETER
Pete IS the coffee maker haha ☕
It always cracks me up thinking about the stop/start and running forward/backwards to get all those shots. So even funnier when Matti said he’d had enough - although he’s never short of a few shots in his vids either

Aww thanks!!
Peter, I forgot to tell you, keeping our imagination alive is hard to do when you consider we are both in our middle 70's. :)
Sweet old people are the best :3
Appreciate the thought.
Jas Bataille Me me, that's me 👍
Peter, you built your old set so well that I have faith that you'll build this one just as good if not (somehow) better!
I love that I always leave your channel with advice I can apply straight away!!
Agreed! Always, always, always I get something out of the videos!
Can't get enough of these 10 plus minutes VLOGS keep it coming Pete 💯

"Just a small little detail" *unloads and deconstructs an entire shelf
You are the best at this. Instruction/conversation/friendship/great shots. Thank you.
Would LOVE a "behind the scenes" video about BRNLY... those knives are rad!
Ahh Pete, i am with you 100%, its all about the craftsmanship.. hand made with passion beats factory produced every time! same with coffee!! ;)

@memen Freeman then why are you here
Man your videos are so cool. Even when it's not something crazy exciting, you're still so entertaining to watch :)
My b-roll always looks like spring rolls whenever I compare it to Peter Mckinnons
Haha! Love it bro! I found that I should just keep pushing myself. Trying to up my game every upload!
I love spring rolls :)
Keep practicing and learning and you’re going to get it! :) trust me, I shot b roll on my phone while doing laundry and ended up in Peter’s video. You can do it and I believe in you!

Oh my gosh, if I could, I would give you All the thumbs ups for that opening sequence with the drill! 😂😂
Got a notification on my Mac saying 'Your Background Sucks - Peter Mckinnon' Thought you were trolling me then realised it was a new video 😂
Pete, I'm glad you're back! I've missed your craziness and creativity!
*_I can watch even one day long b roll of a knife by Perter Mckinnon_*

I need a fridge in my office, yall bout to make me go get one today, lol
I know this was two years ago but I gotta know... Did you get one?
The only thing I have to say is I completely understand your pain regarding delivery times! I live 60km out of Melbourne, Australia. And I will never understand why it takes another full day, or sometimes 3 for packages to make it out to me, especially when I'm actually only 35 min drive from town.
Woh... I am excited to see the fully furnished version of the office :)
Best of luck peter...
I started RUclips by taking inspiration from you :)
Really ... I am excited too for that
Hell yeah
same with me bud.
Best of luck bro
Background does look much better with that shelf gone. And you waving that knife around was cracking me up!
4:50 "Nothing competing with my head." lol!
The art of knife sharpening and honing an edge is one of the most satisfying parts of being an Outdoorsmen.
Ahhh this was such a good topic! I def need to work on my background! This is why I love Peter's videos....so informative and relevant!!
Love you Peter but Matti is my favourite. He always looks so innocent but I am sure he probably isn't. LOL The cut scenes were hilarious.

Waiting for mail is the WORST 😂

No it doesn’t, you take that back! 😁
I have to say man. Your title killed it. And thumbnail. I was scrolling through the results and yours really jumped out at me. This is a good lesson
I literally designed my living room to double a set. :D
Oh God, Peter you're so dramatic. You transform an insignificant scene into a huge movie scene, I LOVE IT! When I grow up I wanna be like you.
"If you're watching this and you built this, shame on you..." 😂 ....so amazing
Nice to see another custom knife aficionado! Thanks for creating a video about backgrounds. This is an area I was struggling and working with and your tips definitely help.
“Smash it 2018 style” didn’t hear it this time 😭
Eddy & Kate I'm not the only one that noticed then!
How did I almost miss the white sound panels!? Nice touch Peter. It wasn’t until I saw them that I thought, hey the sound is getting closer to the typical amazeballs sound I’m used to hearing from your channel.
I have experienced amazon prime, same day and it’s awesome👍
Great to see you back Pete. Hope the family is doing well. Congrats buddy, so pleased for you.
Hey your carrying the fridge WRONG you should Never tilt it sideways or upside down!!!!
Bro You seriously motivate me to go further with my photography , and also life itself , you are so full of life and I just spend nights watching your videos and being inspired by your talent and personality ! I adore your work and I’m your huge fan .. Keep on going forward man ! Pease !!! 😂🤪🤓🔥♥️
Audio sync is a bit off in some parts. Either its on my end or Peter is actually Human!😲
Peter is not human. He is a beast.
'could be a bit too much coffee.
Peter I love your energy man ! You're incredible
Who else got into RUclips because of Peter? Where are my other creators?
Vinnie Chu sameee!
Vinnie Chu I got into YT before I found him but he’s definitely inspired me to be more creative.
His tips and tricks are definitely helpful, but I think just watching his growth over time has inspired me to do what I didn't believe could happen.
i got into youtube before i could find him.. ever since i did, he has constantly been a major source of inspiration .
Yaaas!
Love your uploads dude, super helpful and very entertaining! Keep up the great work. I always feel inspired after watching your stuff!

Daammnnn I've been wanting you to talk about knives forever!!! I've been carrying my Spyderco Delica 4 forever! I'm actually watching this while browsing BladeHQ seeing their new stuff! Kind of wanting to check out the new "We Knives" brand.

It is crazy Peter just how much your background setting makes such a great difference.
Also hope no one messes you about in the street then ha ha ha ha
I'm into season 2! I think your story telling is getting so much better
You take the mundane and make it interesting. I appreciate that.
I've recently started a film review show and this video is very helpful in building my background. I'm still working on it thanks Peter
So weird that we were just talking about backgrounds on vlogs, we’ve started a new channel and have setup a background to match our focus. Great tips again Peter
Even put thoughts on the floor part of the package delivering. Nice work as usual Pe!!!
You inspire me so much Peter. Thank you for everything you do.
lol peter inspires millions of ppl just not only you
You made a good point near the start when you said you work with what you've got, but then you move on and say if you have things behind you, move them back to create depth. The new office is getting into shape nicely. But I do miss the old set! Cheers!!!
SO SO glad you are back!! Those knives are awesome, just checked them out!
I love how passionate Pete is about literally anything ❤
Peter personality make me smile every-time. Thanks pete
This background looks even better than the old one, keep going Peter!
SUPER SICK B-ROLL of the Knives-AND SUPER SICK LOOKING KNIVES!!!!
Just everyday things making them a little more entertaining for the rest of us Feels good that your really back The B Rooooollllsss are baaaack :D
Dude the knife flip made me flinch and tighten up, and yet I appreciate it.
Old school photography tips eliminate distracting elements from the background I like it
Great video Peter, thanks for keeping me inspired. Happy Canada day and have a wonderful long weekend!
