This run begins from a soft reset. This run does not use the level-reuse glitch (warping from level 5 to 1 instead of beating the final 4 levels of the game).
This was my Uncle Jimmy's favorite game. When I was a kid in the 80's I would watch him play this. Good memories.
LOL Same with my Uncle Ron! He gave the game to me, then a year after, bought me Iron Sword! :D

This game is easily one of my top five NES games. A much-loved go-to for some casual nostalgia. And... dear Lord! This god among gamers does this game in 17:04?! I'm still in the first stage 17 minutes in!
This game didn't make dog sense to me as a kid and I still feel the same as an adult... Good run tho
This was by far better than ironsword.
I was a small kid when I beat this in the 80s...it was SO frustrating (constantly falling and having to get EVERY chest...yes, I'm one of those.), that the *INSTANT* I beat it, I was done with it.
I can't even imagine playing it so much that I had it all memorized to the extent you do.

Jeez it took me hours to beat this game. Good way to waste an afternoon. That low health music still haunts me.
First time playing this was today, although I grew up with ironsword. Thanks for showing me where the key was after the spider boss, felt like I was jumping around the castle area for 30+ minutes

I used to freak out when I heard that 'warning music' anytime Kuros had only three notches of health. I loved this game back in the day. I beat it too, but admittedly, I used at LEAST five continues to do so :P Thanks for posting this and making VERY good use of the Boots of Force =)

I only played this game a few times as a kid and had spent more time with Ironsword (which I thought was insanely difficult). Question though, if this is a speed run why spend so much time gathering gems? Are they necessary to advance and I’m missing something? Great run and entertaining video!
You need certain amount of gems to access a door to the next level.
I remember searching for gems in this game to be pretty painful and tedious on some levels. NES Jungle Book used the same principle (also a great game).
So much better than some twitch bullshit.

I wish this game would have had more levels like the woods level, and outside the castle, instead of 4 straight levels of caves
This is the only game I ever did a speed run for. Me age 10 and my auntie age 18 had speed competitions after we beat this in the late 80’s. My best was about 23min and my aunt beat me at around 20.

Great run, I always dreaded the low health music because it was insanely repetitive!! It made me want to just let myself die if I knew I wouldn't be getting health any time soon

As a kid, I never got why he didn’t just cross the field to the castle rather than go straight to hell and back again. I know it was to save the damsels but the look of that field was frustrating as hell.
I remember how overpowered the Boots Of Force were! You can 1 shot a boss lol!
I played this game all the time as a kid. While watching him fight the first boss I let out a “What?!?” In 30 or more years I had never thought about using the boots to do more than open chests, haha.
Great run! I don't even know how I beat the game because I never picked up half of those power ups.
I think there is a shorcut between the first level to the last forest level, I think I saw it in nintendo force

Many people agree with you about the music. The gameplay in the first game, however, is superior. Plus, you know... nostalgia. ;)
