An honest amount of effort and time put in, but like most things you get out what you put in. This is a quality job that will look absolutely magic when established. Good work 👏
I was a greens keeper in the US we'd mix turkey milorganite and bent grass seed 50/50 through the spreader as the miloganite sticks to and carries the little bent grass seed a nice uniform distance when spreading. Plus its a nice mild fertilizer...depending on seed and time of year maybe 6 weeks later we were playing it.
Yeah, I don't know if you are using bentgrass or a POA seed but it helps broadcast if you mix the seed with something else and never spread if it's windy...it goes everywhere. We used the Penn varieties of grasses from Penn State University which were really robust bent grasses.
Yeah using a few bent cultivars for disease resistance. Going to hydro sow actually. Will mix it with some wetter kelp and water then pump it out with a house. Used to do our green builds like that on the course and it was awesome
I was thinking watching this Vid the amount of work even with the wee machines that is going into this project. Your passion is infectious and spreading Ben, looking at the nice comments below the Lawn Tips troops think the same. Bring on 2023 and have a great Hogmanay young man. Health and Happiness for you and the family.
Haha - I saw the second dog and thought - I thought there was only 1 dog 😎 This is an awesome series - I have an artificial green and this is fascinating to watch. I wish I was not in the US - would love to come and give you a hand. Thanks for doing this!
Really enjoying following your journey and the golf course build. Looking forward to seeing how the edges and the root barrier are finished, as much as the green surface itself.
Yo mate what up welcome to another lawn tip vid, have a good new years bro and look forward to the 'yo mate what up welcome to another lawn tip vid' making a comeback in the new year😂😂😂🤙
G'day Ben, This is looking awesome. Your excitement is becoming infectious for me anyway and I don't even play golf. So thanks for sharing keep up the great work. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne 3810 And happy new year to you and the family.
looking great and fascinating to see develop. Ive only ever worked on domestic lawns so I find this really amazing to watch. All the best for new year and to 2023!
This project has been absolutely epic so far. You should be really proud of yourself. Happy new year to you and the family. Looking forward to more top notch content in the new year!
Striperman, having a good time catching up with family and friends. I hope 2023 brings yourself and your family good health, laughter and lifelong good memories. Have a great day mate. 😎
A great project and it’s been great watching the progress of the whole property. It’s really taking shape. I hope you had a great Christmas and all the best for the New Year
Happy new year Ben green looks amazing, take it you will be mowing with a ride on when complete as it’s a beast can’t wait to see finished project all the best Craig 😊
Fascinating watching the development of the green Ben. Living in WA I know what you mean about the greens over here. The one thing that worries me slightly, having played golf for a number of years, is if you make the greens sand based and fast how difficult is it going to be to hold a ball with, what looks like, quite strong slopes and smallish flat areas (difficult to tell from the camera shots).
My 3year old and I Saturday tradition eating bacon and eggs and watching lawn tips, what’s your end goal with the property how many holes are you planning on having etc and are you hiring it out to the public? Great work 👍
I would love to have a green like this in my back yard WOW. Is there a reason why you didn't use the bobcat with a spreader bar to rough it in quickly?
Thanks mate! So the spreader bar is a little too wide unfortunately and would take out a lot of my little undulations and just make the green flat. Using the bunker rake allowed me to shape the green they way I intended it to be
Don’t know if I missed you mention it but what happens to the top part of the root barrier will you trim it down? Happy New Year by the way mate what a year it’s been ⛳️
Happy New Year! It's coming along great. Gunna be crazy how different this will look this time next year! You were saying the fence at the back of the green is coming down In the long term could a tee box be doable approaching from the backside? Trying to remember how ur property looks from the drone shots
Not really a spot from the back of the green unfortunately! That would be awesome though. I have some ideas for a few other tee boxes on the property though haha
Hey Ben....what sort of sand do you use? You have probably been over this topic before. I'm inspired to renovate my lawn at home and was wondering if I should use peat or a sandy loam which is PH Balanced. What is your recommendations?
When you say your going to seed the green. Pardon my idnorance but will that be a full green by seed or will you use roll-on. And seed to strengthen? Also what turf will you use for green and fairways etc
You have probably explained this before, but why did you decide on such a massive green? WOW, this is Augusta National size! Was it to give many different pin positions?
I have an impossible time just to get the whipper sniper and the ride on out to do my yard. Actually, I have a hard time going out the door. Lucky I can watch RUclips.
Heard you say Ryegrass, but could you do a quick explanation on why you’ve selected it? Is it because it’s what they use commonly in the States and in keeping with the USGA formulation? I’d love to know, thanks.
I’m using a bentgrass mix on the green. Will be a few different cultivars for disease resistance etc. I’m using ryegrass on the collars to prevent other grass types creeping into the green 👌🏽
@@LawnTips Thanks for replying. Will you build the tee boxes once the seeds are down? Also are you going to have more than one to vary the distance? I look forward to watching your future vids.
Nah, I’m not going to fumigate it. I’ll deal with the weeds by hand weeding if there is any. Should be ok though, was washed a few times and came from deep in a quarry
Question, how much money do you think you’ve spend and will spend of fuel for everything I know in an a different video you said something like 25k for everything from your pocket but how much on fuel?
I have questions... This is in Australia, but this green would never work in the Pacific NW of America. Greens need more bio matter - winters will kill sand greens, what about drainage and irrigation? You don't want the drainage flowing into the pond - easy to screw up a pond with fertilizer. Just curious what works in OZ... How many sprinkler heads? How many times a year will you be aerating the green? What are the temps like? Are multiple waterings a day needed? If you asked me how to build a green in OZ - the last method would be a sand green. Too fragile IMO.
Awesome. How will you get that final perfect smooth finish? Just an idea, grab a concrete screed with a spirit level in it and go over it by hand, the falls will become more obvious and the finish will be perfect.
When you’re in holiday mode and the only way you know it’s a Saturday is because there’s a new Lawn Tips vid out 👌😂
Haha… my thoughts exactly!
Daaaaaaang it’s looking so good bro 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
THE GRASS IS GRENER UNDER MY WEINER lol i love that, happy new year to you and yours!
I literally cannot wait to see you hit your first shot into this thing!!
That's some lump of a green 💚 Happy New Year from Ireland
Haven’t seen you work this hard in a while. Looks great!!
That first mow is going to be epic
An honest amount of effort and time put in, but like most things you get out what you put in. This is a quality job that will look absolutely magic when established. Good work 👏
I remember thinking your green next to your old garage was cool i cant wait for this to be done
All that work in 21 min 😉 best employee ever 😉. Ben happy new year. 🌱
Tilting the camera to show us the angle is on par with when you layed down on the kik to show us the angle 😆 love it.
Haha 😂

Love it mate! No milorginite over here but a few ammendments will be added to the seeding process 👌🏽

Thanks mate! I’ve really enjoyed all of the work in this build, great to look back and see how much is done. It’s satisfying for sure 👌🏽
2022 was a hell of a journey looking forward to 2023. Progress is looking mint 🤙
Good video. See ya next year.

Being in wa I’m pretty pumped to see how to handle growing grass on sand
Mate ending the year on a high!
What a huge amount of work. Have an awesome New Years eve.
Really enjoying following your journey and the golf course build. Looking forward to seeing how the edges and the root barrier are finished, as much as the green surface itself.
Oooh. I love a damp, freshly raked bunker (or pre-green) 😀
😂
It’s beautiful! And up the kuyu baby wooooooo!!!!!! Let’s goooooooooooooo
Should change your account name to kikuyu boi
😂
@@LawnTips the green will be awesome to watch come together, but my allegiance will always be with “The peoples Kuyu” 👍
It is really taking shape, well done. Even with the equipment there is still a lot of manual work involved.
100%! I’ve definitely got a bit fitter over the last 2 months haha
Happy new year Ben!
Yo mate what up welcome to another lawn tip vid, have a good new years bro and look forward to the 'yo mate what up welcome to another lawn tip vid' making a comeback in the new year😂😂😂🤙
Really enjoying these golf green vids
Merry Christmas to you and your family and have a wonderful New Year. Green looks great.
That was a lot of work again, looks great.
Thanks Allan!
Yo mate, that green is going to roll pure!
G'day Ben,

And happy new year to you and the family.
looking great and fascinating to see develop. Ive only ever worked on domestic lawns so I find this really amazing to watch. All the best for new year and to 2023!
I subbed years ago to watch you make that tiny green in your front yard and here you are building a giant ass one in your back yard 😂
This project has been absolutely epic so far. You should be really proud of yourself. Happy new year to you and the family. Looking forward to more top notch content in the new year!
New Yearsy Eve Aussie 😎. Ben, it’s all happening on the Lawn Ranch. 😎
Happy New Years Trevor . Hope all is well and 2023 brings you much health and happiness for you and your family mate

Looks great! Maybe roll a couple soccer balls or basketballs from various points around the green to show your contouring breaks.
Great suggestion
Happy New Year! So excited for this green!
Looks bloody awesome! 👌. Happy new year mate!
Love the fast forward motion. When you think you will have the Bent down bro?
Love watching the process on the green! But how’s the Kik coming along? Please keep us updated…
Vid out this week on the kikuyu 👌🏽
Happy New Years bro. Looking good man 👍💚🦸

Loving the progress vids. Playing Dad here, but do you always wear just a cap? If I didn’t wear a big hat I would be roast pumpkin by 3pm.
very cool
Yeah boooyy! Loving this! Can't wait for the first cut. What bentgrass cultivar did you select?
I have a blend in mind. Will reveal it once it’s time to sow 🤙🏼
Don’t know if I missed you mention it but what happens to the top part of the root barrier will you trim it down?
Happy New Year by the way mate what a year it’s been ⛳️
Once the green and surrounds are established I’ll cut it with a knife below the soil level 👌🏽
"As those in WA would know" hahah yes, yes we do, Perth sand is no joke 😂
Happy New Year!
It's coming along great. Gunna be crazy how different this will look this time next year!

All these machines & I’ve been doing my green & bunker by hand, only 120sqm but still 😂
What bent you going with? Penncross or pure Distinction?
At least it’s a bit smaller haha. Would be a big job mate!
Nah I’m going a blend of different cultivars. I’ll reveal what they are once I sow it 🤙🏼
Are you worried about algae in the dam from the fertiliser run of? Are you going to plant anything or add fish?
Hey Ben....what sort of sand do you use? You have probably been over this topic before. I'm inspired to renovate my lawn at home and was wondering if I should use peat or a sandy loam which is PH Balanced. What is your recommendations?
You had me at ‘azaleas’…
Perhaps I've missed it, but any plans for drainage? Also, what seed will you use?
Here is the vid I did on drainage 👌🏽
ruclips.net/video/6C4bedtow2I/видео.html
Plus I’ll be using bentgrass seed on the green
When you say your going to seed the green. Pardon my idnorance but will that be a full green by seed or will you use roll-on. And seed to strengthen? Also what turf will you use for green and fairways etc
Where can I find the usga document on greens?
Hey mate, it’s linked in the description of this video.
Here is the link as well: archive.lib.msu.edu/tic/usgamisc/monos/tipsforsuccess-2015.pdf
You have probably explained this before, but why did you decide on such a massive green? WOW, this is Augusta National size! Was it to give many different pin positions?
Wrote that before you mentioned the Augusta references. Lol
Weird looking bunker lol. Looks grouse mate
I have an impossible time just to get the whipper sniper and the ride on out to do my yard. Actually, I have a hard time going out the door.
Lucky I can watch RUclips.
Looking good, do the drop offs on the green cause any difficulties mowing?
They aren’t too drastic so won’t be a problem 👌🏽

Questions…..
What grass will you use and why did you select it

Okay.... if you're going with an Augusta theme.... we've got to name this hole.
Might have to do a live stream and ask for some ideas
That's a fine looking bunker 🤣
so what happens with the black plastic border thing, do you pull that out or cut it or what?
Cut it down below the soil level 👌🏽
Question, how much money do you think you’ve spend and will spend of fuel for everything I know in an a different video you said something like 25k for everything from your pocket but how much on fuel?
I’ve spend around $1K on fuel over the last few months on the green I’d say. Not cheap!
my other ride is a sandpro 3040
How did you get rid of the stakes?
Just pulled them out by hand 👍🏽
@@LawnTips but you knocked/hammered it deep into the ground
Just used my little man muscles and they popped right out
@@LawnTips ok, was it taxing or demand brute strength?
