Eddie Murphy is so underappreciated. He can do drama just as well as he can do comedy.
Yeah, pretty much. Starting with Pluto Nash and ending with Norbit, or whatever his most recent "comedic" atrocity was. He's much better as a dramatic actor at this point and should stick with that.
Or do another Beverly Hills Cop as an older, yet still crazy Axel Foley, with some young, straight-laced white comedian as the straight man. Reverse Lethal Weapon that shit.

This is based off a true story.
Mr. Church was hired as a private chef for a woman dying of cancer and her daugher.
In real life, Unlike the film, the mother survived the cancer.
Mr. Church remained as a positive part of their lives until he died. {Before the mother, in real life}
The daughter wrote the story, with some adjustments, hoping to attract a larger audience. she dedicated it to the disappointment of Mr. Church dying before being able to meet her daughter {that she believes he would have loved}
.... Did you think this was a depiction of some form of the "mammy" archetype/stereotype; perhaps you assumed that Eddie was an Uncle Ben type , simply because he has colored skin and played a man who worked for someone with white skin?
Even if that was the case, and Eddie was portraying someone living under jim crowe laws, working as a servant to ex-slave masters:
it isnt as though it is demeaning to anyone today {news flash: Racially structured slavery in the US HAPPENED! I SWEAR I'm not making it up!};
Or worse, promoting a false narrative/history.
It is based on reality, as gruesome as it and those who wrote it were.

In my opinion, this is one of Eddie Murphy’s best films. He rarely plays a dramatic role and is underrated as a dramatic actor. The critics missed the boat on this film. Two thumbs up👍🏽👍🏽 and 4-star’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Eddie Murphy is a genius! He can act, sing, dance and even do comedy! He can also make us cry. I hope this gives Eddie Murphy his long overdue acting recognition.
4/5 stars from me. The movie is a little short, about 2 minutes and 30 seconds, but acting was great and had some emotional moments. Good comeback for Eddie. Would recommend

This is one of the best movies I've seen. Eddie is simply amazing. Never has my heart been so invested. Tears streaming down my face my whole heart felt the love in this story.

the trailer should have kept Mr Church mysteriouslike in the film. And for the spoilers, you are right they should have set the right tone. In the begining it looked like another EM movie.
Overall the film was one of the simplest yet most touching i have ever seen.

just couldn't hold back the tears on this one, reminded me so much of my own plight in the 90's uk of nursing my partner muriel for 18 months at home with cancer cos she refused hospital treatments. this was 4 years after our daughter died in a road accident in yorkshire. there will be many people here who can relate and it's beyond tough not only nursing a terminal loved one but also watching them slowly fade away. muriel is now buried in the very same grave as emma as i fought the church and their regulations to get this done. this is the most heartfelt movie truly ❤️ to all the people here who have suffered loss or who are going thru this trauma 💥❤️

People should watch this... More than twice.... It has so many tiny lessons in it.. They go by as quick as life does... So you have to have your mind set on every little blessing in this... Everybody makes mistakes but still the key is to care... This is a very caring movie.. You'll find out that family does come from the heart of understanding love. 🥰🥰🥰😘 2022 let's bring love back. Since Mr. Church is one of the many Eddie Murphy movies that are in my possession; I have just watched it for the wah-zillioned time, and *still* it leaves me in tears. Although, I have been a loyal fan of Eddie Murphy, for *many, many* years, and have *totally* loved his humor, I'm totally enthralled with his portrayal of Mr. Church. 💖 Eddie Murphy is a genius. Much love to him, and this has no bearing on the fact that I'm white and a woman. He is an amazing actor.❤
First I want to start by saying this is Oscar Worthy. This is the best and favorite role I have seen Eddie Murphy play. It warmed my heart and for what I understand it is based off a true story. A man who is so talented and seems perfect but an unresolved issue like we all have. it reminds me of a spanish saying. When a person is quiet the music is inside. Meaning good or bad but it is inside. Another person who had to forgive himself in order to move forward. Do not overlook this one it is special. This is about life and how our lives interact with each other. We have so much to give each other if we open our hearts. We live in a time where everything is computerized. Stop and take time to talk to your neighbor. We are all in each others lives for a reason. We just need to be open to it. My favorite -" I guess live had other plans for me". (Hopefully a sound track).

Eddie Murphy is one of my favourite childhood actors. This movie was awesome it felt so wholesome to watch.
I've been a fan of Eddie Murphy since SNL, Beverly Hills Cop, etc. But, most of all, I love his movie Mr. Church. I keep this movie very close and easily accessible. I watch it often, because it's such a powerful movie, and has such a wonderful impact on my life, and outlook. Such an awesome movie. ❤

My mother died of cancer 2 years ago she battled it for 8 years. I was 20 and have four younger siblings the youngest my sister who was 10 at the time. I thought my mother was the most beautiful person in the world too just like Charlie would say about her mother. This movie was beautiful and is my favourite movie hands down. Balled my eyes out for the first time in years. Absolutely beautiful to say the least. Family is everything, blood or not.

Just caught this movie tonight and watched it for the THIRD time. A deeply moving love story and, life story of people connecting in the worst of circumstances and, finding "family" in the process. The depth of Eddie Murphy's acting in this role gave me a new found appreciation for his dramatic and emotional range and ability as an actor. I was disappointed that he didn't win (or even get nominated) for an Oscar for his acting in this movie. And, as I just learned, the movie it is somewhat based on a true story lived by the woman who wrote the script: Susan McMartin.

Not horrible at all, has a plot and you follow a journey of trust, friendship and celebration.
Eddie Murphy's characters make you think about realities. No over the top humor for Mr. Church but sorrow lurks beneath the surface that he continually tries to stow for no one to see.

Yes, of course I do. I work in the movie industry and I've rewatched alot of movies for their great performances. I wasn't really a hundred procent serious. It was mostly a remark about my feelings for the editing of trailer, as I do feel alot of trailers tend to spoil the movie they're promoting by telling to much of the story.

This is one of those film I will want to own forever Eddie Murphy plays this with great feeling some sad bits some funny bits but must some where in the film are parts of all our lives hope they release the sound track. Its true music helps you cook so much better .

I do wish we could see him in more dramatic roles, like with Ferell in Stranger Than Fiction and Carrey in Eternal Sunshine he can really act when he puts his mind to it.
