Finally a modern rundown of the setup 'within' the modeller. Everyone is using modellers now while touring so rig rundowns are becoming less interesting when they just say 'we use axe fx' and thats it... Learning the artists tools within these units is what we all want to replicate these tones and keep us watching. This is a great start. thank you!
yep. Theyre likely running Ableton, or Cubase since I know Misha uses that in the studio, for backing tracks and midi que changes on the Axe units. All pretty much programmed in and likely there are fail safes too. It's gotta be a blast to setup and run stuff like that.
When he played the clean Satellites riff....I mentally travelled back to 2020 trapped in my room listening to this beautiful song...My god man I instantly remembered why I love this band so much. Thank you for this video
yep same. I saw them in January 2020 just before Covid. It was like the last amazing memory I had before the world went fkn crazy. That show was incredible and the Hail Stan album is still my fav.
@@OttophilI think you like Eddie and don’t even realize it. Most of the heavy music today is somehow inspired by Eddie either directly or indirectly. Don’t forget your roots, son.
This bands accomplishment really does include their ability to create these clean tones with space and synth pad sounds via guitar. Their heavy tones are amazing, but the balance is acheived musically when they add these clean parts that allow breadth for the song. Well done Mark. I always enjoy your videos.
Marks so humble, saying he doesn’t think Periphery is known for their “prettier” or spacier songs. At least for me Periphery has always been immense, emotional soundscapes set to the most confusing-yet-amazing rhythms imaginable, and Satellites encompasses that perfectly. It’s the perfect distillation of what makes Periphery, Periphery in my opinion.
It was because of Mark's lesson on another video that I started really getting into Periphery. I love all of the guys in the band and their willingness to inform everyone about the music, production, and business side of the industry. Awesome video and awesome playing.

Mark seems like such a cool dude. Love hearing him share his tones and playing. Anyone notice that his cadence is very similar to Paul Gilbert? I fee like they have similar voices lol.
Great interview. It would have been extra cool to hear what amps and cabinets are used in the patches since this is that type of audience. Are there plans to release some of the files on Axechange? Thanks!
I only know who Holcomb is because i was looking for a pickup to buy for a guitar that I have. I was eyeing out Seymour Duncans as I had a BC Rich that I put an SH-8 in and when the neck broke, I got a Jackson King V and slapped that SH-8 in there but while looking for said pick up I came across the Scourge pick up and watched a video about it and decided to get that one, my surprise when I realized it was a signature pick up of this artist here when I got it in the mail and saw the picture in the box. I've been enjoying the pick up quite a lot
What the fuuuuuckkkk. Mark is my favorite guitarist of all time, but sometimes I forget how fucking insane he is. Everything he writes speaks to my soul.
Best guitar kit available…a PRS Guitar and a Fractal Axe FX III Turbo modeler! I have been playing over 50 years and only discovered how great this combination is a few years go. I would never go back to anything I played in the past.
His approach, despite any commercial factor that only made him landed the SE version with PRS Company, validates some of my gear setup. Decent and well set up (action, intonation, etc) guitar + Proper amp (tube, digital simulator with good IR) is your thing. Rather than expensive guitar with cube amps and their 4-6 inch speaker :(
Last one of these I watch. If we aren’t able to try the settings ourselves, these videos are nothing more than shilling. I expect a Misha video will be released next, also with no useful information.
Wild take man. Seeing artists enjoying and discussing gear is the reason a lot of people watch these. No useful information? Wild. If you learn nothing from watching videos like this, it's more on you. Glad you know so much that these kinds of videos are so beneath you😂.
What do you want? Him to come to your house personally and program your Axe-fx? He’s given you the idea of having various clean sounds, a basic rhythm tone with 3 different levels of gating for different uses, ideas for an octave rhythm part, and a solo sound. Find what sounds good to you and make your own versions.

Drop C sharp actually.. but it is all time. THE flanger riff!
He must really love that riff, I remember him playing it at a meet and greet at one of their 2014 shows.
