I get this smell every year that we open the pool. It’s filled with fresh water and then chlorine is added before opening. Nobody even has the chance to pee in the pool and it smells like it. 🤷🏻
Oops… you need to define, ”fresh water” you won’t smell chlorine in pure water. The source water for my pool has 2.5 ppm combined chlorine in it and I can smell it in a glass of ” fresh water” Always, test your source of water.
Too bad they are wrong. It's normally when chlorine is reacting to ammonia, which is also from sweat and lots of other things that you find naturally. In a public pool, I don't doubt that someone peed in the pool, but that's also coming from people laying there or playing, getting too hot and sweating, then deciding to cool off in the pool. Bather load puts a large strain on chlorine, in whatever form it comes in, so saying it's just from pee is super misleading.
Right….He is not telling the whole story. If the chlorine is not bound to the water it will dissipate with in a day. Just because it smells like chlorine does not mean it’s pee.
Everytime i see a video like this, they never involve Muriatic acid in the experiment (for good reason as if moxed improperly can provide some toxic fumes) which is what causes that pool smell.
Chlorinated water does not smell! It's the toxic trichloramine you're smelling in the pool, caused by a chemical reaction of chlorinated water and nitrogen from pee!

The uranic acid from the urine is mixing with the Sodium hypochlorite in the chlorine and causing a reaction aka the smell
