    I have owned these exact boots as well as several other Chippewa boots. They’re great boots! Look good, comfortable, and no long break-in period like other brands I’ve owned. But this boot lasted me less than 1 year. Mind you, I wear my boots everyday in all manner of conditions. Snow, mud, driving, kicking around the office, etc. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another pair at all! But if you’re like me and you wear your boots everyday these will not last 5 years. Your dog really is awesome. Thanks for the review.

      Perhaps buy two pairs so you can rotate and let the boots breath and dry out. Wearing the same boot every day builds up sweat and moisture and that degrades the boot. Use shoe trees to stretch them and the cedar wood can dry them out as well.

    My boot journey started with this very pair of Chippewa boots and then I bought the redwing iron rangers and the roughnecks followed by Truman boots and finally a couple of pairs of Nick's boots. My understanding is boots has come a long way since I used to adore my chipping boots and I simply can't seem to ever want to wear anything of less quality than the Nick's boots anymore. The construction,the materials used, the mileage off those Nick's boots are insane and you can add to that the comfort of wearing them ,plus the aesthetics itself. I appreciate your review on the Chippewa boots and I believe that you've made that transition from that perspective you held 5 years ago. I'm a Nicks, White's and Wesco guy now and hope to understand the finer details of boot craftsmanship and own a pair of Viberg boots now and probably a pair of flame panda boots. Cheers

    I bought the Original Chippewa 6 Inch Service Boot in oxblood almost 3 years ago as my first investment in a good pair of boots -- to this day, I absolutely love them. They still see heavy rotation in my wardrobe and still look/feel amazing, even in comparison to my Red Wings, Oak Streets, Red Wings, and other heritage boots. A wonderful purchase which I highly recommend to someone wanting to get into the boot game.

    Just received the boots today. Got them for $130 thanks to eBay! So far the boots fit perfectly and are pretty comfy. I wear a size 10 in running shoes, I bought these in a size 9 Wide and fits on point. Enough space on side and not feeling tight or narrow. Length size I prob have 1/4 of inch space between boot and toes. Can’t wait to break them in!

    In my humble opinion (I know I am a few years late) this is one of the better reviews, mainly because of the dog.. But seriously, I have seen some reviews for Whites, Nicks, and other boots. I have no doubt they are amazing boots and I have been very lucky and blessed I could afford a pair but $600 for a pair of "work" boots just hurts the heart for me. I worked as a mechanic, did 20 years in the Navy as a aircraft mechanic and now work around the house and rebuild cars in the shop. There is no way a hard working family can afford those high end work boots instead of putting food on the table or even just a little vacation/special night out money. This is where the Red Wing line and other similar price points come in handy and you can still get great boots. yet some of the reviewers unintentionally advertise for these top end boots that IMO the target audience can't afford (actual working people) then they are fashion boots period.
    As stated, most people aren't going to go working on a construction site where you can get paint, cement, oil, items all dropped on your $600 boots. Not without complaining about it, that is for sure. The poor intern/appretace is the real person who needs $600 boots so they are not all stoved up when they are 50 (about the time you really should be able to afford them).

    Chips are more than what i need. I love their quality and fit. I have their packer, wellington, and Bay Apache logger. Im not in construction nor do i work as a firefighter or national park ranger so i dont need Nick's or White's level of construction. Chips are mkre than my needs, especially now that im retired.
    These appear to he Chip's version of Red Wings Iron Rangers and Wolverines 1000 Miler boots.

    Nice review, love the dog! I am really perplexed as to what "heritage" boot to get, Iron Ranger, 1000 mile or this Chippewa. I did see some recent review about quality control issues with the Chippewa's, e.g. the heal twisting apart from the boot, seams coming undone, etc... have you noticed any QC problems like these with your Chippewas? Thx, and Happy New Year.

    • @primermag
      @primermag  4 года назад

      I haven't had any issues like that. Between those 3, you'll end up with a great pair of boots. Main factor to consider is how rugged you want them to look. In order from most rugged to most refined it would be Chippewa > Iron Ranger > 1000 Mile.

    Chippewa books are great quality as soon as you pick up a pair you can feel the quality. However I have had a couple pair of their 11" engineer boots with steel toe and those have both been the most uncomfortable boots ever, I cannot wear them longer than 20 mins have to take them off. Anyone have a similar experience with Chippewa Engineer boots ? They look great and are the most Rugged Engineer boot you will ever find, received many compliments by strangers but again hard to wear them longer than 20 mins, big bummer , Peace

      I just bought a pair of those Ellison boots locally about 1 month ago. (April 2021 = closeout = 1/2 price) I really like them, but have a question. = There is a slight roughness (not smooth) to the APACHE leather, I like that, but not sure what to use on them. Boot Oil? Neatsfoot Oil? Conditioner? Saddle Soap? What have you used on yours? How did it affect the leather? Did you like the results? They say don't use many of those products on Suede, Nubuck or roughout type leathers. (???) Thanks.

      @@jims1942 When I started buying them around 2003 I believe they were not rough like,but they did change towards the end I think around the time that Chippewa was bought out.I usually got 3 years out of them and used them hard for work in a wood shop.I never treated them.

    “Give me belly rubs, hooman!” Looks like the boots have held up really well. Curious to know your thoughts about the “tribes” aspect of the boot brands and what they say. I have 2 pairs of Thursday boots I’ve worn for about 2 years now; I’ve only had 2 people say something about them in that time.

    • @primermag
      @primermag  5 лет назад +1

      haha! Not so much the brands but the styles. For example, AE wintip boots vs Lucchese cowboy boots is a more obvious example. Red Wing Iron Rangers are more Americana/rugged/country and Thursday Boots suede chelseas are more sleek/dressed up/city. I have like 4 pairs of Thursday Boots and love them. The olive suede captoe is probably one of my most worn boots.

    I've owned these for 5 years too now. Mine don't look as good as yours but I still love them. Few months back, I bought Wolverine 1000 mile boots for $200 CAD from a store that was closing, so no returns. I wore them 3 times and all three times, I got nasty blisters on my heel, from the top of the curve on the heel of the boot on the inside. I removed the insoles that came with the boots, and put in my own orthotic insoles and I think the height of the soles is what's causing the issue since I'm not fitting into the heel curve. Now i'm afraid to wear them, and I'm afraid i just wasted 200 bucks on them. Any advice? I'm thinking of getting some custom insoles for them, maybe that can solve my problem

    • @primermag
      @primermag  5 лет назад +1

      nbafanboi23 ah that’s a bummer. You can try this lacing technique that helps with heel slippage. This may be part of the breaking in process also. Boots like this can be uncomfortable until they bend and crease and form to your foot. However, there is obviously a threshold to how much discomfort you should have to go through for a pair of expensive boots! www.primermagazine.com/2014/learn/use-this-simple-lacing-method-to-make-your-boots-fit-better
