  • Although several hurricanes have struck Palm Beach County, none caused as much loss of life and property damage as did the catastrophic 1928 hurricane. This storm was equal to a Category 4 hurricane. Strong winds and heavy rain caused Lake Okeechobee to overflow.

I’m a life long resident of Central Florida for 38 years old. I’ve seen hurricanes come & go. May I also say that “lake” is a sinkhole sea. Who knew a “lake” could fuel a massive catastrophic rotating storm you can’t fight or defend yourself against. Just went thru Ian & Nicole which reminded us all of 2004 when we had 4 storms in like 2 months time span…Utterly ridiculous event. What are the odds of repeating 2 hurricane paths both events exactly 44 days apart between storms only 18 yrs later in freakn November believe me it can happen. Those ppl had no idea that hurricane was coming.

Great video but I have to disagree with the declaration that it’s one of the largest lakes in the world. Canada alone has 26 lakes larger than Okeechobee. There are over 50 in other countries larger than it. Okeechobee is the 3rd largest in the Lower 48.

Who is the presenter here, and what is the title of his book. My family lived on the west shore of Lake Worth across from the Boynton Inlet and were out in the hurricane for about 1.5-2 hours. This is a huge event in our a.family's history.

Why didn’t they put up a grave marker? It had to be done for them? They couldn’t do it themselves?

There were many poor white farm workers killed as well. My mother was born in Canal Point (Sand Cut), Fl & was 1 yr old at the time of the ‘28 hurricane. The mass grave had whites as well as blacks of all ages so you should not have portrayed that blacks were the only ones unidentified.
My maternal grandfather helped with the body recoveries & mass burial. My maternal grandmother helped many of the survivors with basic needs of food & clothing as best she could as my grandparents barely had enough as it was. They were among those white poor farm workers but knew how to share & help others, no matter their color/race.
If you’re going to do a documentary, get your facts correct and complete before you put it out there to insinuate that once again favoritism was shown to whites.
