The two activists mentioned in the article are the two top people in the same organization, A4TE. This NYT article that features them is why one of them, the director of what was previously called NCTE, gained the nickname, "Mara Quisling". NCTE imploded when the entire trans staff quit because Mara was anti-union and racist. That created such bad press she decided to merge with another similar group to form A4TE, or "Advocates for Transgender Equality". She and the executive director of A4TE Rodrigo Heng-Lehtinen are the "activists" the headline is referring to who are calling for trans people to step back, not forward and stop being so confrontational about being legally erased from society. This is essentially the two of them speaking for the entire trans community. NCTE and Mara Quisling were previously perhaps best known in our community for agreeing on a call with Gill Foundation to stop fighting for bathroom equality in 2016 in return for Gill funding grants.
I wish i had your strength, Dr. Jamie. I grew up in a hard environment, served in the military for 21 years, and served in combat as a fuel hauler for a year. I've seen and done things people shouldn't have to experience. I stumbled through life as someone different from my actual self. As i started my transition, my views also changed. I'm past the point of fighting. I just want the last good years I have in me to be peaceful and reasonably happy. Yet, people here in the US think I'm an abomination and evil because I'm not like them. I have been more nervous going into a bathroom (either gender) here, than I was hauling 7500 gallons of jet fuel through Baghdad. I can't wrap my head around the hatred and ignorance of my gender identity. I can't understand why it's a big deal. Dr. Jamie, you all continue the fight. This old Marine is tired.
Hate can make the world feel really small. I feel blessed my heart is open and I’ve found myself. So many of us never do. I feel sorry for those who choose to hate us to guard their own fragile egos. Don’t give up. There are still those in the world who see you. Their light is eternal.
I’m so sorry how scary thing are right now for trans people. I don’t actually think most people have ever even considered “transness” or the experience of trans people. There are absolutely very loud, very powerful bigots who are adamant in their persecution of trans people, but I truly don’t think they are a very big percentage of regular people. But because most people don’t really ever even think about or meet trans people, they are more susceptible to believing at least a little of that very loud bigotry. And it is on those people to educate themselves to some extent, but I really admire people like Dr. Jamie who have the experience and knowledge and ability to help educate the normies. Please don’t think you aren’t just as strong as Dr. Jamie, though! From what you shared, you must be very strong to still be here, and I’m so glad you are! It’s ok to focus on having some joy and peace in your life. We only get one life here, and we must all take care of ourselves to even be able to help take care of others. It’s so important to give yourself all the joy and peace that you can, especially when you know you have had a rough go of things. Remember to be kind to yourself. 💜 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Thanks for mentioning this Dr Jamie. As you may know, Canada and the U.S. share a near symbiotic relationship, which I absolutely love. But I must say that as a trans woman myself, and as a Canadian, I am shocked by this growing group of bigots who seem more concerned about gendered bathrooms than the education their kids receive. I work on both sides of the border and as such, I'm well in tune with American history and politics from an American perspective and as an outsider. The issue as I see it, is of course division and control attained by appeasing the masses with fear they didn't know they had. It's sensationalism. No different than anywhere in the world, I guess, but this time, we are the target and because of this fairy new social media empowerment, misinformation is getting out of control. I fully agree with you that we don't have the luxury of doing nothing. I fight misrepresentation of our community with kindness and logic in hopes to educate everyone, especially those whose only concept of trans individuals are these ridiculous depictions portrayed by bottom feeders like Sky and Fox news, and not of well adjusted women like the vast majority of us. I contact local reps and work colleagues often with concerns that may get their attention, but I also do it to position myself as someone they can feel comfortable enough ask questions about our community. It goes a long way! ...You would be surprised at how many people we interact with that - for whatever reason - feel uncomfortable about asking basic stuff that would dispel the mystery they hold trans individuals against. So again, thanks for bringing this up. We absolutely need to do more ourselves and dismantle the growing misinformation and defamation from within our immediate circles and beyond.
" Canada and the US share a relationship....As a Canadian I am shocked by this growing group of bigots" There is nothing suprising about the anti trans backlash. Its very present in Canada too and has been for awhile ala Jordan Peterson ,Rebel news etc. It was obvious to me 8 yrs ago that laural hubbard prior to her Olympic run , was going to become a very effective tool by the right against transgender rights in general.
Canada has its fair share of bad actors, including some sexologists I will not mention by name. However, statistically speaking, Canada is still a safer place for trans people. There is less discrimination and violence against us and more discrimination protections.
@@DrJamieTalks. I just realized what happened yesterday Dr. Jamie. First off, my kids are always scolding me to “check” what I type before I hit send. This isn’t the 1st time I’ve gotten in trouble for not doing so. Then, I type with my 2 thumbs on my phone, so I am realizing I obviously didn’t press down my left thumb on the S enough, then I didn’t check, as I should have. I love you, and hope you can forgive my dingbatitis. ❤😘. You are very special to me, especially because of the loss of my dear neighbor to gender dysphoria. I would rather die than hurt you, or any trans person. Have a Happy Thanksgiving . 🦃
Fellow Canadian here (albeit cis)! Completely agree with and sympathize with everything you wrote. Luckily from what I’ve seen the anti-trans hysteria of the US doesn’t seem to have the same popularity in Canada, but we still absolutely have to be wary of its potential spread.
Amen. Not sure what I can do right now (since I've been in a really bad autistic burnout), but I'm trying to at least keep showing "positive representation" by being openly enby in public.
I agree 100%. I am so glad that I live in New Zealand where acceptance of others is more prevalent. There is one thing that I think is different however to the Jin Crow laws (apologies if I spell this wrong) - There were more black people then than there are trans people now. And they all stood up for themselves together, along with their allies. We need these laws, we need these protections and we also need others to come alongside and support. This is what I fear, that we won't find that support.
❤❤❤ thank you again..In, Australia-were down to just one State not in line, this being NSW on the Equality ( revised/ Amendments) Act. Did pass about a 6-8 weeks ago, by just 3 votes. @@ReikkiKyraJonsun It is so hard to here that this is the case. For some reason, and I don't know why, I thought NSW was more liberal than that. To have people thrown under the bus like this, especially when your and other are born like this, and so often forced into gender conforming surgeries as new-born babies is distressing to hear. I am glad that you are here with us to tell your story and highlight what is going on in Australia. Good morning, Jamie! Erin Reed just share the news that the French society of pediatric endocrinology and diabetology just published an initial set of recommendations for professionals involved in the hormonal transition of trans youth. an initial set of recommendations for professionals involved in the hormonal transition of trans youth These appear to have been extensively researched by a variety of individuals and are an important counter to the Cass Review. I think part of the problem is that none of the papers are likely truly left wing, and if you look at how they are funded (with some of them being loss-making and funded by the likes of Rupert Murdoch who negatively affects both our nations), it answers so many questions. It sounds like our equivalent of your NYT is the Guardian and to me that's a very centrist paper. I think YT is slowly taking the place of legacy media, though, and that's having an impact, though of course we still have to contend with an algorithm that selects Piers Morgan-style drivel above stuff that's actually good. Although it's good to see his arse gets handed to him every now and again!
Thanks for the comment. It’s like the NYT and the Guardian are in a cage fight to see who can be more transphobic in their opinion columns. And yes, Piers Morgan is a bunghole. 🤣
