What is the crime of the century? Easy. The crime of the century is that Lute Duo has over 1.5 million views, but only 5K subscribers. Are people today emotionally deaf? I don't care about the background noise.... This video is pure gold.
Thank you to the person who recorded and posted this, who I expect, was in the audience of one of no more than 20, judging by the feeble applause. 1.6 million views and 10 years later. Pretty much exponential growth. Beautiful music.
For all those who want to know the names of the these talented artists are: Anna Kowalska baroque Guitar and Anton Birula theorbo."Lute Duo" is the name of their group.

Ms. Kowalska's playing from 2:49 till 3:03 is absolutely amazing. I've never heard a more satisfying, awesome baroque-era vihuela playing. Props to her and Mr. Birula as well! Big ups from Northern California. Bravo!!
she is great, I agree, there is also a man, called marco meloni, he is also great on baroque guitar, for me the very best in the world eventhough he is not famous at all. check on youtube his chaconne, folias, jacaras, canarios ... (from a live concert in japan) best wishes
Absolutely fascinating! I love the combination of batoque guitar and theorbo! Too bad that there is so much background noise. Those two deserve a better soundquality!
Tres belle musique et de bons musiciens. J ai pratique la guitare il y a bien longtemps avec de grands maitres et je retrouve le dynamisme et la joie degagee par cette musique, Merci,
beatyfull i compliments ihope i get over all my obsticals an manege and diciplin myself to learn to play somting so beatyful ,i must say again this music sounds timles in some kind of way to me i hear nature in it very relaxing also and inspiering thanks for posting the sound and film
Could anything sound more perfectly romantic than Eric & Sylvia singing madrigals in medieval French? They were invited to a castle in the Loire valley, the wallpaper behind them was faithfully restored like the original couple's initial motif wallpaper.Their voices blend so sweetly,I return to this clip almost every chance I get. They are such cute lovebirds as well!
Extraordinaria interpretación, ¡¡Felicidades!! Las piezas que se escuchan son: Santiago de Murcia (Códice Saldívar Nº 4, ca. 1732): - (00:27) Marionas - (04:27) Folías gallegas Gaspar Sanz (1640 - 1710) ("Instrucción de música sobre la guitarra española", Zaragoza, 1674): - (10:00) Rujero y Paradetas - (13:14) Tarantela - (15:52) Canarios Un saludo ;)
Never heard that one before. LOL! Her words are far older than her wisdom/experience deficit allows her to realize, going back literally a thousand+ years of musical history in which the same phrase was used, translated topically to things like: "new music sucks", as many often say. Same old story, different era. The greatest and most influential composers throughout music history were met with the same comments (by some). And even more recently, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and every other innovator was spoken of in this same way: "No depth and substance" being terms sometimes used. Today, some of them are revered. Musical giants. Legends. It doesn't take a genius to see that some (not all, thankfully) of today's music will be legendary too, many decades from now. Wonder which ones though? Certainly not the cheesy stuff. But then, doesn't every decade have a large amount of dreadful and disposable pop music? Which will be remembered, and which will fade away? Let's hope our descendants are smart in their choices of whom to respect from this era...avoiding abominations like Lady Gag-Gag, Justin Beiber, or Taylor Swift.
I'd die to be able to play like this ... it is just fantastic -- those base notes from the theorbo are just wonderful .... and the guitar is so beautifully played .. !
This is what youtube is for. I stumbled upon these two great musicians while watching a luthier video. Truly great playing, just ordered the cd from their site.
These are instrumental stylizations of dance rhythms of the 16th &17th Cs. This duo adds modernisms to the fray. Very good playing. The bass instrument appears to be a chittarone which is a bass lute with metal bass strings (note their length). The chittarone was developed in the late 16th C. for accompanying the voice and was used later in ensembles, a very Italianate feature. There is a separate literature for the bass lute instruments of which there are several.
คณพศ ซ้วนตั้น And this is being typed at 9 PM Pacific Time here in southern California, with heavy rain outside, warm inside this home, with three happy cats, so I think I will re-listen to tg this upload tonight.

I like how these pieces were all dance pieces, and now all people do is sit down and listen to it.
There are other videos on RUclips of people dancing to these tunes, f.ex. Gaspar Sanz' "Canarias".

I searched for music for the theorbo and found this. enjoying.

Is that Weiss what I think I heard?
Thank you.
I'm amazed at how "contemporary" these songs sound. Simply beautiful.
I «discovered» the lute 55 years ago thru the recordings of Julian Bream. I am still enchanted by this instrument.
What music are they playing, era, composers?
Fantastic!
