Xbox ! Especially if the rumors about an open system to other stores are confirmed, with not only Xbox games but also Steam and PlayStation games! And don't forget that Xbox has a more active community than PlayStation, with a higher volume of MAUs. Moreover, PlayStation's image is deteriorating more and more, just look at their pricing policy over the years, the absurd price of the PS5 Pro, the prices of accessories, the price of remasters, the abandonment of the PSVR2, the PS5 Pro scam, etc. They have pushed the hardware angle too far, to the detriment of the games.
And Xbox also has the advantage of Game Pass, backward compatibility, Play Anywhere, the number of first-party games, and even the number of exclusives (yes, do the math).
Moreover, the sales of the PS5 console do not bode well for the rest, just look at the poor sales of the PSVR2 or the PS Portal, the poor sales of the PS5 Pro, etc. The purchase of the home console is almost automatic for many casual gamers who only play Fortnite, FIFA, Call of Duty but buy nothing else and do not buy other hardware either. Given the support for the PSP and PS Vita, for the well-being of the players, they should avoid scamming them again, just like the abandonment of the PS VR 2. It seems that some people still do not understand PlayStation's policy!

I don't think playing PC games on a handheld is a good idea. I only see Steam working through the cloud somehow. PC games need way too much power to run properly. The 4080 and 4090 already struggled as it is, the dame way the steam deck also struggles. Unless you don't care about playing steam games at 720p

Do you think that product is going to sell a significant number of units? How many? What will that do for the trajectory of Xbox's business? What is the TRUE MS userbase, when you add those system-less Gamepass subs on to Series X's current 30M?

MS has to invest too much to make a portable version of Windows/Xbox OS and they don’t want to put anymore money into a hardware ecosystem that’s already failing.
Similarly, I can’t see Sony actually releasing a handheld after the failure of Vita unless they get into some broad strategic alliance with Apple where they can integrate the PlayStation OS with MacOS and use Apple’s scale in hardware to reduce their costs.
Sony is apparently in regular communication with Apple and Apple is going to lose a ton of money not exclusively selling microtransactions for their apps in their store so they may be looking for a partner to improve their profile in gaming and movie/series streaming. Destin the first thing you have to do when you ask if someone will be successful is define success. You have to define success in the eyes of Xbox and PlayStation. Success looks very differently for both of them. Failure looks the same.
Xbox needs this far more than Sony does. They have lost the console war they can never catch up in that particular category so they need to do something different. They need to put their games everywhere. This is a chance for them to say look we are everywhere. A flop does them more harm than a flop would do PlayStation. Just to consider if the PlayStation handheld fails people would still say I can still play my PlayStation. If an Xbox handheld fails, Microsoft has to find another way to get their games in the hands of more people. Notice how success can be very different for each company.
Sony will have the hardest time at this. Not because it won’t sell well for them it will but then what? People will buy this, but what will set it apart from your main platform of choice. Sony would have to do something they don’t like doing in order to really be successful . They would have to allow people access to other markets. Steam, and the epic games store come to mind. Well wait a minute what if I don’t wanna buy the Sony game on the PlayStation store I wanna buy it on another outlet. Sony has to give you that alternative or face he criticism of their platform. But you have to remember once you open the floodgates, they cannot be closed. Once you have a handheld out there that has access to steam people are going to expect day one PlayStation on steam. They would literally say wait a minute you are forcing me into your market when I brought a device that should be capable of reaching every market. Here’s the funny thing since you have to make a device capable of reaching every market that means it would be a Sony device capable of playing Microsoft games via steam so either way your competition gets a play and guess what there are a lot of Sony fans that have not touched Xbox games in a long time You can’t say the same thing for people who own an Xbox.

As a gamer in my 40’s, I have really grown to love the Xbox ease of use and I have no doubt that they will continue that with the new handheld device. Chances are they will be able to have all game libraries available on that device (at least better chances than the competition, IMO) then I believe it will do well. If things change and PlayStation is the one that brings everything together in one device, then I will check that one out. I think newer gamers are waaaay too worried about where other people play. Play where your friends and you can play together. Don’t worry what billion/trillion dollar company I decide to throw my money at.

By the end of the PS4 gen gamers libraries were around 50/50 physical and digital hence why Phil Spencer said they lost the most important generation to lose because gamers started making their digital collection mostly in Playstation's ecosystem, not Xbox. Also hence why Sony even made an optional digital model PS5 at launch in 2020. In 2022 only 21% new game sales were physical, would be even less now in 2024.
Sony could probably get away with an all digital handheld, although it would be nice and possible if they also supported the remaining few who still have physical collections by creating a physical to digital media conversion program, there's a few ways they could make that happen if they wanted to.

and lol, nobody is pushing against consumers because they like one console more than the other, ridiculous suggestion. but thinking microsoft getting stuff for free is good for consumers is stupid. consumers dont care if microsoft or google is earning money, if you can expect google to be selfless you can expect microsoft also to be selfless, but suprise, both want to earn money with their eco systems and now a judge should decide who of both doesnt earn his profits because microsoft wants to implement a service that is too expensive for the regular customer?

Neither has a good chance at success. We have the deck and switch. What use would these have? Everyone who wants a PS5 will have one by the time this comes out, so again, who is going to pay 600-700 bucks so they can play PS5 on a small screen? Vita and PSP already failed.
The idea of an Xbox handheld is preposterous. If its a steam deck competitor, well the steam deck already exists. They cant even sell regular xboxs why would anyone want a handheld xbox? As for having steam and other storefronts on it, as previously mentioned, the deck already exists.

PSP was somewhat of a success at 80M...it just got stomped out by Nintendo DS 😂(150M). Then it carried over to "round 2", where VITA got annihilated by 3DS. That was pretty much all she wrote for Sony's handheld charge.
In fact, Sony makes it's competitors..."difficult to develop for" for third parties 😂? Nintendo made VITA difficult to develop for 😂...VITA got zero third party support, did less than 20M, and was relegated to a cult anime/import handheld.
But yeah, I'd welcome an Xbox powerful high end handheld. I got down time at my job 😂...where I'm playing Metal Slug Tactics, Advance Wars 1+2, Mortal Kombat 1, etc on Switch 😂!
I'm so used to Switch now, I wouldn't abandoned it, I like the Metroid series 😂...they get Japanese imports too.
I would add the Xbox for more complex strategy games and triple A. I got Xcom 2, Ancestors Legacy, NorthGard, Startopia on Switch...they dont really work on Switch 🙂...framerates, TEENY TINY text...they'd be much better on a more powerful handheld.
Advance War 1+2 and Metal Slug Tactics, PERFECT for Switch 😂! Cartoony graphics. The advanced graphics are gonna come from Nintendo themselves, Metroid Prime Remastered is beautiful. But third party triple A? I'd go with an Xbox handheld. Fatal Fury retro, okay Switch 😂
