one of my favourite thing about japan was eating, the first 2 days while in japan i was looking at restaurant's reviews, however the following days i was just walking in restaurants or izakayas as i was confident the food will be good, i had amazing food everywhere
Aichi's cuisine is super underrated. A lot of people overlook it, but it's great, especially if you like stronger flavours. Hitsumabushi, ebi-fry, misonikomi udon, kishimen, Nagoya cochin, etc., etc. It's not exactly as delicate as what you might get in Kyoto, but it's delicious all the same.
"Osaka is the kitchen of Japan" is the best marketing thing Osaka/Kansai ever came up with. It's such an untrue and overused statement. Except for Takoyaki, nothing you find in Osaka is so special that it blows out the counterparts in Tokyo out the water. In fact, Tokyo probably beats Osaka in pretty much everything but I am biased and think every single meibutsu you can find in certain prefectures you can have in Tokyo at the same quality. The only exception might be seafood. At least they got Hokkaido right on that list!
As someone who has traveled around Japan quite extensively, I disagree with your meibutsu assessment, quite a lot of them are way better in their home cities. Also, ironically, if we're talking high end seafood then a lot of Sapporo based sushi chefs lament that Hokkaidos best stuff gets shipped off to Toyosu only to get flown back home to them if they want the best ingredients.
@@etanaratsastajaI've been all over Japan and lives there for a year, travelling all around and I can't really remember many dishes that were far better outside Tokyo than within there. I suppose it it's all subjective in the end.
the topic of japanese architecture made me thing of a great book i read recently called emergent tokyo about how tokyo has managed to keep some elements of the old blended with the new and why it makes tokyo so cool and interesting
When I was first in Japan in 2019 and we were in Kochi, on the way to the castle my father and myself were stopped and invited into what we thought was a Buddhist temple. When the young man who invited us in started showing us how to kneel and "pray" inside the main hall, I realized it was not a 'normal' Buddhist temple and something was off. Afterwards, we found out we had been at the Tenrikyo Kochi Grand Church. Interesting experience. The main benefit is that the young man insisted that we should have lunch at the Hirome Market, otherwise we might not have known it was right there by the castle.
I only found out when I watched Chris's old Day in My Life video where we spoke about J-Alert in Tokyo that he was left handed, just like me! Glad to see someone well known also be part of the 10% lol
Have you been to "Tsuna Hachi" in Shinjuku? I feel its a nice food place worth noting for its Eel and Vegetable dishes - and somewhere they were pleasant enough to us considering we were foreign tourists with no Japanese😁 Should have been in the top 10 sirs.)!!
I have also split my pants in Jpan. Back in 2019 in Kyoto station basement queuing up for some Korean food. We had visited the restaurant previously and my partner was really keen to revisit. I just bent down to tighten my shoe laces and then that awful sound/fealing happened. At least it is was January and I had my coat on. We will revisit when back in Feb 2025, but this time with roomer trousers.
Nice to hear some love for brutalism from Donald Peterson and Broad Chrismas . I have a brutalist interiors tumblr. I like the concrete but many interiors can be downright cozy and belie the uniformly austere stereotype.
5:24 - by any chance, is it this one Pete? ruclips.net/video/YN2UVfW8H2k/видео.html Info about it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Night_Before_Christmas_(1951_film) I took a look at the temple in the first story from Louise and Jasper(?)... pretty interesting: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chion-in# o/
I hate sunny tropical vibes, but I really would like to know Okinawa just because of its architecture. The japanese brutalist style, especially in Okinawa, feels quite peculiar, very distinct from the soviet era buildings we are all familiar with, that are pretty cool as well.
CineFix recently did a video on "Die Hard" in its Top 100 list, basically saying the same things you did - rich characters, excellent structure, etc. As for me, the Christmas movie I always go to is the 1951 "A Christmas Carol". Alastair Sim is the perfect Scrooge.
How do you find a way to bring up that idiots name every bloody show? Your just advertising him at this point..try to go two episodes in a row without bringing that *cough* up, You both sound obsessed with the *cough*.

It's not a 'feel good' Christmas film, but The Holdovers has become one of my favourites at Christmas (along with Klaus).

Yesssss!!! I love Scrooged! It’s my favorite.
Muppet Christmas Carol is the bomb and the George c Scott Christmas Carol is the best. Happy holidays!!! 🎉
There are two kinds of people in the world: Those who believe that Die Hard is a Christmas movie, and those who are wrong. ;)
And there's also those of us who've never seen the movie at all 😅
Bruce Willis himself said it wasn’t lol
Just as Yakuza games are Christmas games
It being Christmas is a central pillar of the movie and a big plot point..... It's a Christmas movie
Every time I hear anything about Kanazawa it's making me want to go there even more.
It's alright. BEtter than Kyoto because there is just simply not as many Chinese there.

Die hard is definitely a christmas film. Christmas party, Christmas tunes, and a Christmas tree.🙂

Festive Pete, hello.
Aren’t those mummies you’re talking about called Daisoujou?
R.I.P Alan Rickman

What? No one watches “A Christmas Story”? Or even “Joyeux Noel”?

30:10 That architectural style is ok to look at, but horrific to live in.
Just about to launch into a stream of consciousness Aphex Twin discussion and Pete switches back to brutalism. Boooo
I've seen many of your Okinawa videos, and every time I am pissed you never have Taco Rice outside Camp Hansen's Gate 2 street!
How do you find a way to bring up that idiots name every bloody show?
