And it's funny: earlier today I watched How to Cook That's video from around 2 months ago, where her hubby did a big old exposé re: 5 Minute Crafts/123 Go/etc and their shady practices.
Thank you so much for the video! When I was a teenager I would follow beauty hacks like these and sometimes they irritated my skin a lot or took a ton of work and did nothing. @@ThymeofGhost Humans stopped using food items as skincare because companies came along and started manufacturing stuff for profit and for ease of use by more people. People are inherently lazy. It's easier to take a bottle off the shelf than make your own face mask from food items, so cosmetic products took off fast. That doesn't mean *everything* is bullshit. Most skincare companies use natural ingredients, too, eg. makeup removers use natural oils. Many creams utilize aloe vera, avocado etc. But they also have to use chmical ingredients because the product has to stay fresh for a long time, avoid nasty fungi developing etc. That STILL doesn't mean just using olive oil on your skin as makeup remover would be any worse. BUT you need to know what things work and what things are safe, and this knowledge is what most people don't have anymore.
A VIDEO IDEA: Historic DIY shampoo recipes from different centuries and different parts of the world :) i was recently reading about it and it was really interesting, e.g., washing hair with eggs, chestnut water, birch leaf water, etc.
Eggs are still being used today. Even in some salons/spa's. And for people who don't want to deal with that mess (keep in mind that the eggwhite can coagulate when showering in hot water, and getting stuck in the hair), some brands also add it to their haircare products.
I've actually gotten into egg hair washing in my quest to make my routine as natural on the planet as possible (zero-waste). I would separate the egg yolk and and whites, use the yolk on my ends as a hair mask before I shower and cleanse my hair with a water/egg whites mixture. I blended the mixture until it was frothy for better application. Honestly, my hair felt pleasant and soft after my shower. My hair type is not very oily roots and dry ends, and I usually only clean my hair 2x a week. I did this for about 1 month before I quit because it turned out that using 2 eggs a week just for washing hair is quite expensive compared to other natural hair cleansers. So unless you amass a horde of eggs from your own chickens, I'd suggest only using this method once in a while. Also! No showering with hot water unless you want scrambled eggs in your hair :)
The vaseline and glitter had me cringing, I thought it was going to be some sort of shitty lip gloss at first but when they put it on the eye my soul literally left my body

Be very careful if you want to try the aspirine hack! I once did that because I hade one of those big painful pimples that are stuck in lower parts of your skin and can't be extracted easily. My mistake was underestimating it's power and leaving it on overnight. Next day the skin was chaved off and I had an open wound on the spot. It healed up pretty fast thankfully and wasn't horrible but I never put any aspirine on my skin again after that.
The wasabi hack reminds me of a plumping lip gloss, and sometimes I would use it just for the pleasant stinging sensation. Painful but in a good way. I think the point of that hack wasn't to redden your lips but to plump them.
I recently saw an article regarding the UV light needed for gel polish possibly causing a rise in melanoma under the fingernail. Have you run across this?
I’ve used the aspirin hack and have only heard of it as being used as an anti-inflammatory to bring down swelling. It has a mild to moderate effect - I used it when my acne was way more severe.
I scratched my cornea once. It did not lead to infection, but i now have a permanent scar on my cornea that the ophthalmologist was able to see a year later when i went in for a check-up. LOL I have tried that olive oil one to remove make up so it's good to know it's safe. I have done it a few times when I didn't have another remover (mainly because I don't often wear make up anyway so hadn't bought an actual make up remover).

you look kind of tired/sad in this video, are you doing alright, if you don't mind me asking?
I filmed this a while ago and I think at the time I wasn't sleeping well and stressing about the pandemic and whether or not I should cancel my travel plans (it was work related so there was some legal stuff involved). Luckily that decision was taken out of my hands! Still a bit stressed about the pandemic but I've adjusted now 😊
your reaction pretty mild lol.
that wasabi + yoghurt salve.. what a waste. wasabi is not that cheap
