That's what my mom said 6 years ago about abortion rights when I expressed fear that they would be taken away. I've never needed one, and I have no children, but it irks me that she continues to vote for the guy responsible for taking those rights away. Rights she used to agree with.

I'm in Australia & my dad's current wife is from the USA and we got into an argument the last time I saw her over her commenting "they can't do that" but she couldn't answer "who is going to stop them". The supreme court was supposed to be the checks and balances but it's clear where their fealty lies.

I met a retired FBI agent who investigated human trafficking. Advice he gave me that always stuck with me was to avoid all hotels/motels with colors or numbers in their name.
I literally googled all the ones near me, and I'm not surprised given the reputation these locations have for prostitution. I'm now concerned that it's for a reason.

Project 2025 has been lurking in my psyche for at least a year. The thought that in a year my healthcare, marriage, workplace protections and maybe my freedom could be gone. I could be applying for asylum for all I know. It has made me completely check out of politics, I know how I have to vote and that it’s all I can do, the anxiety behind it is unbelievable
There is more we can do than vote. We can each donate 5-20 bucks to groups fighting this. We can protest. We might need to do more than take 1-2 hours of our day once every 2 years to defend democracy

Someone else said you can do more than just vote, and I'll take it a step further. Organize your community! Find local cooperative organizations, get in contact with people giving out food, find ways to create or participate in non-corporate community spaces. The stronger our local communities are, the harder it is for authoritarianism to take hold. So get involved, even if it just means getting your produce from farmer's markets and community gardens more than the grocery store. It all helps!
@@willbortin3595 This is not exactly true. It can actually be easier for authoritarianism to take hold with a strong knit local community. Just look at 1930's Europe. Most small communities only had a few people who were pro-fascists views among them. It only took those few people to sway entire communities to go along with the fascists at the very least, and in some cases turned the entire community into a fascist stronghold. It's one of the many reasons why Germany was so successful in rounding up the "undesirables" during WWII for their labor/death camps.
I'm not saying don't try to forge a strong bonds with your neighbors and community. Just be mindful that it only takes one person to poison an entire community.

Project 2025 is like the Handmaid's Tale come to horrible life. I'm legitimately terrified and looking at, among other things, getting myself sterilized to just never have to deal with the no abortion option thing. It's horrible I even have to consider this.

I’m literally convincing my family to look into it and figure out a plan for us all to escape to Canada. My parents don’t want to talk about it and just say to me, “Biden will win and it’ll be fine!” NO IT FUCKING WON’T! If Trump get’s reelected in November, we’re all FUCKED! Our rights, liberties, etc. will be taken away and we have to live and abide by the rules of a Trump/MAGA authoritarian dictatorship! With everyone giving it more attention now since we’re now four more months away from the Election, they’re still brushing it off like it’s nothing! I’m giving them every article, video, etc. about what it is and they refuse to listen.

I appreciate the deeply disturbing ideology and plans about Project 2025. However people acting like conservatives and the uber rich haven't been steadily appointing judges, lobbying, donating, financing litigation to set up this proposed plan has been in the works for decades. A swath of political activists and journalists have been documenting a long history of behaviors and actions for so long - it's really frustrating that *now* is when the establishment wants to be concerned.

Mitch McConnell and the Federalist Society have been putting this plan to work for decades. They’ve finally stacked the judiciary and there is no coincidence to what cases the court decides to hear. This has been a slow moving coup for decades and anyone who said anything about it, were just disregarded as conspiratorial nut jobs.
Y’know, it’s things like these that really make me glad that I don’t live in the US. Not that it doesn’t still affect us, but it’s certainly not as direct
The Karen Read trial was WILD to say the least, and it was almost slapstick to watch how badly the investigators fumbled the ball on this, intentionally or not. Even if she really killed her boyfriend (which I don't believe), the way this case was investigated should've gotten this case thrown out. Highlights include:
- DNA evidence gathering in Red Solo Cups, being transported in a Stop&Shop bag.
- the people inside the house where the victim was found were not interviewed at first, and when they were, they were interviewed all together. Which you'd usually prevent, you know, so they don't line up their testimonies with each other. Not here.
- the crown witness for the prosecution changed her testimony, to now claiming Karen Read said "I hit him" _only after_ conspiracy theories popped up blaming the crown witness and her family for the death.
- the lead investigator knew that a snowplow driver plowed the road of the crime scene multiple times the night of the murder, but withheld information that he knew that, let alone interview the guy. Plot twist, the defense found him, got him on the stand; his testimony: The body wasn't yet on the lawn by 2 AM in the morning.
- the Medical Examiner couldn't conclusive determine John O'Keefe's death as a homicide, and admitted that she couldn't confirm that the wounds he received were from being hit with a car. Paraphrasing, "One theory as to what happened is as likely as any other," in her professional opinion.
- independent forensic experts in accident reconstruction (paid for by the FBI who, surprise, are apparently investigating the actual investigation for misconduct) determined that it is physically impossible to have happened the way the prosecution laid it out.
- the forensic "expert" of the prosecution holds the academical degree of "Trooper" (meaning, none), and as basis for his accident reconstruction told the jury under oath, "The crime scene talked to me."
The list goes on. It was a mess.
3 things that stood out to me:
-There was never a search of the inside of the home. The home owners then got rid of their family dog, completely renovated their basement and sold their home shortly after the incident.
-Brian Higgins (key witness and police officer) removed the SIM card from his cellphone, drove to a military base, and trashed the device and SIM card in separate dumpsters amid the investigation. He also got a new phone number the day before he was going to be subpoenaed.
-Jen McCabe googled “how long to die in the cold” (spelled wrong) at 2:27am the night of the death and deleted the search. The body was found around 5-6am.
@@k8dom Agreed! The "Highlights" (or rather lowlights I guess) were specifically regarding the way the investigation / prosecution was handled. You are of course correct that the other persons of interest in this case had some might suspicious and shady behavior that makes it hard to believe KR was their main suspect (which she became within 16 hours of the body being found, mind you).
You know, I’m not one that normally starts making doom predictions. But I’ve been studying WWII in history class and it’s scary that Hitler also demanded loyalty to him instead of Germany and this is basically what this project is wanting to do. Being conservative is one thing. Being anti everyone else is a huge other thing.
Project 2025 is already here and the fact that there are a lot of people in denial about it is alarming. We still have a chance to slow it down (and maybe even stop it) this fall.
Yes, the ultra conservative SCOTUS and other federal and state courts, the states making massive authoritarian policies, the SCOTUS revoking Roe, making homelessness illegal, bribery is legal, Chevron overturned. We are in trouble now, and we have to stop it now.
You might be able to slow it down, but this is plan that has been long in the making, and even if Trump doesn't win, the next crazy conservative who wins could bring this plan to fruition. The problem with US politics is that as much as right wing media would have their audience believe that the Democrats are socialists and far left Marxists, it just isn't true. Most career Democrats are just Republican light.

I don’t use Spotify but I recently learned about Chappell Roan and have started listening to her a lot just in the past few weeks. I think it’s just her moment because her music is really catchy and enjoyable while some other bigger artists that put out albums recently had more moody and less daily enjoyable type music.
I just learned of Chappell and Sabrina a few weeks ago. I'm a 45yo woman and I absolutely love Chappell and her music. The two songs by Sabrina I've heard I love as well. I keep telling my husband that I wish I had these young women doing this music when I was 14-21 because it such women positive and really helps your confidence. Anyway, Chappell has such an amazing voice!!!

Me and my friends have almost been trafficked at a Red Roof Inn twice some lady tried to get one of the 13-year-olds with us to walk to her room. FINALLY! I've been waiting for you to talk about project 2025 for about a year now. It's terrifying and the reason a lot of people I know either have or are trying to leave the country right now.
Hearing about Project 2025 horrifies me! I already had an argument with my mom about how I feel it’s wrong about Oklahoma’s idea of mandatory bible stories. I tried to explain how the use of religion in politics has a big effect on fear and dictating minorities, especially as someone who is LGBTQ and Asian. I find religion is only going to cloud judgement and be used for personal advantage, and not everyone is a Christian. Unfortunately her response to that was “we’re Catholics, we have different standards and are more open.” But how can you when you are oppressive about women reproductive rights, autonomy and freedom, especially as their own daughter (by birth anyway).
So it scares me how US politics will influence the way I can live comfortably and feel safe.

I'm German and let me tell you, the signs have been there since Trump first became President. Aside from the fact that all of Europe was in shock, like "Wait... you guys are not joking? You ACTUALLY voted for this idiot?".... we all just kept staring in disbelief at all the dumb stuff he kept prattling on about over the years. The way he has been rousing people, his rhetoric, they are not just populist but straight up taken from Hitler's propaganda.

This shows how little you know about history. Hitler had no say in his pardon, he was pardoned by the supreme court in 1924 before he or the nazi party were in power.
He also wasn't "the president", that was Hindenburg until his death in 1934, when Hitler merged the offices of Chancellor and President.
Maybe brush up on your history if you're going to try and make these comparisons.

The Supreme Court alone, in the last year or two only, has done immense damage that's ramped up incredibly in the last week. This is only the beginning.
The disinformation campaign is in full swing. The hateful rhetoric is out in force. The country is divided like never before. You don't even have to read between the lines to see the monstrous stuff Trump is gearing up to do when he wins - it's out in the open. You do not get to point at the absolute shambles the Republican party was in back in 2016, trying desperately to wrangle a herd of cats, half of whom just got done making an absolute mockery of the guy who quickly came to own the whole party, and claim they're going to repeat that in Trump's second term. Every one of them has fallen fully in line.

From a swede regarding paris tourism: I havent heard a good word about visiting Paris in a long long time. In my mind it has fallen off a cliff as a ”destination”. When I think about Paris I think about bedbugs, trash, chaos, pickpockets, and well… a hostile attitude to visitors. Not on the list of places to visit again

Similar to my experience watching "Don't Look Up". Seems crazy to past generations, but I was disgusted by the end because it really could happen.
I stayed at a Red Roof Inn in Miami and I'm not surprised by this at all. There was a drink vending machine in the lobby that had multiple types of condoms and razors.

If your phone can screen record, I’d suggest recording that segment and trimming it down if you need to if you decide to edit it. If you never used the feature before, don’t delete the original, just delete the new edited videos you made when you saved off the original so you can see how it works. I always keep the original until I’m absolutely sure I’m done editing. He may make it a short, but if he does, we dunno if that means everything will be in there.

Just heard Red Wine Supernova and I’ve been going between that and Please Please Please. Both of these artists are unlike anything I listen to all all.
In hs and college, I worked seasonally at a reputable hotel. I had planned to continue there when I started grad school when the manager who got me the job and had known me for years prior pulled me aside to let me know the owners were selling and while they were looking to keep staff to make a smooth transition, she and many other were leaving and she recommended I do the same as it was being sold to the same person who owned the local Red Roof Inn. It was common knowledge the RRI in question had issues with prostitution and drugs but nothing was done. In less than a year after I left I heard from those that stayed that this became a large issue and they knew the owners were aware as they had brought the issues up and had to call the police many times. This was 20 years ago and I hope this lawsuit brings more focuse on this.
Also, for the Olympics story, Charles de Gaulle Airport is one of the worst I've been to, and many Europeans know it. You spend roughly 20-40 min on the tarmac after landing and usually have to be bused to the terminal since they have more flights than gates. Also, there tend to be a lot of air traffic control strikes in the summer around France that affect flights and cause heavy delays.

This recent Supreme court decision and talk about project 2025 actually seems to be reaching moderate Republicans. Everyone needs to find ways to spread the word about this dangerous plan for our country.

What's scary about it?
As someone who used to work in the corporate call center for Red Roof Inn, this is unsurprising. The problem is that nearly every RRI is franchised, and there is quite literally no quality control (at least when I used to work for them years ago) on the franchised locations. Whenever corporate shut one down, office staff would even joke, "imagine being so bad you get dropped by Red Roof". They are clearly aware of the problem, as I had numerous calls from front desk staff asking me how to bill for a "3 hour stay" and multiple mentioning having rooms dedicated for short term stays like that.
This isn't including the locations that outright fraudulently charge customers cards for false charges. Red Roof Inn made me hyper vigilant in any motel now, including obsessing over the door being properly locked and checking my card for any fraudulent charges. Corporate knows what's happening, and to say otherwise is an outright lie on their part.
Don't care if paid or not, Sabrina and Chapelle deserve every love. Their music is just that good
I learned about project 2025 about half a year ago and didn't think much of it because I thought there's no way something this insane could ever be real. Yet now I see and hear about it almost every other day. The fact that this could be our very near future is horrifying.
The other day I actually saw furry pron on Twitter that laid out Project 2025's main goals on it. It was like, "Okay, now I got your attention with pron, this BS here is something you really should be paying attention to."

I watched the Karen Read trial and the only thing I can say is that I am stunned it ever got to trial. Where I'm from it would never have been allowed through given how bad the evidence is and how bad it was HANDLED.
Setting aside how utterly offensive every Trooper was on the stand, their lack of intelligence (physics don't exist for pedestrians apparently), and the fact that almost every witness was from the same family circle who had clearly closed ranks etc...
The fact Lally wants to even retry it is pathetic, he's now bordering on malicious prosecution already and this will definitely push it over the line. The FBI have already handed two of their experts to the defence who both said "A car didn't hit him", the entire MA case is under investigation is being reviewed BY the FBI and he's over there like "Nah I wanna get this innocent woman jailed because...pride".
The American justice system scares me a little, it's just a malicious system and has absolutely no protections in place. There's no mechanism to protect someone from this miscarriage of justice and "A jury will clearly see it" has already been proven false because they came out as a hung jury. The very basic evidence was severely tampered with and collected incorrectly so it could be contaminated, THAT on its own should have been enough to throw this out rather than relying on whether lay-men are capable of putting any biases aside.
I worked at a red roof for several months and I witnessed so much shady stuff going on there. I was never totally positive about anything like sex trafficking but we were never given any instructions on signs to look for. In fact most of my training just involved making sure all the rooms got sold every night. All we needed was someone with an ID, didn’t matter if that was the person actually staying in the room or not and a $100 to $200 deposit depending on the night and whether or not we thought the person seemed extra rough. I did hear fights, shouting, and physical abuse but it was the owners who were engaging in it. I had no idea what to do other than to turn up the volume on the tv in the lobby. I was forced to sell rooms that I knew probably had mold in them. Eventually the hotel got shut down for a while because of the rampant mold, exposed wires that were a major fire hazard, and other various safety violations. I had already left at that point because the mold in the office had causing my autoimmune disease to flare up really bad plus I just couldn’t handle the owners anymore. All the shady stuff, terrible pay, and horrible environment just became too much. They have reopened under a different name now but it’s still the same owners and I don’t have much faith in them changing.

-The dog was rehomed, the house had its cement floor dug up and then was sold to a new family.
-Most of the cops and family destroyed their cell phones during the investigation. The ATF agent admitted he disposed of his SIM card and phone in separate dumpsters on a military base.
Plow driver did not see the body but did see activity or another vehicle by the spot where the body would be found later.
-Karen was connected to her home WiFi at the time

And the fact that the experts who testified for the defence were not hired by them - but by the FBI for their investigation and their results were available to BOTH parties prior to trial and the prosecution ignored it and them.
Also, "no dog DNA found on his body" is not quite accurate. One swab was taken from two or three spots on his shirt only.

Dems have been living in a fantasy world for 4 years now, expecting our own government to jail Trump (lmao), and completely ignoring all the shit they have been saying, planning and doing over the last 4 years because of that. They are just now waking up and realizing the Supreme Court and much of the White House still works on behalf of Trump (his agendas more than him personally, imo), and I think its a bit too late at this point. We were considering visiting Paris this summer because flights were relatively cheap, but decided that even shortly after the Olympics, the city will look like a house party just rolled out of town. That, and the bedbugs. Those damn bedbugs are going to hitch an international ride with everyone leaving the Olympics.

I am a former public defender. I was assigned to several town courts in a county in New York State, so I had many hundreds of clients come and go. There were a few Red Roof Inns in the county in which I was practicing, and one in particular that was such a haven for prostitution, drugs sales, and other criminal activity that I knew every square inch of the property and almost every room in the building by sight, and I had never even set foot on the property. I had seen it all through police body cam footage. It was so bad that whenever I had a new case come in with certain charges, I would just assume it was at the Red Roof Inn, and 9 out of 10 times I would be right.
Anyone who looks at Project 2025 and thinks,
“yeah. I don’t see a problem with this.”

I've known about project 2025 for quite a while now and have been sounding the alarm just as long. Word, details and conversations have been leaked or gotten loose since they started formulating that horrific monstrosity, though being a political science researcher may have exposed me to some sources earlier than most. It's been hard to get the word out about so I'm glad it's finally getting somewhere relatively mainstream. Do not let it go. Do not forget about it. The recent Chevron Deference and Presidential Immunity cases are heavily tied to these goals so it's far less of a pipe dream than you think. Be vigilant. We're on the brink here.
I have a country/folk playlist on Spotify filled with 6 1/2hrs of some of my favorites from those genres. I swear every time I shuffle play the playlist the first song is almost always "I had some help" by Post and Wallen. Yes, the fact that Michael Proctor was relieved of his duties is huge. Even the governor backed up the decision. It’s clear they got way more against him if the investigation into his is still ongoing. Really makes me question why they are going to retry Karen read when this will be brought up in the retrial. Makes his credibility so much worse than it already was on the stand

Proctor sent those texts 16 hours into the investigation. The unbiased witnesses for the FBI all concluded there was no way JO was hit by a car. I'm looking forward to the FBI investigation results. If they do retry KR, I don't see how the states case would get anything other than weaker. Sigh.

I love Chappell and I’m so thrilled that she’s getting the recognition she deserves, even if a lot of it is from the algorithm. I’ve loved her since 2020 and her meteoric rise is overwhelming and also so incredible. The fact that the Supreme Court (now heavily conservative due to nominations from the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation) just ruled in favor of presidential immunity from prosecution just makes Project 2025 seem on the cusp of coming to fruition. I've been reading through the documents for project 2025 for like 2 years I'm glad you finally covered it.
I work in a job that directly confronts sex trafficking and it’s quite shocking to see how a lot of these crimes could easily be prevented or at least alerted to police if people just pay attention. But when jobs pretty much tell their workers to stay out of people’s business or don’t stop crime this is what happens. These businesses especially hotels need to start training their employees and actually allow their employees to report potential crimes
