Love the POV video’s! For the seeing you drive videos, yeah, that is 100% publicly available. Nice one Dale The Metropolitan Line is quicker to King's Cross and did you remember the old Milky-way advert the red car and the blue car had a race when's the full journey from Uxbridge to Cockfosters and Wood Green to Rayners Lane
Hi Dale, re racing, my dad’s commuter trains used to race on the down line from Eastleigh to Winchester in the sixties. On one occasion the driver waited for City Of Truro to leave and they raced until dad’s train got a red! It was frowned upon but when Truro was held at Eastleigh the race was on! Regards, Neil.
Brilliant dale as always, I used to be a guard on the district line and then the northern line in the 1980s, thought it was safer with two men operating

I cannot wait for the new Piccadilly line trains to be rolled out Please can you tell us when you get a first sight of one if you cannot then that is okay as always keep up the good work well done❤🎉 by the way just so you know the track work from Arnos Grove up to Cockfosters is to accommodate the new trains. This includes track replacement platform upgrade and some other things I’ve seen that on the TfL website. 😊
Hi Dale, I love these two-part, long features - I wonder, will there be a box set in the shops in time for Christmas? 🤣 Actually, your mention of signals sometimes reminding you of Christmas lights might be a subconscious reason that I went into signalling design, as I loved the colour and vibrancy Christmas lights when I was growing up - well, that and an interest in railways, especially the Underground… and I suppose having an engineering degree helped, too! I was very fortunate to have worked with some truly brilliant people there, who helped me to progress my career through the ranks in LU. I get the impression that you truly enjoy your job, which is always a plus, and I know from experience that the Underground is rather like a family in some ways - I met very many people during my time there, both in Engineering and in Operations, and at all different levels: fortunately, only a handful were ones you might remember for, erm… less than positive reasons... I fully understand your position relating to filming within the depot buildings. I’d agree that whilst there are no great secrets per se, there is always a matter of it perhaps being privileged information (or something of that sort) that may make things a touch awkward for filming, so it’s definitely best to be cautious. You mentioned speed restrictions in relation to the sighting of specific signals - unfortunately, I don’t recall (or perhaps never knew about) the reasons for PSRs/TSRs that you mentioned, but they may have come about as a result of a review that was undertaken from the early 2000s - I really can’t be sure, sorry! I think it was me that you mentioned in relation to Arnos Grove, probably following my explanation of the speed check arrangements on the westbound approach, though that isn’t something that I actually worked on (but I have done several others across a number of different Underground lines). I have done a significant amount of work on other Piccadilly line signalling designs, plus those for the Jubilee, Northern, Metropolitan and bits and pieces on other lines as well… so much, in fact, that I really don’t remember it all! Or maybe I’m getting old as well …not that there’s any doubt about that in my case! Floodgates - as I recall, there were two main types: one is similar in operation to a portcullis (but without the openings, of course!), so it just lowers vertically; the other is sometimes termed a ‘cat-flap’ design, so is hinged from above. My understanding is that they are all secured out of use by appropriate means, and I know that some - perhaps all by now - are no longer detected in signalling circuits as being in the open position, simply as they just cannot move anymore. Perhaps someone else on here has more information on these, as they I don’t think they were really a signalling asset (hence my limited knowledge). Your mention of the pigeon on the signal hood at Acton Town made me chuckle - but better for it to obscure a green aspect than a red… and that’s the reason for the most restrictive aspect being in the lowest position (red for a running signal or yellow for a repeater) as there is no hood below that. Actually, I believe the main idea was to prevent a build-up of snow in front of a red aspect, but clearly it works with wildlife, too! I’m very much looking forward to part two with bated breath! Many thanks for a very enjoyable part one!
I appreciate the comment. Signaling is a very technical thing and as I have said in a few videos as a driver all we need to know is red,Green, yellow and the route. It just gets very complicated after that. I do appreciate the information though. Apologise I never got to reply to the message about the Arnos signals. I was going too but then couldn’t find it. Enjoy your weekend and I hope to have part 2 out tomorrow ( fingers crossed)
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Many thanks for the reply - and I fully understand that you cannot reply to every comment. Anyway, if I post a comment on the next video I'll try not to waffle on as much as I did today!
Thanks Dale. I've only watched the first half and I have to go to work myself now... lots of interesting new stuff, quite apart from the engineering work. The slow line Acton to Northfields I don't think we've done before and it was great to at least see some of Northfields depot. That place always seems huge when I've passed by - usually inbound from a flight into Heathrow. It was also good "racing" the District Line from Hammersmith - I think you passed three in total (although one then got ahead again). We don't usually see so many, I don't think.
Hopefully the higher ups will recognise you are a great ambassador for LUL. As someone that used to work in the business I bet the TFL PR guys would recognise the positive reception publicity you generate. That's a lot cheaper than expensive advertising.
This will be an interesting one to Wood Green! I’ve never seen a video or a train going into the sidings at all in my life. Thanks for showing us what happens on an engineering works day. I don’t live in London so I can’t really ride the pic line but anyway, great video and can’t wait for part 2.
Quality video again Dale! Very disappointing to hear management have issues with you filming. Of course I understand there are policies, standards, blah, blah, blah, but like many others and yourself have said, you can find what you have shared online already, especially through simulators. Everything if not more than what you’ve shown you can see driving the 1972 stock in a sim! I thought the video facing you was an interesting perspective and can’t see what would be wrong with it? I can look through your cab window and watch you depart the platform…doesn’t mean I would know how to operate the train if you put it in front of me. 😂😂 Please just make sure you don’t do anything that will cost you your job, us lot aren’t THAT important 😅. All the best Dale.
I find it amusing that TFL are a little scared about you showing how to drive the train... Train simulators are pretty good at being truthful to real life and in actual fact they were consulted on the procedures when producing the scenarios :D
It is great to hear your insights into your job and the quirks of the trains and the Piccadilly line. The higher ups at TfL may get itchy feet over some things though, especially when there are issues.
dale thanks for the great POVs of your journeys i enyoy whatching them so i agree with you its best to stick with what you can and not film this way it keeps every one happy this way becuse i do not want you to lose permission to film the POV journeys 😀😀
Having to take a bus when expecting to take the tube is for sure disappointing, especially when there is a tube strike. I was in London during the tube strike in March of 2023. I knew we would have to take the buses, but didn’t expect how crowded they were going to be. Just goes to show how necessary the tube is.
I agree the bus is not ideal. The difference with engineering works over strikes is it’s being advertised for a long while. We also have dedicated replacement bus services running regular rather than trying to travel on a normal public service bus
The first new train should arrive in September time that’s what’s said and it will start integration testing so you should see it next month Dale and really enjoying the video
As for how busy the stations are, on the west I got 39 passengers at Leicester Square and 43 people at Piccadilly Circus. Eastbound It looked like 89 people at South Kensington and 79 at Piccadilly Circus, 65 at Leicester Square. Also there looks like one is sleeping in the corridor off the platform in LS at 1:37:32. Looks like 59 passengers at Covent Garden and 50 at Holborn.
Have you ever wondered about interchange stations on the Tube being culturally synonymous with funk songs that contributed to the formation of hip hop?
Will you ever be doing a video where you go through the Kings Cross sidings from Eastbound and down onto the Northern Line tracks if you don't mind me asking you curiously?
Regarding the floodgates, I understand that the 1950s ones (like those on the Picc) mostly dropped down from the roof of the tunnel. They were decommissioned shortly after the Thames Barrier was installed and welded in place with the signalling interlock removed.
If you need a new PC try out gamers Republic, if it good for games it good for film editing 😊, keep your videos coming as your the last thing i sleep and if i don't wake up at least i snuffed it happy😅
Dale I understand about filming in the depots and think you should go a long with what the managers want you can film as is authorised to do so just to allow you showing us the different routes and different moves you have to do.
You were asking a question about Piccadilly Circus. I don’t know if he is on here but Chris Nicks from the Museum and the gang from Hidden London would probably have the answer.

I have spent many enjoyable nights at the old Hammersmith Odeon ( as was) . Sadly thought I would get a District train back towards Embankment, as I would be hoping to get a train out of Waterloo.
I'm a little surprised that at all stations west of Hammersmith where you're running express past a platform, you're not required to whistle on approach.
We do on the east bound ( between 7am-7pm). It’s all about the train being seen. In the west it’s all got good visibility so people can see a train coming
Thanks for another interesting video. I used to travel daily on the Northern Line and the most significant difference between then and now is how much quieter the trains are when running. In my time the rails were all of the jointed type and in the enclosed tunnels the noise was quite overwhelming. I assume that the all welded rails are now in use. Are you allowed to film the actual engineering trains and work being conducted?
Filming the works and eng trains are not some thing I would be able to do. There is always a block on and I would not be able to access the work site on foot or on a train
Hi Dale watch many of your vids & are good viewing . I board the train at Manor House many times & when I’m Waiting on the platform I can hear the sound of a train fast running like a main line train & of so which station ?
So an A category platform means if the driver looks out the cab door they can’t see all the train. So should a mirror or monitor be defective we would need assisted dispatch. A category B means we can see the hole of our train so can dispatch our selves
great video couple of questions have you seen the 2024 stock yet can you show us? what does stepping back mean ? if depots cant get acess where do drivers start?
53:40 That signal (WL25) looks like its referring to the right hand track (since signals appear on the left from the pov of the driver). But its not here.
On the pipe walls, past the number boards, there are what looks like marker boards at equal distance apart, are you able to tell us what they are? Thank you Dale 😁
If you refer to the boards between Wood Green and Turnpike Lane I am not 100% sure. I was told while training they was for emergency situations so people would know which way the nearest station was
Apologies if this has been asked before, but what are those “Not in use” signs for at many platforms? Thanks. Love seeing the Piccadilly Line. I remember when the District Line shared the track to Hounslow West.

Thank you for these underground videos. I'm looking forward to the shorter days, lower sun and changes of the season. BTW, I'm Stuart and from the Isle of Wight. Enjoy your upcoming trips too.
Brilliant, I love the little bus ride at the start 😁
Love the POV video’s! For the seeing you drive videos, yeah, that is 100% publicly available. In Train Sim World 2 and onwards you can drive a 1972 stock Bakerloo line and yeah, it teach you completely how to drive that one. So that is 100% public available information. I hope that you won’t get into trouble with TFL! I love the videos that you make, keep up the good work! Greetings from the Netherlands!
Excellent. View and commentary is perfect. Unusual movements always a bonus, but agree other comments keep the bosses happy over the content so as not to jeopardise them.
Thank you so much for an enjoyable video. Love the commentary. 👍🚃
Dale thank you so much for the shout out mate, you are one of human kinds best, don't change and certainly don't lose your sense of humour mate,
Best wishes from me and Alexandra
Thank you I appreciate it
I like it when you stop before the cameras to also watch the passengers
Aww that interaction you had with the other driver was fun ☺️
Yet again another fantastic POV video in the day of engineering works, love these videos. Keep up the great work.
What you are doing is very good to see how the train system are different then other places. What you said by talking to the management team is a very important part and see what you can film without getting into trouble. Keep it safe and don’t do anything that will cost your job.
Stumbled across your videos about a month ago whilst looking at driver eye/POV videos and I’m glad yours came up it’s brilliant to watch you explaining everything on each video. Keep up the great work Dale.
That's a shame Dale! Your videos are more personal when you show yourself mate! The people that complain about ANY of your videos are probably trolls anyway and aren't subbed and won't sub to your channel! YOU be YOU mate !
Brilliant as always and looking forward to part 2, cheers Dale 🍻
Absolutely love your commentary in your videos, it really brightens my days. 😊😍
Thank you. It makes me happy that people enjoy me rabbiting on
@@dalecharmantravels8057 absolutely 👍
Great Saturday night treat Dale ...thank you. Quite a few chuckles in this one too. All the best.
Always some sad axe that ruins it for everyone, great vids mate
Thank you. You can’t please every one. Hopefully it will all be sorted out soon so we don’t keep having these issues
Nice video Dale, ignore the colleagues... keep em coming
Dude I love your videos and work on the last true driver driven underground train
Try not to let others negative comments stop you from doing a great thing as most people watching this would love to be a tube driver !
Me included 🎉❤😂😊
Thank you I appreciate it
Amazing channel. Every video I learn something new. Keep up the great work, cheers.
Dale
Another fantastic video. Please if you can keep them up I am an avid viewer. I am a freight driver out of Acton and I'm so jealous of you driving a tube train 👍👍👍
Really enjoyed this video Dale. Was great seeing how engineering works can make it such a different shift at work. Nice to see as far into the depot as you could before you had to switch your camera off.
I agree with many others on here, don't risk filming anything that could be a problem with your bosses. Far better to keep safe in what you film and still be allowed to do the pov videos. Looking forward to part 2!
Covent Garden looked busy for once! Sorry to hear you've had complaints about the content Dale. Hope you get it sorted out satisfactorily.
1:41:45 Did wonder where the Aldwych branch came in. Thanks for pointing it out!
Goodness sake Dale, why would anyone complain about you driving the train? Bloody hell, far worse things in life seem to be on the damm Internet, you are a top bloke Dale
Hi Dale! I love your videos and love the London underground. I wish living in London but still was in London for two weeks until a week ago! I started watching your video the last few days after coming back to Japan but I'm loving your pov videos. I wish I could work with the london underground one day. Thanks for all the videos u made!
Hey Dale great video I love watching these videos especially when it’s in parts great video as always keep up the good work and I hope your colleagues don’t bully you too much.
Actually, your mention of signals sometimes reminding you of Christmas lights might be a subconscious reason that I went into signalling design, as I loved the colour and vibrancy Christmas lights when I was growing up - well, that and an interest in railways, especially the Underground… and I suppose having an engineering degree helped, too!
I can't believe they are short of drivers, @ 80-90 K per year ! I enjoyed overtaking the other trains in this video.
£80-£90k I wished 🤣🤣🤣
Northfields was my local Station when I lived in Ealing as a kid in '82-83
Thanks Dale.
I’m sure they are happy with what I have done so far or I am sure I would have heard some thing by now
This will be an interesting one to Wood Green! I’ve never seen a video or a train going into the sidings at all in my life. Thanks for showing us what happens on an engineering works day. I don’t live in London so I can’t really ride the pic line but anyway, great video and can’t wait for part 2.
Hello Dale great video as always
Thank you for this interesting cab ride.
nice content! its fun and relaxing at the same time :D
Please just make sure you don’t do anything that will cost you your job, us lot aren’t THAT important 😅. All the best Dale.
Yay, well done Dale 👏
Love a bit of Underground squeal
I find it amusing that TFL are a little scared about you showing how to drive the train... Train simulators are pretty good at being truthful to real life and in actual fact they were consulted on the procedures when producing the scenarios :D
TfL have not said any thing yet. I am waiting for a sit down with my manager to see where we go from here and what they are happy and not happy with
It is great to hear your insights into your job and the quirks of the trains and the Piccadilly line. The higher ups at TfL may get itchy feet over some things though, especially when there are issues.
No I think they are just childish, waving to the camera. Love the videos. Don’t stop
1:05:05 hello Dale. Really enjoy these videos!
I heard the points change for the Piccadily line train to enter the sidings at Acton Town too. You wasn't going crazy.
dale thanks for the great POVs of your journeys i enyoy whatching them so i agree with you its best to stick with what you can and not film this way it keeps every one happy this way becuse i do not want you to lose permission to film the POV journeys 😀😀
Subscribed as I like train and travel videos. Bonus points as you're a fellow charman 👌
It’s good to have you here
Great videos. Impressive route knowledge too. Would be a shame if they removed as its a great insight into the life of an underground driver. 😊
The first new train should arrive in September time that’s what’s said and it will start integration testing so you should see it next month Dale and really enjoying the video
I hope to get a video of it as soon as it’s out. I guess though it will be running after normal traffic hours
I also watch a driver that works on the Metropolitan line and does the same type of driver eye view driving ..also very good. 😊
Have you ever wondered about interchange stations on the Tube being culturally synonymous with funk songs that contributed to the formation of hip hop?
1:24:45 interesting use of the word temporary. 😂😅😂
Will you ever be doing a video where you go through the Kings Cross sidings from Eastbound and down onto the Northern Line tracks if you don't mind me asking you curiously?
No it’s not some thing as a normal driver we would ever do
Regarding the floodgates, I understand that the 1950s ones (like those on the Picc) mostly dropped down from the roof of the tunnel.
They were decommissioned shortly after the Thames Barrier was installed and welded in place with the signalling interlock removed.
Thank you for the info
If you need a new PC try out gamers Republic, if it good for games it good for film editing 😊, keep your videos coming as your the last thing i sleep and if i don't wake up at least i snuffed it happy😅
brilliant video.....very surreal going backwards....nice one.
Can you say hello to Sean from South Dublin in the next video???? cheers
I will when I next record a video
@@dalecharmantravels8057 much appreciated, keep up the great content.......
Hi Dale
I believe the floodgates were decommissioned around the end of the cold war (some where between mid-80's to late 90's
Thank you. Just a little before my time on the earth let alone the underground 🤣
As an Aussie Underground fan I love the POV videos you do.
Wish I could actually travel on the Underground 🚇 but this is the alternative 🙄
Hi dale love you videos mate I always been into trains and everything.. I always find you videos interesting and always looked forward to the next one. Thank you also to anyone who can help me I can’t find the member thing I take it’s done on the pc only lol as I can’t see it on my phone. Anyway thank you
FFS, it’s a train. I enjoyed a lot your driving vid, it’s not a state secret. Only stupid people would be upset. Love the vids mate.
You should give them the royal wave when you arrive 😂
nice vid dale
2:44 giving you the finger lol and then thumbs up lol
Hi Dale watch many of your vids & are good viewing . I board the train at Manor House many times & when I’m
Waiting on the platform I can hear the sound of a train fast running like a main line train & of so which station ?
Wahey shout out Chris and Chris Jnr , my son said he bumped into to you .
Does the bus replacement service give a whole new meaning for the drivers riding on the cushions?😀
Hi Dale great video. Can you explain what the A and the B that can be seen near the platform monitors denote pleas.
So an A category platform means if the driver looks out the cab door they can’t see all the train. So should a mirror or monitor be defective we would need assisted dispatch. A category B means we can see the hole of our train so can dispatch our selves
great video couple of questions
have you seen the 2024 stock yet can you show us?
what does stepping back mean ?
if depots cant get acess where do drivers start?
There's a video from Geoff Marshall on RUclips showing the new trains
@@camotech1314 -am talking abouth the ins and outs aand what he thinks of them
53:40 That signal (WL25) looks like its referring to the right hand track (since signals appear on the left from the pov of the driver).
They are the new stopping marks for the longer new trains
